PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Hopi Visions: Journey of the Human Spirit features a large mural painting by artists Michael Kabotie and Delbridge Honanie that narrates the history of the Hopi people. The mural, on view for the first time outside Arizona, is complemented by ancient and contemporary objects from the DMA's collection. Artist Ed Kabotie, son of Michael Kabotie, and Museum of Northern Arizona Curator of Anthropology Dr. Kelley Hays-Gilpin will discuss the exhibition and the rich history of Hopi art from antiquity to the present.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
This workshop will teach you the basics of watercolor still life painting inspired by the free exhibition, Edward Steichen: In Exaltation of Flowers. The workshop will begin with a short tour of the exhibition where you will learn more about the significance of the flowers chosen for the mural and the fascinating backstory of the friends shown in the paintings. The second portion will be in the Center for Creative Connections Studio where you will learn from artist, Carol Ivey. After you choose flowers for your own personal still life, Carol will show you basic approaches such as composition and point of view, along with techniques of washes and some textural effects.
No previous experience in watercolors necessary

- Finished floral still life watercolor
- Watercolor brush and paper to continue creating at home

Calling all junior detectives! There’s a mystery to be solved and we need your help! Join us at our first-ever Family Mystery Night, where the art comes to life! You must figure out who is innocent and who is not in this museum mash-up of Night at the Museum and the game of Clue.
Little Miss Dorothy’s surprise birthday party has been wrecked! Someone stole her cake and took off with her presents, and it is up to you to discover what happened to the cake, interview key suspects, and search for clues.
Solve the mystery and be entered to win one of five great prize packs, including a DMA membership and a gift certificate to the DMA Store. At 9:00 p.m., the culprit and motive will be unveiled to all, and the winners of the prize packs will be announced.
Make a night of it and grab a bite to eat in our DMA Cafe before the game starts; dinner service will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
This event is for children ages 5 to 14 and their caregivers, and each member of the family must have a ticket. Children ages 4 and under do not need a ticket.

Katherine Brodbeck, the DMA’s Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, will speak with Scott Rothkopf of the Whitney Museum and Bennett Simpson of the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles about the new exhibition Laura Owens. Composed of 60 objects made over 20 years, this comprehensive collection of Owens' work follows the evolution of her innovative, and at times controversial, approach to painting. The panel will discuss major themes in the exhibition and how Owens' early work sets the stage for her recent paintings and installations.
