    MATT MARSHAK

Long Island, NY singer/songwriter and guitarist Matt Marshak brings a truly unique blend of heartfelt music to the world. His sound and his songs transcend the limitations of genre and classification. From his funky jazz and blues albums to his latest singer songwriter releases, Matt’s music always strives to be honest and from the heart.  Whether it be festival stages across the world or an intimate small venue, Matt’s hope has always been to bring peace and joy to his audiences through his music. Some of his career highlights include two #1 songs on the jazz charts, his own furniture line from Pulaski Furniture, and tour dates across the globe.

Matt Marshak grew up in Eastern Long Island, NY. Rock n' roll and the blues were his first love. Guitarists Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani and BB King were some of his earliest influences. Matt performed with many bands as a sideman in NY performing at venues such as The Bitter End. On one special night  while Matt was performing, legendary Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore listened to the set and praised Matt for his guitar work--this was a pivotal moment for Matt and his musical journey.

Later it would be jazz guitarists such as Larry Carlton and George Benson who would influence Matt's music. R&B and Funk icons such as Prince and James Brown also had a major impact on Matt's music. Matt began performing his own original jazz at a little restaurant in Oyster Bay, NY called "Fiddleheads." Within months the trio had attracted a big following and they were soon invited to perform at the IMAC theater in Huntington, NY. NYC jazz station CD101.9 at the time named Matt "Best New Artist" and he received airplay from his new album.

Matt also began to tour the USA and Europe in support of his jazz releases. Matt would soon perform on the same bills as artists such as Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton, David Sanborn, among other iconic artists. Tour stops included the Dubai International Jazz Festival, Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Spain's Mallorca Jazz Festival to name a few. In 2017 Matt was the featured artist with Prince saxman Marcus Anderson on a #1 Billboard Jazz song "Cup of Joe." Matt also toured and performed with Canadian Jazz/Funk group Four 80 East.

    BOB JAMES
    WEBSITE

The career of Bob James is long, varied and continues to evolve at every turn. From his first days in Marshall, Missouri, the music of Bob James has captivated audiences throughout the world.

Discovered by Quincy Jones at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival in 1963, James recorded his first solo album, Bold Conceptions, that year for Mercury Records. 58 albums and innumerable awards would follow through five decades. He honed his skills working with Creed Taylor, working on albums for artists like Hank Crawford, Grover Washington, Jr, among others.  While with CTI, James found great popular success overseeing significant hits for Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Maynard Ferguson, and Kenny Loggins.

In 1974, James finally recorded his own album, One, which launched a lifelong career of recording and performing live. After three more albums, James began his own label, Tappan Zee Records.   This allowed James to spend more time in the studio, focusing on his own creative works.  It was during this time that he recorded his own gold seller, Touchdown, which included his composition, “Angela”, the instrumental theme from the sitcom Taxi, and possibly James’ best know work.  Bob composed all the original music used in that television series for its entire run. One On One, the first in three collaborations with Earl Klugh, was awarded a Grammy in 1980 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, and has sold over a million copies. During this time, James set the standard for the smooth jazz sound in the late 1970s.

A different aspect of the musical talent of Bob James was demonstrated on his three classical albums recorded for the CBS Masterworks division, the first of which was Rameau released in 1984, and followed by The Scarlatti Dialogues & Bach keyboard concertos with the Pekinel Sisters.

In 1985 James moved to Warner Bros Records, and kicked things off with Double Vision, a collaboration with David Sanborn, and produced by Tommy LiPuma.  Double Vision was another Grammy winner, selling over a million albums.

