    About the band:

Lazy Rooster is bringing a new dose of energy to the roots music scene in Brevard.  Fronted by guitarist Randy Elliott, a recent transplant from Nashville, the quintet’s set lists highlight songs from Steve Earle, Whiskeytown, Sammy Kershaw, Levon Helm, Drive-By Truckers, Marty Stuart, Waylon Jennings, John Moreland, Wilco and more, along with select originals from Elliott himself.  Members include veteran guitarist Warren Givens, best known locally for his work supporting the Steep Canyon Rangers as well as a string of solo releases; drummer Alex Santeiro, whose resume includes stints with Florida salsa and blues-rock groups; pedal steel guitarist Bennett Sullivan, a nationally acclaimed banjo player with a long list of credits to his name; and bassist Jon Weisberger, whose collaborative bluegrass shows have become a recurrent feature of the 185 King St. calendar.  Reflecting a web of personal and professional connections and the musical cross-currents of western North Carolina, Randy Elliott and Friends  serve up a muscular blend of outlaw country, Americana and roots rock that harkens back to the dynamic genre interplay of the 80s and 90s.

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

In addition to his solo work over the course of his illustrious 40-plus-year career, Jesup, Georgia born Randall Bramblett has recorded, performed and composed alongside rock luminaries like The Allman Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Winwood, Marc Cohn, The Band’s Levon Helm, Widespread Panic, and more.  Deep into his self-described second act of his solo career, and living in Athens, Georgia, Bramblett’s talents are repeatedly praised by musicians, critics and fans.  He adds to his storied body of work with continual reinvention and true conviction on his 12th album, Pine Needle Fire.  Bramblett says it is “about time passing, or at least grappling with the realization that you don’t have an infinite amount of time left like you think you do when you’re young."

Bramblett’s built up an impressive and diverse solo catalog over the course of his life in music. Which, he says, is the most rewarding thing of all. “Doing those classic, huge, great songs with other artists is always a thrill and an honor, but they’re not my songs,” he says. “It’s much more satisfying for me to write something in my voice that means something to me personally, and then hear it come together musically with people I love and have it develop into a beautiful thing.”

That latest “beautiful thing” is Pine Needle Fire, on which Bramblett continues to channel his singular voice and unique storytelling approach and experiences into something insightful, tuneful and incredibly soulful.

“I do feel like I'm in the middle of a really good creative moment,” Bramblett says, then laughs. “You know, I'm definitely not sliding backwards into some kind of nostalgia thing or whatever.”

Check out the incredible musicians he has played and recorded with here!

Every week Travis Book assembles a unique group of musicians for a one-time-only show, drawing on his vast network of friends and growing repertoire of musical styles. From Bluegrass to Blues, Songwriter to Americana, Country to Funk, Travis and his ever-evolving cast of local and national (even international) musicians consistently hit the sweet spot between preparation and spontaneity. “Eventually, I hope to play with everyone!” he occasionally boasts, and he’s well on his way. Travis has hosted a wide range of musicians, including: Anders Beck, Nicki Bluhm, Josh Daniel, Beppe Gambetta, Mike Guggino, Vince Herman, Sierra Hull, Cris Jacobs, Jim Lauderdale, Lindsay Lou, Steve McMurry, Mimi Naja, Tim O’Brien, Woody Platt, Jon Stickley, Kyle Tuttle, and Cristina Vane. He also regularly employs the skills of world-class local musicians like Jeff Sipe, Mike Ashworth, Tommy Maher, Bennett Sullivan, and Derick Gardner. Every week is unique, the musical styles wide-ranging, but the one thing that remains constant is the intention, positivity, and charisma that Travis brings to each and every show.

This week Travis will be joined by Beppe Gambetta.

Beppe Gambetta is a guitarist, vocalist, researcher and composer born in Genova, Italy in 1955 who developed a style of concert presentation that brings American and European Roots to speak together with one voice. In his unique approach, Gambetta blends energetic grooves with passionate melodies, giving new life to sources from different times, periods and places. In addition, the original music he composes gives contemporary influences to traditional roots music.  learn more...

