Kyle Lacy & the Harlem River Noise conjure a potion that stirs the soul, bringing you home to the roots of 50’s rock’n’roll and blues.

If a young Ray Charles met a fresh-faced Gene Vincent in 2017 and they formed a duo, they would surely collaborate with KL & HRN. They might even join the band…

… Or are they in the band already?

“Currents”, the debut full-length record, is inspired by traditional rock'n'roll and swing coupled with a pulsing energy. By recording live to tape, the album captures snapshots of a frenetic 2-day recording spree. Thematically, it plays as a soundtrack to the flow of subtle changes in life; be it lover, friend, or foe; the lyrics tease, tempt, and mourn while the groove shakes the blues away.

Kyle Lacy, Vocals & Guitar
Cody Gibson, Upright Bass & Vocals
Boyce Griffith, Tenor Saxophone & Organ
Steve Renko, Drumset

We do not take reservations on Friday. Seating is first come/first serve. Please arrive after 8pm for the 9pm show.

Scott is a singer/songwriter from the iconic town of Shelby, NC--a town known for championship high school football and as the birthplace of Earl Scruggs. Scott's music tells the story of growing up in this all-American town with a striking, and sometimes gritty honesty. Throughout the 2000's, Scott played with western North Carolina favorites Moonshine Jenny and Evergreen before joining Big Daddy Love in 2012. With BDL, Scott traveled most of the country with their blend of bluegrass, blues, and southern rock. From acoustic coffee houses to opening for Bob Seger in front of 10,000 people, Scott's dynamic stage presence and easy going nature create an engaging and genuine experience for the crowd.

These days, with a new lease on songwriting and guitar playing, Scott is ready to show the music community what he has to offer as a solo artist.

The Well Respected Men are a group of longtime record fanatics who specialize in the music and majesty of The Kinks spanning their mid-60s British Invasion beginnings up to a selection of the RCA & Arista years. Come prepared to dance. Kinks kovers played by (alphabetically) Jefferson Hart, Peter Holsapple, Glenn Jones, Jody Maxwell and Andrew Snee.
…………………………………………………………………

The Mannish Boys play music that’s inspired by the American Garage Rock scene of the 1960s, as well as R&B and soul music from the early 60’s and are reminiscent of the vibrant music scene of early 1960’s London.

Hailing from Charlotte, NC, the Mannish Boys have waved the garage rock flag with pride for over 20 years. Founding guitarist and singer Jake Berger has had his fingerprints on some of Charlotte’s best-known bands for decades, as a founding member of both the Spongetones, Might Diamelles, and the Belmont Playboys. The current lineup of the band has its most impressive pedigree in its history. Drummer Rob Thorne is in the North Carolina Music Hall Of Fame as a member of the Catalinas, recorded for United Artists Records in 1968 with the New Mix, and then served nearly 35 years as a founding member of the Spongetones. Bassist and keyboardist Greg James is considered the Spongetones’ longtime fifth member, and played bass and sang with the ‘Tones during the mid-1980s. And guitarist/bassist JC Matlak has played with bands throughout the region for decades, and brings a third harmony vocal to a powerful lineup.
The Mannish Boys bring it, and bring it all. Garage rock, British Invasion, blues and early R&B. The band plays the songs that they grew up on, as did you, and that you want to hear again. Ragged and loose in all of the good ways, like a Rock & Roll used to be, and is again.

Two of North Carolina’s veteran bluegrass musicians join forces with some of the Triangle area’s most versatile musicians to create modern, American, acoustic music featuring the full range of their talents as composers and arrangers. The band is on tour regionally and nationally in 2017 in support of their new album, Hold Your Head Up High on Robust Records.

The band makes use of traditional bluegrass instrumentation in a nontraditional way to present original music to the listener that goes beyond the limits of the idiom. The arrangements take on a new level of maturation that follows in the footsteps of Bela Fleck, Mark O'Connor, Chris Thile, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer, and Tony Rice. Hank, Pattie & The Current want to pick up where seminal crossover groups like The Punch Brothers, Strength In Numbers and the ever changing Bluegrass Allstars call home. The music is vocal and instrumental, allowing the band to experiment with arrangements and tailor the compositions to become vehicles for exploration. Hank Smith plays banjo, Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw plays fiddle and sings. The band is rounded out with Ben Parker on guitar on vocals, Robert Thornhill on mandolin and vocals and E. Scott Warren on bass.

“We’re switching things up a little. After four albums I’ve decided to step out and start using my own name. It’s something that a lot of people have encouraged me to do over the years, and I guess that 2017 just felt right.” That name, Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters, is also the title of the band’s new album, which will be released by Organic Records on June 9, 2017. “We’re keeping The Honeycutters too because we don’t want to confuse people…really, we’ve always been Amanda Anne Platt and the Honeycutters. I think I’ve just gotten to a place where I feel comfortable enough to be in the spotlight.”

