PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

The Wyoming Humanities Council and UW American Heritage Center presents Sissy in Wyoming  The play was written and is performed by Gregory Hinton, creator of Out West, a nationally acclaimed program series that shines a light on LGBTQ history and culture in the American West.
The play features the life of Larry “Sissy” Goodwin (1946-2020), a dad, veteran, peace activist, and college instructor who enjoyed building airplanes and riding motorcycles – all while wearing women's clothing. Raised in the Wyoming oil fields by emotionally brutal parents, Larry coped in his own way, enduring taunts of "Sissy" until appropriating the slur to free him from its sting. As Sissy, he endured unlawful arrests, transphobic threats, and violent beatings. Although he found success in life, Sissy suffered episodes of crippling self-doubt, surviving with the support of his wife Vickie. Their unique love story and Sissy’s overseas humanitarian missions with Veterans for Peace generated enormous goodwill, as reported by the Casper Star-TribuneThe Washington PostStoryCorpsNew York Public Radio, and The Los Angeles Times

BIO
Across their ten-year career, Oliver Lee and James Carter have amassed billions of streams and record sales, performed on the main stages of the world's biggest festivals and cultivated a global following in the process. Much like a snake shedding its skin, the Snakehips sound continues to evolve, with each layer being peeled back to reveal another exciting chapter in the story. It was 2015 hit 'All My Friends' that turned the boys from promising production duo to household name. A collaboration with singer-songwriter Tinashe and internationally renowned hip-hop star Chance the Rapper, the track would go platinum in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand, as well as winning the annual Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. 'All My Friends' proved to be the beginning of a catalogue of collaborations with some of the biggest artists on the planet. Since then they have linked up with the likes of Grammy-winning rapper Anderson .Paak ('Money On Me'), One Direction's Zayn ('Cruel'), Danish singer-songwriter MØ ('Don't Leave') and Brooklyn rap don Joey Badass ('Either Way'), securing millions of streams and record sales in the process. Continuing to broaden their musical horizons and push their sound into bold, fresh new directions, Snakehips have firmly cemented their status as one of the best double acts in the game.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Kendall Street Company
Kendall Street Company is a jam-alt rock band based out of Charlottesville, Virginia. From late
night jam sessions at the University of Virginia to main stages at venues and festivals
throughout the country, Kendall Street Company has broken the mold of improvised rock and
entered a world of jazz-grass infused psychedelic bliss. The band's musical style incorporates
elements of jam, folk, jazz, funk, and psychedelic rock. They embrace mind-altering riffs as well
as soulful and jazzy wit, while remaining true to their folksy songwriting roots.
“The Space Race” is Kendall Street Company’s first single off their highly anticipated
pop-ambient space opera double LP “The Year the Earth Stood Still,” (set to release summer
2021). Recorded in the midst of the covid 19 pandemic, the record was born as a collective
improvisational experiment over a 5 day period in a rural farmhouse studio in Louisa, VA. With
imaginations running wild and sessions lasting through to the wee hours of the morning, the
record quickly took on a life of its own as a time capsule of the band’s thoughts, feelings, and
creative drive in a year of great uncertainty over their own future, and that of humanity at large.
Averaging over 100 shows per year since 2013, KSC has performed at festivals such as Lockn’,
Roosterwalk, Floydfest, Resonance, and Domefest and has opened for acts such as Pigeons
Playing Ping Pong, moe., Papadosio, Umphrey's McGee, Goose, and Leftover Salmon. All the
while, the band has released myriad records, EPs, and singles to national acclaim.

Tenth Mountain Division

Born in the fertile mountains of Colorado, Tenth Mountain Division is continuing the musical legacy set down by their forefathers.