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Reedy River String Band has taken the Southeast of the United States by storm the
past few years with their fresh take on Appalachian roots music. In 2023, Reedy River
performed at several notable bluegrass festivals, including the Earl Scruggs Music Festival
(EmmyLou Harris, Infamous Stringdusters, Greensky Bluegrass) and the Charleston Bluegrass
Festival (Leftover Salmon, Molly Tuttle, Keller and the Keels). Reedy River's sound is modern
bluegrass with foot stompin' elements of jam and rock n' roll inspired by the various touring and
recording experiences of its members. In any given show, Multi-instrumentalist Sterling Waite
interchanges mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica to bring a range of textures to the band's
live performances. With Rush Morgan on guitar and Mark Dye on upright bass, all three of the
members are songwriters and lead singers, lending a depth and variety of original material
beyond the band’s relatively short time together. Since forming in 2021, Reedy River String
Band released their debut self-titled album in 2022 and has since released two singles, "My
Grass is Blue," and "Punkin Brown" in 2023. Their studio releases have been played on multiple
radio stations in the Southeast of the United States including WNCW Spindale, NC, WLHR Lake
Hartwell, GA, and The Creek Macon, GA.

This week will be a Happy Hour edition which means there will be an interview of the featured guest in the middle of the show.  This evening's featured guest is Wyatt Ellis.

Born not far from the Great Smoky Mountains, Wyatt Ellis' first recollection of hearing the mandolin was Bobby Osborne’s iconic solo on the Osborne Brothers’ bluegrass classic “Rocky Top.” Hearing the Tennessee bluegrass anthem echo throughout the early years of his childhood is what led Wyatt to set his sights on learning to play mandolin. With his schedule packed with school, Boy Scouts and team sports, it was hard to find time for music.

When he was almost 10 years old, Wyatt talked his dad into buying him a used mandolin so he could learn to play it just like Bobby. Soon, he began weekly mandolin lessons in his hometown and quickly developed a strong desire to attend local bluegrass jams. He told his non-musical parents that he wanted to play his new mandolin alongside other bluegrass pickers.

The COVID lockdown began just as he was forging those real-life musical friendships. Team sports, local lessons and bluegrass jams came to an abrupt end. At the same time, festivals and in-person recording sessions suddenly stopped, parking the most in-demand bluegrass musicians at home. Many of his favorite mandolin players started teaching or simply spending more time connecting within the community online.

Jacob Jolliff is one of the country's premier contemporary mandolinists. Jacob toured as a member of the beloved New England roots band, Joy Kills Sorrow, while attending Berklee School of Music on a full scholarship. In 2012, Jolliff won the National Mandolin Championship in Winfield, KS. A fixture of the national bluegrass community, he has collaborated and shared the stage with Darol Anger, Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, Michael Daves, Tony Trischka, and David Grisman to name a few. When Joy Kills Sorrow disbanded in 2014, Jolliff got the call to join Yonder Mountain String Band and toured full time with them until the end of 2019. This last year, Jolliff released a new album with his group, The Jacob Jolliff Band, and also toured with Béla Fleck’s as part of My Bluegrass Heart.

Hustle Souls is an Asheville, NC based band who blend Retro-Soul, New Orleans Brass Music and Americana. American Blues Scene called Hustle Souls a  "generation-jumping mashup of new school second line funk with old school vintage soul." Bluestown Music described the music as “intimate soul…with a Curtis Mayfield like warmth.” They were recently named one of Music Connection Magazine’s “Hot 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands”

Overflowing with energy and spontaneity; roaring B3 organ and jubilant brass are balanced with 3-part vocal harmony and a lust for songwriting that  has been praised as “worthy of being included in that brilliant soul music canon, a heritage that features some of the greatest performers and writers that have ever graced this earth…” Aldora Britian Records.

In 2024 Hustle Souls released their vinyl debut and lead singer Billy Litz was invited to perform at the NAMM show in Anaheim CA as an artist representing the prestigious Santa Cruz Guitar Company. Hustle Souls has been booked on major festival line ups such as Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, Shakori Hills Grassroots Music Festival etc. and have shared the stage with legends including sit ins with the likes of Kofi Burbridge and support slots for bands like Dumpstaphunk.

Graham Sharp will be hosting this week's show.  Graham considers himself lucky for getting to spend the last 20 years making music with his brothers in Steep Canyon Rangers.  He also released his first solo album "Truer Picture" in 2020 and has a second release coming soon.  He will be performing original tunes and covers with his friends Mike Guggino, Tommy Maher, Drew Matulich and Kevin Kerber.

Launched in August of 2020, Tuesday Casual Collaborations at 185 King Street has become a cornerstone of the vibrant Brevard music community.
