Ronan Donovan - Photographer
Social by Nature

What's a human? We are, at our core, social mammals. We build relationships, communicate, reproduce, establish territories, and adapt to shrinking resources. In these ways, we're no different than other social mammals. Chimpanzees, wolves, gorillas, and bears are among the most charismatic of the mammals we know. We identify with them as species, groups, and even as named individuals. They're also under threat. Join biologist turned photographer Ronan Donovan as he talks about his work in documenting these animals and what we, as fellow social mammals, can learn from them.

Mireya Mayor - Primatologist
Pink Boots and a Machete

A former NFL cheerleader and daughter of Cuban immigrants who grew up in Miami, Mireya Mayor followed her unlikely dreams. In short order, she became a respected primatologist, audacious explorer, and Emmy Award-nominated wildlife correspondent for the National Geographic Channel.

Mayor’s adventures have taken her—armed with little more than a backpack, notebooks, and hiking boots—to some of the wildest and most remote places on earth. Hailed as a “female Indiana Jones” and an inspiration to young women interested in science and exploration, she has survived poisonous insect bites, been charged by gorillas and chased by elephants—and keeps going back for more. She shares stories, images, and film clips of her adventures in this behind-the-scenes look at the hardships and danger of life in the field, along with the moments of discovery that make it all worthwhile.

Nora McInerny

You know how every day someone asks “how are you?” And even if you’re totally dying inside, you just say “fine,” so everyone can go about their day? Not this show. The Terrible, Thanks for Asking podcast is the opposite of that. Nora McInerny asks real people to share their complicated and honest feelings – sometimes sad, sometimes funny, and sometimes both at once.

Terrible, Thanks for Asking LIVE is a spectacular, theatrical presentation of the podcast with live music and multimedia storytelling of an unpublished episode. On-stage narration from Nora, audio clips and beautiful, bold visuals bring the audience through the signature Terrible, Thanks for Asking emotional journey. Nora will also present a selection from her newest book, No Happy Endings and sign your copy (books available at the show)! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you won’t want to miss the human connection. Or the sack of rare coins secretly placed under one seat in the auditorium. Is that a real thing??? YOU’LL NEED TO BE THERE TO FIND OUT.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

One of folk music’s busiest traveling troubadours, Todd Snider, will bring an evening of song-singing and storytelling to the Fitzgerald Theater for the release of his new album, Cash Cabin Sessions, Vol. 3.

Snider, a witty songwriter who is just as entertaining in-between songs as he is while singing them, has released 17 albums since 1994, including two live records, a tribute album to his friend and mentor Jerry Jeff Walker and a slew of others that showcase his unique humor and skilled songwriting abilities.

The native of Portland, Oregon became an author in 2014 when he finally put his many stories into a book that is aptly titled, I Never Met A Story I Didn’t Like. Similar to any Todd Snider concert, the book takes readers on an entertaining journey through the songwriter’s experiences both on and off the road.

When he’s not traveling the country with his guitar and stories, Snider is fronting Hard Working Americans, a widely-popular jam band that also includes drummer Duane Trucks and bassist Dave Schools from Widespread Panic.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Three-time Grammy Award winner, Lucinda Williams has been carving her own path for more than three decades now.

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Williams had been imbued with a “culturally rich, economically poor” worldview. Several years of playing the hardscrabble clubs gave her a solid enough footing to record a self-titled album that would become a touchstone for the embryonic Americana movement – helping launch a thousand musical ships along the way.
While not a huge commercial success at the time Lucinda Williams (aka, the Rough Trade album) retained a cult reputation, and finally got the reception it deserved upon its reissue in 2014. Jim Farber of New York’s Daily News hailed the reissue by saying “Listening again proves it to be that rarest of beasts: a perfect work. There’s not a chord, lyric, beat or inflection that doesn’t pull at the heart or make it soar.”

For much of the next decade, Williams moved around the country, stopping in Austin, Los Angeles, Nashville, and turning out work that won immense respect within the industry (winning a Grammy for Mary Chapin Carpenter’s version of “Passionate Kisses”) and a gradually growing cult audience. While her recorded output was sparse for a time, the work that emerged was invariably hailed for its indelible impressionism — like 1998’s Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, which notched her first Grammy as a performer.
The past decade brought further development, both musically and personally, evidenced on albums like West (2007), which All Music Guidecalled “flawless…destined to become a classic” and Blessed (2011), which the Los Angeles Times dubbed “a dynamic, human, album, one that’s easy to fall in love with.” Those albums retained much of Williams’ trademark melancholy and southern Gothic starkness, but also exuded more rays of light and hope. This all lead to the 2014 release of Williams’ first double studio album Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone. The album received overwhelming praise from the media and fans, thus proving that Williams’ songwriting is as strong and important as it has ever been.Online processing fees are assessed on a per ticket basis. Born in Havana, Cuba and raised in North Bergen, NJ, Joey ‘Coco’ Diaz has quickly become one of the most sought after actors and comedians in the entertainment industry today. His love of storytelling is reflected in each role he takes: whether it is on film or on stage, his passion for entertaining and delighting audiences shines through every performance.

