Launched in August of 2020, Tuesday Casual Collaborations at 185 King Street has become a cornerstone of the vibrant Brevard music community. Every week Travis Book assembles a unique group of musicians for a one-time-only show, drawing on his vast network of friends and growing repertoire of musical styles. From Bluegrass to Blues, Songwriter to Americana, Country to Funk, Travis and his ever-evolving cast of local and national (even international) musicians consistently hit the sweet spot between preparation and spontaneity. “Eventually, I hope to play with everyone!” he occasionally boasts, and he’s well on his way. Travis has hosted a wide range of musicians, including: Anders Beck, Nicki Bluhm, Josh Daniel, Beppe Gambetta, Mike Guggino, Vince Herman, Sierra Hull, Cris Jacobs, Jim Lauderdale, Lindsay Lou, Steve McMurry, Mimi Naja, Tim O’Brien, Woody Platt, Jon Stickley, Kyle Tuttle, and Cristina Vane. He also regularly employs the skills of world-class local musicians like Jeff Sipe, Mike Ashworth, Tommy Maher, Bennett Sullivan, and Derick Gardner. Every week is unique, the musical styles wide-ranging, but the one thing that remains constant is the intention, positivity, and charisma that Travis brings to each and every show.

This week will be a happy hour edition which means there will be an interview component in the middle of the show.  Luke Bulla is the featured guest.

Every Wednesday means Trivia and Karaoke night!  We are in between Trivia tournament seasons right now so we will have a few weeks of themed trivia. This week's theme is "Three Truths and A Lie" which means Patrick will be asking questions and give possible answers.  You will have to choose which of the four answers IS NOT correct.  Prizes include gift certificates and tickets to upcoming shows.  Teams are limited to six people.  
Karaoke starts at 9:00 and goes until 11:00.  Check our facebook page for updates on theme nights!   We are 21+ after 9:00 pm.

The Nighthawks was an idea in Mark Wenner’s brain long before he was able to
implement it. The musical product of pre-1958 radio in Washington, D.C., he did not
know there were rules against mixing blues, R&B, honky-tonk country, doo-wop, gospel
and rockabilly into one delicious stew.

In 1972, Mark, then 23, returned to his hometown after a New York City band
apprenticeship, eager to start a real, work-every-night band based on American roots
music. He found a receptive local scene. Washington has long been a musical melting-
pot of the kind that made Memphis the source point for the evolution of American music
in the second half of the 20 th Century. It just never had a Stax or Sun record label to tell
the world. As the city exploded with an influx of people from all the surrounding states
during the Great Depression and World War II, Washington became a hotbed of musical
cross-fertilization. When Bill Haley first brought his wacky Pennsylvania mix of hillbilly
music and rhythm and blues to D.C. in 1952, people got it. And white kids like Mark
found the Howard Theater – now recently restored and part of the historic top tier of the
Chitlin’ Circuit that included Baltimore’s Royal, Chicago’s Regal and New York’s Apollo
– just a 25-cent bus ride away from the suburbs.

The Andrew Thelston Band presents Funk Night.  The first set will be all originals and the second set they will bring on the funk.  


The Andrew Thelston Band, voted #1 favorite rock band in the 2023 Best of WNC contest by Mountain Xpress, has been stunning audiences in the WNC region (and beyond) for 5 years. Frontman Thelston, voted #1 best guitarist in the same competition, is the creative force, bringing high-energy, funk-infused original rock n' roll that draws influence from Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, and Queen. In 2019, Thelston's original music was featured on the hit Netflix show "Lucifer." Thelston is widely known for his guitar virtuosity and soaring vocals, and leads the 4-piece band with a dynamic stage presence. Bassist Walker Astin and drummer Jeff Lott create a rock solid rhythm for Thelston's guitar and vocals. Singer-songwriter/keyboardist Carrie Morrison fills out the band's sound with powerhouse vocals and technical prowess.

Our Summer Trivia Season will start next Wednesday at 7:00.  This week we are changing things up a bit.  After seeing how wildly popular our "Dating Game" was this year, we have decided to add more Gameshow Nights to the mix.  Tonight we will be playing three games: Feud Time, Match Game, and Wheel of Fortune all based on classic gameshows.  We will select participants from the audience so come ready to play!  Prizes will include gift certificates, merchandise, and tickets to upcoming shows.

Karaoke will follow at 9:00.  We are 21+ after 9:00.

Little Hopes is a new Americana duo led by the incomparable Sydney Rhame, an Atlanta native, and Brock Shanks, a small town-raised troubadour. Combining their individual talents to create a powerful musical partnership, Little Hopes weaves together captivating pop-inspired melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and rich harmonies to create a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshing. Their energetic and soul-stirring performances coupled with their authentic songwriting are already leaving a mark in the industry. Little Hopes has had the incredible opportunity to share the stage with esteemed musicians such as Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke, John Paul White of the Civil Wars, and Jill Andrews of the everybodyfields, solidifying their reputation as an act to watch.