Tenth Mountain Division is a Denver-based outfit by way of the Colorado Rockies. The group consists of six members—Andrew Cooney (Bass/Guitar), Campbell Thomas (Piano/Percussion/Keys), Tyler Gwynn (Drums), MJ Ouimette (Guitars), Winston Heuga (Mandolin)—who found unity through their love of music and natural surroundings. While Gwynn holds down the heartbeat of their sound on drums, the rest of the crew pitches in on vocals in addition to their menagerie of instrumentation. TMD has heavily toured throughout their home state, offering reverberation and acclaim felt throughout the country. This helped nab performances at Summer Camp Music Festival, and support roles for acts like Leftover Salmon.

Like those that came before them, Tenth Mountain Division is pushing the sound found in the mountains into bold, new directions with their exploratory take on Americana. Their style dips freely in the well of all their diverse influences, including but not limited to classic Southern Rock, the Progressive Bluegrass that was born in their backyard in Colorado, the adventurous spirit of sixties Psychedelic Blues, and straight ahead driving Rock ‘n’ Roll.  Much like their CO predecessors, String Cheese Incident, and Yonder Mountain String Band, they defy simple categorization. Instead, they reference their musical history with their high-energy shows as they blaze new musical paths every night. As they do so, they have become the new voice of the Colorado music scene, taking their Ski-party sound around the country and making every show feel like a night in the Rockies.

Through 2021, expect this boisterous crew to continue trailblazing its energy and sound throughout the country.

Bio

IT'S LIKE 20 CONCERTS IN ONE NIGHT!

A band puts on a concert - Hairball puts on an event! Hairball is a Rock & Roll experience you won't soon forget. The lights, sound, smoke, fire, bombs, and screaming hoards of avid fans...to merely call it a concert would be like calling Mount Rushmore a roadside attraction!

Vocalists Joe Dandy, Kris Vox, and Dave Moody lead the band through a 2+ hour, mind-blowing, and dropdead accurate homage to some of the biggest arena acts in the world. Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, and Aerosmith are but a few of the acts fans will see brought to life. The Hairball stage becomes an entirely new rock concert before your very eyes countless times throughout the night.

The motor that drives the Hairball dragster consists of HBK on the electric bass, Billy on the drums, and Happy on the lead guitar. These Rock & Roll soldiers pride themselves on nailing some of the most memorable licks and chops of all time, while adding their own style and flare that they've cultivated over decades of tireless performing. This isn’t a side job. These guys eat, sleep and breathe Rock & Roll!

2021 finds Hairball celebrating its 21st year of rocking hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Constantly adding more characters, more pyrotechnics, more lights, more sound, more props, more surprises...more everything! While Happy often tells the audience "Today is the first day is the rest of your life!" Hairball performs every show as though it could be their last. Every night is a 100% full-on, no-holds-barred, exciting, chaotic, fiery party that has to be experienced to be believed!

As important to Hairball as the music, are its fans. While many bands claim to have the best fans in the world, Hairball actually has! Whether they are 10 years old or 100, Hairball fans bring an unparalleled enthusiasm and energy to the show that enhances the arena experience. Hairball knows it wouldn't exist without its fans and takes every opportunity to let them know that.

Whether it's a pre-show meet and greet, hanging out at the merch booth, or chatting online, Hairball has a lot in common with its fans and it's always a good time when they get together. Don't confuse Hairball with the countless "80's Tribute" bands across the country. Hairball is an experience, an attitude, and expression of music that isn't simply a retro flashback, it's a way of life!

For more than 62 years now, the Gatlin Brothers have entertained audiences in some of the world’s largest venues and from some of the most iconic stages, including the GRAMMY Awards, the American Music Awards, the People’s Choice Awards, the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Oprah, Hee Haw, Love Boat, the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack, the Merv Griffin Show, Solid Gold,, the Barbara Mandrell Show and their own variety special on ABC – “Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers”.

In 1976, the Gatlin Brothers were on the fast track, thanks to the chart-topping success of the Grammy Award-winning single “Broken Lady”. The hits continued throughout the decade with their signature song “All the Gold In California” followed by “Houston” (Means I’m One Step Closer To You). The next decade brought number one hits with “I Don’t Wanna Cry”, “I Just Wish You Were Someone To Love”, “Statues Without Hearts”, “Love Is Just A Game”, and “Night Time Magic”.