Diaz’s start in comedy began while serving a short stint at a correctional facility in Denver, CO in 1988. “Each Wednesday we would watch movies on the projector, but sometimes it would break,” he shares, “so I would get up and do stand up to fill the time.” Learning he had the skills to make an audience laugh, he pursued comedy after his release and began performing at an assortment of comedy clubs in the area.

While he was touring as a working comic, he began acting in a variety television and film roles. You may recognize him from his appearances in The Mentalist, Children’s Hospital, My Name is Earl, or General Hospital - to name a few. On the film front, Diaz has held roles in The Longest Yard, Spider-Man 2, Smiley Face, and Taxi, among others.

Diaz continues to perform stand up and act, while also staying on top of the new media move in podcasting. Currently, Diaz hosts his bi-weekly podcast The Church of What’s Happening Now, which ranks among some of the most highly downloaded podcasts online. He is also a regular guest on Joe Rogan’s popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. On the comedy front, Diaz continues to tour and perform at the biggest comedy clubs in the country.

His comedy specials in “The Testicle Testaments” have sold thousands of downloads, and have even made it to the Billboard Top 100. Diaz’s raw style of comedy is highlighted on television with recurring sketch roles on Stand Up Revolution and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Later this year, Diaz will release his new DVD/CD special – which will surely top the charts once more.

Ami Vitale - Photojournalist
Rhinos, Rickshaws and Revolutions

Experience our world through the eyes of an award-winning photographer whose career has brought her face-to-face not just with violence and conflict, but also with surreal beauty and the enduring power of the human spirit. Ami Vitale’s work has taken her to more than 90 countries. She’s lived in mud huts and war zones, contracted malaria, and donned a panda suit—all in keeping with her philosophy of “living the story.”

Early in her career, her focus was on conflict, such as the war in Kosovo, and the border dispute between India and Pakistan. Her first National Geographic story documented the last rickshaws in Kolkata, India. More recently, she has turned her lens to wildlife stories, including efforts to reintroduce white rhinos and pandas to the wild. Her coverage of Kenya’s northern white rhinos, and the indigenous communities working to protect them, earned her World Press Photo recognition in 2015.

Vitale’s career has taught her that stories about nature and wildlife are also stories about people—and that, at the same time, “you can’t talk about humanity without talking about nature.” She’ll share her personal odyssey, told through the images and adventures that have transformed her into a celebrated global photojournalist.

What The Pump and Dump Show’s #BandOfMothers are saying on social:

“The Pump and Dump Show is basically the best thing you can do for yourself as a mom. It’s therapy and wine and laughs and a lifeline all rolled into one.”

“Saw your show last night and I have to say it changed my life. You moms are amazing and the deeper message your share is bigger than amazing. Thank you so much!”

“A much needed night out with my girls and a much needed reminder that solidarity is key to surviving motherhood. You are hilarious!”

“A mom from the audience got up and said it’s been a year and a half since she had a night out. That’s when I fell in love with The Pump and Dump girls who gave that mom a reason to get out and laugh her face off because we all need that. I loved that they were using humor to bring so many women together… They are legit.”

Paula Poundstone is one of our country’s preeminent comedians, known for her smart, observational humor and spontaneous wit that has become the stuff of legend. She tours regularly performing over 85 shows a year.

Paula is also an Author, Lecturer, Host, and Actress. In her second book, The Totally Unscientific Study Of The Search For Human Happiness (Algonquin Books) she asks the question, “Is there a secret to human happiness?” She offers herself up as a guinea pig in a series of “totally scientific” experiments, recording her data for all mankind. Kirkus Reviews calls it, "A deeply revealing memoir in which the pathos doesn’t kill the humor—delivers more than it promises." The book debuted at #1 on Amazon best sellers lists in Humor in Hardcover, Audible, Kindle and CD within its first ten days of release and is now out in paperback. The audio book, read by Paula, was one of five finalists for the 2018 Audio Book of the Year.

Paula is a popular panelist on NPR's # 1 show, the weekly comedy news quiz, Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! Her new weekly podcast for Maximum Fun, Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone, is a comedy field guide to life. Each week Paula and her co-host, Adam Felber, a friend and fellow panelist on Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! bring on leading expert guests and use their unique comedic sensibility to help us navigate life in the 21st century. Along the way, Paula attempts to explain existence through her kaleidoscopic perspective, and Adam tries to interject some rationality.

Paula’s guest appearances include The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Star Talk with Neil deGrasse Tyson, Late Night with Carson Daly, Nerdist with Chris Hardwick, and she was a clue in a New York Times crossword puzzle. She's filed commentaries for CBS Sunday Morning, and Morning Edition and All Things Considered for NPR. She voices the character “Paulette” in Cartoon Network’s new animated series Summer Camp Island. An avid Disney movie fan, Paula had a dream come true when she was cast to voice the character “Forgetter Paula” in Disney/Pixar's Inside Out, winner of the 2017Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

Paula has had numerous HBO specials and starred in her own series on HBO and ABC. Her second special for HBO, Paula Poundstone goes to Harvard, marked the first time the elite university allowed its name to be used in the title of a television show.

Paula was the first woman, in its then 73rd year, to perform standup comedy at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. She won an American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup Comic and is recognized in innumerable lists, documentaries, and literary compendiums noting influential standup comedians of our time.
