PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Impassioned by their love for music and belief in its emotional power, pianists Nick Luby and Susan Zhang converted a 16-foot box truck into a fully functioning mobile concert hall, complete with lights, sound system and piano. Their goal is to engage diverse communities and audiences nationwide with thoughtful, timely programming.
Since then, The Concert Truck has toured the country, presenting concerts in city streets, music and arts festivals, schools, neighborhoods and parks... anywhere you can park a truck. Nick, Susan and the Truck have been featured by Voice of America – VOA, Minnesota Public Radio, the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, WYPR Maryland and many local TV news stations, online publications and syndicates.
In addition to sharing original programming with local communities, The Concert Truck strengthens relationships between arts organizations and the communities they serve. In the Fall 2020 season, The Concert Truck partnered with The Kennedy Center’s Washington National Opera, University of South Carolina, Southeastern Piano Festival and Dallas Symphony Orchestra to deliver great music to their local communities.

Denmark. It’s 2 a.m. A hotel room. Three weary travelers, an unexpected will and a production of “Hamlet” to rehearse before morning. Tragedy and humor blend in this new play about the challenges of family, forgiveness, and Shakespeare.Real-life family – Susanna Hamnett, Joshua MacGregor and Lily MacGregor – play the bereaved family of the once-great actor, Henry Elder, billed to perform his career-defining solo of Hamlet at the famous Elsinore Shakespeare Festival. But as they discover, Henry Elder is determined not to let anything as inconvenient as death prevent him from being there. With Shakespeare’s "Hamlet" as the pivot around which the family’s story revolves, the play is both absurd and poignant.Written and performed by award-winning actor Susanna Hamnett, along with her son and daughter, this piece premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022. It is an award-winner of the Carol Tambor Incentive Award, chosen by the Carol Tambor Theatrical Foundation to encourage new writing and live performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