Lyrically driven, the songs on Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters blend the band’s old-school country roots attitude with their shared influences of rock and folk. Amanda says of the album, “I think it’s just about life and all that that entails. Including but not limited to death, strangers, birthdays, money, leaving, arriving, seasons, corruption, and love.”

Performing along with Platt, The Honeycutters are Matt Smith on pedal steel and Stratocaster, Rick Cooper on bass, Josh Milligan on drums and harmony vocals, and Evan Martin on keys and Telecaster.

Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters is the group’s third release on Organic Records, and fifth album. Assembling the same the same team as 2016’s On The Ropes Balsam Range’s Tim Surrett steps in for the second time to co-produce this album along with Amanda. Its thirteen tracks were recorded, mixed, and mastered by Scott Barnett at Crossroads Studios in Arden, NC.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos, a smokin’ Zydeco/Cajun flavored blues band out of North Carolina. For those not in the know, let’s meet the guys up close and…

MEL MELTON, on what was intended to be a brief visit to Lafayette LA in the early ’70s turned out to be a life-changing experience. There he met, played with and forged lasting relationships with Sonny Landreth and Cheniers Clifton, Cleveland and CJ. After a long stint with Bayou Rhythm, Mel took time off from the music rat-race to concentrate on a chef career (another facet developed and sharpened from the early Lafayette days). 1990 found him back in NC and back at music, having formed the first edition of The Wicked Mojos. In 2008 Mel opened a new hot Cajun restaurant called Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse (www.papamojosroadhouse.com). For a more detailed bio on Mel, please feel free to visit www.melmelton.com.

MAX DRAKE has been playing in and recording with blues/R&B bands such as Arhoolie, The Excellos and the Ministers of Sinister since the ’60s. More recently, he has lent his fiery fretwork to the late Skeeter Brandon and Big Bill Morganfield before joining forces with The Wicked Mojos in 2005. Max also performs with a stripped-down nasty blues/roots band known as The Buzzkillz (www.myspace.com/buzzkillzboogie).

T.A. JAMES, after a 3 year sabbatical (intracontinental freight relocation), hooked up with the Wicked Mojos at the very tail end of 2007. He logged much of 20 years as bassist and guitarist, having spent ’95-’03 as the low-end kingpin for the Carey Bell Band. More bio info for T.A. can be found at www.myspace.com/tajames68.

KELLY PACE logged road and recording time with Skeeter Brandon and an earlier version of Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos (Mojo Dream) as throne man, and has also been a longtime member of Blues World Order. Kelly rejoined forces with the ‘Mojos in 2009.

Thanks for visiting, and come again!

Conceived in cigarette smoke and nurtured on cold beer, the Stinging Blades are a bar band down to the marrow. Their mixture of Memphis Soul, New Orleans R&B, Blues, Rock & Roll, and finely honed original tunes all played with real feeling keeps a joint rocking. They never resort to the lowest common denominator in choice of tunes, but always try to lift the atmosphere to a higher plane while remaining anchored in carnal pelvic funk. This band jams! However, don’t think of them as a “jam band’. That’s not to say that they aren’t open to the ecstasies of psychedelic pandemonium. But when all is said and done, the pleasure found in a good groove well played is paramount for these fellows. If it’s feeling, quality tunes, and a healthy portion of Rock & Roll magic you desire, let the Blades cut off a slice for you.

“Larkin Poe is a roots rock 'n roll sister duo comprised of Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell - descendants of tortured artist and creative genius, Edgar Allen Poe.

At a young age, the girls were classically trained on violin and piano while being exposed to classic rock icons including Fleetwood Mac and Pink Floyd. Rebecca (lead singer) now plays lead guitar and Megan (harmony vocals) contributes on lapsteel.

After experimenting with an array of musical styles, they found a way to blend together a sound that channels their distinct voice. The duo has previously hit the road as opening and backing bands for Conor Oberst, Kristian Bush (Sugarland) and Elvis Costello who praises that “they have a head start on the rest of us with the unique power and beauty of sibling harmony”.

Larkin Poe are currently working on their next album.”

MIKE DAVIS
Frontman, guitarist and lead vocalist Mike Davis is an amazing talent who leaves audiences agog and demanding more. Who else in the Triangle can sing Elvis, Marley, Yoakam, Gaye and Withers hits all in a row and so well? And, on his Variax guitars, Mike is without peer in terms of creative and catchy licks. When Mike isn't playing with MikeMickXer, you can catch his fabulous solo act.

MICK VOILAND
Keyboardist Mick Voiland stands alone in the area's band community in not only giving that Hammond organ sound and "fill," but also by securing a deep bottom via left-hand bass lines played on a second keyboard. Close your eyes and you hear a quartet; open them and you see a trio and wonder just how Mick does it.

You do NOT want to miss this night with – the one, the only, THE party band of the 80’s – The Fabulous Knobs!

