LIVE! ON STAGE: JONATHAN RICHMAN featuring TOMMY LARKINS on the drums!
While Jonathan Richman was first recognized for his early 70s proto-punk band, the Modern Lovers, this acclaimed musician evolved into an acoustic balladeer, writing, recording and performing his sincere and open hearted songs, often in a variety of languages. He’ll be joined by his longtime collaborator Tommy Larkins.
“The music we're doing now works well in quiet places like theaters and performing art centers. We still don't use a program or a set list so we don't know what we'll do until we do it. Please do not expect old songs. Many singers my age do a retrospective; this show is not like that. It's mostly stuff made up in the last 3 and 4 years. Some of the songs presented might be in different languages; this is not to be esoteric or clever, it's because the different languages help me express different feelings sometimes. One last thing, my idea of a good show has nothing to do with applause. It's about if all the songs I sang that night were ones that I felt.” - Jonathan

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The Capitol Fools hold up a mirror to our crazy political culture, providing hilarious song parodies and foolish reflections that continue to inspire belly-laughter. Audiences will continue to see cast members from past seasons of the Capitol Steps performing all the beloved bits, the mind-boggling backward talking spoonerisms, break-neck costume changes, over-the-top impressions, and all-new song parodies reflecting the day’s news. The Capitol Steps started in 1981 by some US Senate staffers in Illinois Senator Charles Percy’s office to provide Christmas party entertainment and to rib the people that employed them. Soon, they were touring the nation chronicling the humor found in current events through clever song parodies. Struggling like many performing arts organizations during the coronavirus pandemic, the Capitol Steps shut down in 2021
.After receiving the sad retirement news, long-time Capitol Steps performer Jack Rowles, Steps co-writer Mark Eaton and Michael Pauken, general manager of the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, Illinois worked together to set the stage for the Capitol Fools. The premiere performance took place in Skokie, IL in April 2022.
“The creative process is pretty much what it has always been,” said writer Mark Eaton. “You see a headline or news story, and you search to find the funnier parts. As for the new group—this is not going in with a bunch of strangers—the cast includes some of Capitol Steps top notch performers who just don’t know when to throw in the towel. I do hope political satire still has a place in the comedy world because it’s important.”
When asked if the troubling events of January 6th make it difficult to keep putting the ‘mock’ in Democracy, Eaton commented, “I don’t think the mock should ever be removed. Our government officials and folks in power don’t like being made fun of. I suspect they would rather be attacked in the media than be ridiculed and made to look stupid. Regardless of which side you support, there is plenty of humor to be mined. And when it comes to politics, if you don’t laugh at some of this nonsense, it will drive you crazy!”
“Because we CAN, SHOULD, and NEED TO,” declares Jack Rowles on why political satire should continue. "We CAN is a tribute to living in a great country. SHOULD refers to the medicine of laughter, especially when dealing with the bat-shit craziness of politics. NEED TO…there is nothing more powerful than sitting in a room full of politically astute patrons from all political persuasions sharing laughter and making fun of folks from both sides of the aisle.”No matter who holds (or doesn’t hold) office, there is never a shortage of material. Mark Eaton adds, “We’ve always said our show’s greatest enemy is a competent government. Therefore, we should be around for a long, long time.”Not a Spectacle Live Member? The Irish Comedy Tour takes the party atmosphere of a Dublin pub and combines it with a boisterous, belly-laugh band of hooligans. The group’s comedians and musicians, whose ancestors hail from the Emerald Isle, include Detroit native Derek Richards; Ohio’s Michael Malone; Nova Scotia’s Damon Leibert; and from Inchicore, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland Derrick Keane.Audiences howl at Richards’ tales about his child free existence, living in Las Vegas and his blue collar upbringing . He has appeared on Amazon Prime, The Bob & Tom Show, SiriusXM, and The Weather Channel’s Top 10. He just released his fourth album, Double Down, available on iTunes, Spotify and Soundcloud.Leibert’s unique and energetic style of fiddle playing lies somewhere between the driving dance beat of Cape Breton, and the lyrical music of Ireland. His power packed performance adds an incredible dimension to the show.Keane, originally from Inchicore, Derrick first distinguished himself musically when the duo in which he sang and played swept the All Ireland Talent Competition. His band, Inchicore, sets the gold standard for the Irish music scene in New England and across North America. A brilliant voice and razor sharp wit make him a huge hit on the tour. And finally, Malone, with his blistering humor that focuses on breaking down the idiotic ways we deal with life, death, love, and grief. An absolute hammer of a comedian seen on Fox, Comedy Central, Showtime and HULU. Watch his special, Laugh After Death.

RAUL MALO is the incomparable frontman of genre-defying, GRAMMY Award-winning band The Mavericks, and the sole writer of many of their songs. His free-wheeling, swaggering style seamlessly blends neotraditional country, rock ’n roll, and Latin rhythmic fervor, and prominently features his lush, soaring baritone. His compositional craftsmanship includes penning progressive and timeless hits like “Here Comes the Rain,” “What A Crying Shame”, “Dance The Night Away”, “Back In Your Arms Again”, and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down.”
From his earliest days, when his raucous sound broke ground at the punk clubs on Miami Beach, to fronting The Mavericks over three decades of acclaimed recording and touring, Malo has demonstrated an unfailing skill for getting people to groove. Not a Spectacle Live Member? Not only a guitar hero, but a prolific composer, he has amassed over 30 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return to Forever(with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White), the celebrated acoustic Guitar Trio featuring fellow virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. And while his dazzling technique on both acoustic
and electric guitars has afforded him regal status among the hordes of fretboard fanatics who regularly flock to his concerts, the depth of Di Meola's writing along with the soulfulness and the inherent lyricism of his guitaristic expression have won him legions of fans worldwide beyond
the guitar aficionado set.A limited number of VIP MEET & GREETS will be available as an add-on during checkout. The VIP MEET & GREET will include a Pre-Show Meet & Greet to be held during sound check.

This popular theater show is a cross generational crowd pleaser and has been selling out every theater and performing arts center that the show plays at. The band is widely celebrated and known for re-creating spot on, note for note re-creations of the hits, B-sides and deep album cuts from the greatest songs of the 1960’s.
In addition to the concert experience, the show is full multi -media Broadway type production that is powerfully dramatized by a combination of time travel special effects, narration, 60’s archival audio and newsreel footage and a light show. This seen to be believed bigger-than-life, Broadway theater styled show is nothing less than awe-inspiring.
The Sixties Show is a high energy trip back in time that reminds the audience how uniquely inspirational, entertaining, and historically significant the music and events of the 1960’s was and continues to be.