Join us for the official after party of the White Squirrel Festival with music by John Trufant & Friends.  His feet are sunk deep in the Bayous of South Louisiana and his head is lost in the Mountains of Appalachia. Singer and writer John Trufant plays tribute to his roots and all that shapes him. Touches of soul, blues, country and roots through and through. John will be joined by Kevin Sanders on keys, Matt Gardner on bass and Chris Alley on drums.

Every Wednesday means Trivia and Karaoke night! We host trivia seasons that run for 10 weeks. Our Summer tournament runs from 5/29 to 7/31. Trivia teams can have up to six people. Weekly trivia prizes include gift cards to 185 King Street / Noblebräu Brewing and tickets to upcoming concerts. We also award the team that has the highest score at the end of the season 6 tickets to our next beer dinner. We drop each teams two lowest scores so that if you miss a week or two you still have a chance.

Honky Tonk Thursdays are returning by popular demand! This evening's featured band is Lazy Rooster.  Join us for line dancing lessons at 6:00 and music at 7:00.

 

About the band: 

Lazy Rooster is bringing a new dose of energy to the roots music scene in Brevard.  Fronted by guitarist Randy Elliott, a recent transplant from Nashville, the quintet’s set lists highlight songs from Steve Earle, Whiskeytown, Sammy Kershaw, Levon Helm, Drive-By Truckers, Marty Stuart, Waylon Jennings, John Moreland, Wilco and more, along with select originals from Elliott himself.  Members include veteran guitarist Warren Givens, best known locally for his work supporting the Steep Canyon Rangers as well as a string of solo releases; drummer Alex Santeiro, whose resume includes stints with Florida salsa and blues-rock groups; pedal steel guitarist Bennett Sullivan, a nationally acclaimed banjo player with a long list of credits to his name; and bassist Jon Weisberger, whose collaborative bluegrass shows have become a recurrent feature of the 185 King St. calendar.  Reflecting a web of personal and professional connections and the musical cross-currents of western North Carolina, Randy Elliott and Friends  serve up a muscular blend of outlaw country, Americana and roots rock that harkens back to the dynamic genre interplay of the 80s and 90s.

Cristina Vane is an Americana artist out of Nashville. Her signature bottleneck slide guitar playing, travis picking, and clawhammer banjo are tied together by her silky, powerful voice and her vivid songwriting. Born in Europe to a Guatemalan mother and Sicilian-American father, Vane’s musical perspective is decidedly unique and authentic. Her debut release, "Nowhere Sounds Lovely" was produced by Grammy-award winning drummer and producer, Cactus Moser (Wynonna Judd). Vane’s latest album, "Make Myself Me Again" was released April 2022, and was co-produced by Brook Sutton, Jano Rix (of the Wood Brothers) and Cristina herself, and and charted the AMA as well as a few Alternative Country charts. Cristina has an extensive touring history and has provided direct support for: Bob Weir, Wynonna Judd, Molly Tuttle, Nikki Lane, Jerry Douglas, Cass McCombs, Town Mountain, Duane Betts, Arlo McKinley, and Willi Carlisle. Vane sold out her 2021 Station Inn debut and was featured in the Bank of America ad for Ken Burns’  “Country Music” documentary. She was an invited guest for Billy Strings’ String the Halls 3, has appeared on Travis Book’s Happy Hour and The Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour .

Cristina Vane - "Make Myself Me Again"

In addition to his solo work over the course of his illustrious 40-plus-year career, Jesup, Georgia born Randall Bramblett has recorded, performed and composed alongside rock luminaries like The Allman Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Winwood, Marc Cohn, The Band’s Levon Helm, Widespread Panic, and more.  Deep into his self-described second act of his solo career, and living in Athens, Georgia, Bramblett’s talents are repeatedly praised by musicians, critics and fans.  He adds to his storied body of work with continual reinvention and true conviction on his 12th album, Pine Needle Fire.  Bramblett says it is “about time passing, or at least grappling with the realization that you don’t have an infinite amount of time left like you think you do when you’re young." 

 Bramblett’s built up an impressive and diverse solo catalog over the course of his life in music. Which, he says, is the most rewarding thing of all. “Doing those classic, huge, great songs with other artists is always a thrill and an honor, but they’re not my songs,” he says. “It’s much more satisfying for me to write something in my voice that means something to me personally, and then hear it come together musically with people I love and have it develop into a beautiful thing.” 

That latest “beautiful thing” is Pine Needle Fire, on which Bramblett continues to channel his singular voice and unique storytelling approach and experiences into something insightful, tuneful and incredibly soulful. 

“I do feel like I'm in the middle of a really good creative moment,” Bramblett says, then laughs. “You know, I'm definitely not sliding backwards into some kind of nostalgia thing or whatever.”