The Fabulous Knobs were one of the most sought after Comboland bar and party bands of the early 80’s. Playing every bar, club, and frat house in the Triangle, The Knobs were a hard-working full time band. Their 1981 album was the first local hit for regional label, Moonlight Records and heavily promoted by record chain Record Bar. The fans were fueled by lead singer Debra DeMilo’s no-holds barred performance and soulful vocal styling, along with a tight band that knew how to play and have fun too! Added to the mix was Dave Adams (Glass Moon) who played keyboard on the recording sessions and occasionally live as well. Here’s some great insight from a Terry Anderson (The Fabulous Knobs drummer and songwriter) from his April 2006 Whassupta blog,

The Fabulous Knobs really were quite popular around North Carolina from ’78 to ’84. We had a road crew that drove our big ass 20-foot box truck filled with lights and our huge PINK P.A.! It was full time job. We did about 4 to 5 gigs a week and put ourselves on the big big salary of $250 a piece, each one of those weeks. This lasted almost 3 or so years. And, we all lived together in a huge house on Edenton St. in downtown Raleigh and the band paid all of our expenses, so the $250 was free and clear.

We had some unbelievable gigs. Most were packed, many sold out. Our lead singer, Debra DeMilo was quite flamboyant and showed her ass (literally!) about every night. It was the same kinda rockin’ shit I’m doin’ today [with the band, The Olympic Ass Kickin’ Team, but] with a little more Soul/R&B thrown in. I wrote a lot for that band too. It’s really hard to explain how great it was. Jack Cornell was on bass and he and I solidified the rhythm section. The guitar players, David Enloe and Keith Taylor were perfect together. For a while there, just to be ASAP (as stupid as possible!!) they were “twinin’,” or trying to be twins of each other. They were dressing alike with red Keds sneakers, blue jeans, an orange bandana and a white t-shirt. It was dumb as shit and really funny.

We would piss club owners off so bad by doing “plays.” The most popular one was called “Go to Hell!” That one would start with David layin’ on the floor trying to get some sleep after the late night gig and his neighbor next door, played by Keith or me, mowing the lawn at 7am. Eventually, David would get up and poke his head through the window (somebody’s arms!) and yell, “Go to Hell!!” Of course, there were other scenarios and subsequently other “plays” that prompted that response from David. Pretty dumb. Another thing we did was “Jerry Duty.” Every night we would take turns holding up a little G.E. tape recorder up to the mike while a Jerry Clower tape played one of his stupid ass jokes. This was called “Jerry Duty”. . . and “Bullshit!” by the club owners. But the crowd usually ate it up.

We were pretty much ruined after seeing NRBQ. They got away with murder! And that’s how we wanted to be!

Every so often you’re lucky enough to see a band and realize that everything is just right. The right personalities, the right arrangements, the right instruments, the right attitude… everything just comes together perfectly. “Tight” doesn’t describe it. Bands that rehearse and work hard and can stop and start on a dime are tight. Bands that know each other like the back of their hands are something special. - Review by Eric Gleason.

Chris's musical background includes duties as lead singer and front man for rock and roll hall of famer and Grammy award winner Levon Helm's band The Barnburners. During the 6 years that Chris and Levon played together they toured across the US and Canada lighting up stages everywhere they went. Chris Ruest
If you haven’t been paying attention to his career, this is the short version of what you need to know: Chris Ruest is the real thing. The New Englander has been a resident of Texas for well over a decade. Already a serious student and lover of traditional blues and blues-oriented jazz artists, the singer-guitarist came up through Brian “Hash Brown” Calway’s band (justly regarded as the finishing school of choice for aspiring Dallas blues musicians), and has worked with many of the Lone Star State’s most important talents, including the great Ray Sharpe (“Linda Lu”).

Chris Ruest belongs to the impressive class of serious Texas blues guitarists, a group that includes Johnny Moeller, Shawn Pittman, and Nick Curran. While the others may have wider name recognition, Ruest has quietly built a reputation of excellence that is spreading beyond his Austin home base. A veteran with nearly two decades’ experience on the bandstand, Ruest’s passion for classic blues (jump, Chicago, and Gulf Coast) and roots rock forms comes through in an original voice that combines immediacy and authenticity. Dead-on songwriting and savvy selection of covers provide a platform for his unaffected, honest vocals and tough guitar.

Gene Taylor is an extraordinary blues piano-player and singer, born in Los Angeles, California, in 1952. At the age of eight, he came under the influence of a family of blues and boogie-woogie players who moved in next door to his house. After starting out with the drums, he switched to the piano and the guitar at age ten. He learned very quickly playing by ear and, at age 11, he began performing in a 'family band' with his best friend Jim Payne and Jim's parents. They worked occasional neighborhood functions, giving Gene his first experience as a 'paid musician'---playing and singing country music.