It all began in Abilene, Texas in 1955 when Larry was seven, Steve four and Rudy two. The brothers grew up singing gospel music after listening to James Blackwood and the Blackwood Brothers, Hovie Lister and The Stateman Quartet as well other accomplished gospel artists. As children the brothers would sing for anyone that would listen. Soon they were singing from coast to coast and appeared at the World’s Fair in 1964 in New York City. They recorded four Gospel records early in their career. In 1966 Larry went to college where he studied English and Law at the University of Houston. In 1971, he auditioned for the legendary group, the Imperials, Elvis’ backup group. While he did not get the job, he met Dottie West, who was the opening act for Jimmy Dean. Dean would later become one of Larry’s oldest and best friends. Dottie was initially taken with Larry’s resemblance to Nashville songwriter Mickey Newbury. Dottie told him one night in their backstage dressing room at the Landmark Hotel in Las Vegas that he looked so much like Mickey Newbury, that he had to be able to write great songs. Larry returned to Houston and wrote eight songs. He sent them to Dottie and she liked them so much she sent him a plane ticket to Nashville.

Through Dottie, he met Kris Kristofferson, who championed Gatlin’s talent as a writer and singer. Kristofferson introduced Larry to Fred Foster at Monument Records which resulted in a recording contract with the label. Larry’s first album, The Pilgrim, was released later that year. Johnny Cash wrote the liner notes for the album and dubbed him “The Pilgrim,” a name Cash called Larry his entire life. Steve and Rudy were still in college at Texas Tech University and in 1975 they moved to Nashville to sing backup with Tammy Wynette. The two later joined Larry in 1976 to form Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers.

Steely Dead is a musical hybrid of the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan. Sonic worlds collide, between the structure, arrangement and precision studio recordings of rock legends Steely Dan, cross-pollinated with the Grateful Dead’s free-flowing, melodic improvisation and masterful song segues. Steely Dead merges these major concepts together while infusing the influence unto each band. For example, taking the Grateful Dead’s rocking set ender Deal and Steely Dan’s Reelin’ In the Years creating the mashup Dealin’ in the Years. Steely Dead is committed to the nuance of both bands while remaining playful with jam segues between songs, and delivering a unique musical blend. For fans of both or either one of these great bands.

“The Sugar Hill Gang” with Wonder Mike, Master
Gee and HenDogg featuring DJ T Dynasty - the
Fathers of Hip Hop
In 1979, the Sugarhill Gang crashed through the walls of the urban cities and into the mainstream
of society with the first worldwide rap hit, "Rapper's Delight." Two of the original members of
this historic group, Wonder Mike (Michael Wright) and Master Gee (Guy O’Brien) had teamed
up with Henry Jackson (pka Big Bank Hank) to become the now famous Sugarhill Gang.
Sugarhill Gang is believed by many to be the first professional Hip Hop group, because they
introduced to the masses (both in the United States and overseas) this unprecedented genre of
music. “Rapper's Delight” eventually sold over 8 million copies, and went on to be the biggest
selling rap single of all time. Even today, it continues to appeal to audiences of all ages.
Shortly thereafter, the Sugarhill Gang released such hits as “Apache,” “8th Wonder” and “Living
in the Fast Lane.” Wonder Mike and Master Gee teamed up with Henry Williams (pka
Hendogg) and DJ T. Dynasty both who has performed with the group for 20 years and counting
creating new music , while still pleasing the crowds with their greatest hits.
In the Summer of 2009, they released their first song in 25 years with international DJ phenom
Bob Sinclair called “LaLa Song,” which quickly became an uber hit overseas, securing Song of
the Year for many European countries, including Italy. The hit single is currently being released
in the United States.
Wonder Mike, Master Gee, Hendogg and DJ Dynasty continue their tradition of creating a party
atmosphere that makes everyone dance the night away as they perform for sold out crowds
throughout the world.