    EMANUEL WYNTER
    WEBSITE

Hailing from Charlotte, classically trained violinist and songwriter Emanuel Wynter is taking ears and stages by storm with a distinctive sound and a lively, high-spirited stage presence that is infectious to everyone in the room. Taking influence from artists such as Anthony Hamilton, Leon Bridges, and Gary Clark Jr., Emanuel’s sound is a unique, vibrant, and expressive blend of R&B and Rock that manages to be raw in emotion and refined, sonically. He finds a way to sing, not only through rich and soulful vocals, but through his electrifying violin playing that is, at times, quite reminiscent of electric guitar. With dynamic musicianship and sincere lyricism, Emanuel Wynter is sure to keep your toes tapping and your soul singing. In past years, Emanuel played a supporting role as auxiliary violinist in other NC-based groups, such as 9daytrip, Stick & Stones, and many more, but 2018 was the year in which he introduced himself as a songwriter and artist with the release of Cosmos. That ultimately led to his first EP release in early 2020, titled These Past Two Years, that Delaney Clifford from CLTure described as “an album that refuses to be overlooked.” In the year of 2022, Emanuel has been hard at work, writing and recording music that begins the next chapter of his professional career, starting with the release of his first live album, titled From Orbit, in October of 2023.

    PAUL TAYLOR
    WEBSITE
    WATCH

Over 25 years into a stellar, multi-faceted career that’s found him continually pushing the sonic boundaries of what’s possible in contemporary urban jazz, saxophonist Paul Taylor brings us his highly-anticipated new recording AND NOW THIS on Peak Records.

AND NOW THIS, fully created via the exchange of digital files between the Las Vegas based Taylor and his longtime musical compadre, collaborator, co-writer and producer Dino Esposito, features the saxman’s ongoing exploration of an expansive range of dynamic danceable grooves and intricate pop/electronica vibes. The ten tracks fully reflect the way Taylor began moving forward in his personal and creative life, as if to say, in his words, “we’re coming out of the pandemic, this is what I’ve been creating, we’re kicking it back into high gear and we are more open-minded in our approach to music than ever.”

From the atmospheric soul and fast paced funk of the title track (featuring the guitar of Brian Monroney) through the sultry flow of the closing track “Good Night,” AND NOW THIS also celebrates the decades long friendship and intuitive, forward thinking musical chemistry between Taylor and Esposito. Their dynamic history dates back to when they played in the same band as students at the University of Nevada Las Vegas – and includes Taylor touring in Esposito’s band when he was a pop star in the late 80s touring with New Kids on the Block.

While for some artists, song titles on instrumental urban jazz releases are merely clever sounding afterthoughts, the names of each track on AND NOW THIS represent the feeling and intention of the music. With its funked out grooves and swirling sax notes in the hook, “Friday@5” is all about that moment when we clock out, make our weekend plans and have the freedom to, as Taylor says, “chill and relax or take a drive along the coast.” Likewise, “The Face of You” represents a new facet of the saxman’s ever-deeper artistry, an immersion into an urban exotica landscape and hypno-cool synth textured atmosphere with his ever-present soaring soprano. Next is “Epic Dream,” a groove of soundscape effects and soaring atmospheres that’s pure dreamy escapist.

    ACOUSTIC ALCHEMY

“It’s been quite a while since the release of the last album, and in that time an awful lot has happened.” is the opening line from Greg Carmichael’s notes for the band’s brand new album, 33 1/3 , and never a truer word has been written. The last studio album from the band, ‘Roseland’, was released in 2011, followed by a live double album, ‘Live In London’, in 2014. “It has almost become a running joke, “ says Miles Gilderdale, “after every single show we are constantly being asked, ‘When’s the new album coming out?’ It’s nice to finally have an answer for them.”

There are two main reasons for the amount of time fans have had to wait for this album. The first is that the band feel very passionately that you should only write and album when you have something to say. “We’re quite lucky in that respect, “ says Miles, “we don’t have a record label breathing down our necks telling us we need to put out something every year.” Greg; “ For us, the only time we even consider going into the studio is when we have some material that we really believe in. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had the space to even think about being creative.” Greg’s wife Jan was tragically and suddenly struck with meningitis shortly before an American tour in 2015, “It’s one of those things that you hear about, but never imagine happening to you or your loved ones. One day she was absolutely fine and the next we were in hospital with Jan in a coma and the doctors telling me there was a chance she would never come out of it.” Fortunately she did recover, though the ferocity of the infection has left her permanently affected. It’s just incredible that something can do that to someone so quickly, so as you imagine I couldn’t even think about writing or playing.”
