Ukraine’s Kommuna Lux performs "Odessa Gangsta Folk:" thrilling Klezmer music and rowdy speakeasy tunes from their hometown, powered by rocket fuel. Just as the streets of Odessa are rich with nostalgia and a bohemian Black Sea coastal vibe, Kommuna Lux’s
melodies are filled with dazzling rhythms, refreshing anarchy, and plenty of joie de vivre! The seven musicians founded the group around 2014. Surprised Odessites discovered flash mobs of the “gangsters” making music all around town: the Privoz market, the old #5 wooden tram line, the Primorsky Boulevard promenade, and rusty rocking boats at Lustdorf Beach. This pioneering time was followed by major concerts on renowned stages of the city, the country, and then worldwide. Since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, Kommuna Lux has collected donations at all their concerts to support humanitarian causes. They honor their hometown and Ukraine’s heroes with a brilliant sound and spectacular concert!

About Jeremy Pinnell:
WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | LISTEN
When Jeremy Pinnell released OH/KY in the summer of 2015 to stunned acclaim, it felt like an entire career compressed into one knock-out album. Hailed as, a “Mind-blowingly good” (Greg Vandy/KEXP) “ ”tutorial on classic country music” (Popmatters), Pinnell’s debut immediately differentiated as authentic and unflinching. Dogged touring through Europe and the States and celebrated radio sessions followed, cementing Pinnell’s position as a no-fuss master of his craft.
His 2017 album, Ties of Blood and Affection presented a canny lateral move. Instead of doubling down on the stark themes and values of his debut, the sophomore album found Pinnell finding comfort in his own skin, achieving the redemption only hinted at in his previous batch of haunted songs.
If the third time’s a charm, Pinnell is all shine and sparkle on Goodbye LA. Produced by Texan Jonathan Tyler, the tunes buff the wax and polish the chrome on Country music’s deeper roots. Rooted in his steady acoustic guitar, Pinnell’s songs are shot through with honest and classic elements. The rhythm section, all snap and shuffle, finds purpose in well-worn paths. The pedal steel and Telecaster stingers arrive perfectly on cue, winking at JP’s world-wise couplets . Here slippery organ insinuates gospel into the conversation. You can feel the room breathe and get a sense of these musicians eyeballing each other as their performances are committed to tape. And through it all comes this oaken identity, the devastating centerpiece of his work. Honest and careworn, Jeremy’s voice can touch on wry, jubilant, and debauched - all in a single line. At his best, Jeremy Pinnell chronicles the joy and sorrow of being human, which is the best that anyone could do.

ABOUT TAYLOR KELLY:
INSTAGRAM | SPOTIFY | EPK
Born and raised in the suburbs of Rochester, NY, Taylor Kelly is now a fixture in the vibrant Philadelphia music scene further honing her introspective take on jazz, soul, and funk. She combines her smooth, powerful, technically-informed voice with a full horn section, addictive hip hop and electronic beats, and complex arrangements she writes herself. Her sound is a dynamic blend of several established genres: she melds the improvisational looseness of jazz, the rhythmic earworms of funk, and the moving resonance of soul to carve out a niche all her own. Kelly names Stevie Wonder, Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu, Chet Baker and Emily King as influences, integrating strong melodic contour and intricate harmonies into lyrically personal and sonically anthemic tracks.
‘All I Need’, Kelly’s EP released in February 2022, is an intimate and minimalistic departure from her previous work, which typically features an 8-piece band. Kelly recorded this project alone with her producer, Robby Webb, at his home studio before adding the colors, textures and prowess of Danae Greenfield (keys), Simon Martinez (guitar), Matt Keppler (bass), Conner Saltzer (drums), Frankie DeRosa (strings) and Zeek Burse (additional vocals). She credits Webb with helping her navigate the evolution of her sound. Kelly’s voice is the most prominent instrument in this latest project, providing both the melodic focal point as well as lush, layered harmonies. The result is a deeply groovy, moving and at times melancholic meditation on Kelly’s conflicted and searching inner world. The first single, “Maybe”, was featured in Chicago’s Vocalo Radio’s “In Rotation” playlist for November 2021 where she was also interviewed. See interview here.
Kelly is a Berklee College of Music graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Music. Along with her band, she has released six albums/EPs, has shared the stage with Dirty Loops, St Paul and the Broken Bones, Moonchild, Becca Stevens, Monophonics, Neal Francis, Giacomo Turra and Georgia Anne Muldrow and has played at Beardfest and Rose Arts Festival. She has amassed over 750,000 listens for her single “California” on streaming services worldwide and has uplifted, inspired, and energized thousands of ardent concertgoers at hundreds of live shows with her unabashed authenticity and immersively freeing performance style. She released a live album entitled ‘Live in Philly’ with three accompanying videos on June 16th of 2023. Kelly has an unyielding, marrow-deep commitment to self expression through music and will continue to transfer this passion to her listeners with her new EP set to release later this year.

About Noah Gundersen:

It’s a strange thing to have a living artifact of your younger self. To observe the manifestations of a younger you’s inner life. To be honest, it’s often cringy and anxiety inducing. With the benefit of hindsight, our shortsightedness and misplaced fears and hopes seem so obvious.
As I look back, ten years later, to the person I was when I made Ledges, I see a young man full of ambition and naivety, desperate for validation and a sense of belonging. I see a boy with a singular vision and a hell of a lot to learn.
They say you have your whole life to make your first record and 18 months to make your second. Although Ledges isn’t technically my first album, for all intents and purposes, it feels like it. It was the one I spent years writing. Some songs were written on a mattress on the floor of a rented room I shared with a friend, in a run down old house I moved into when I left my folks place at 17. Some I wrote in my first apartment in Seattle. One was written in the early hours of the morning, waking up on a friends couch to a simple, beautiful piano arrangement Abby wrote. One, after the unexpected heroin overdose that resulted in the death of a friend. Another, after briefly reigniting an old flame, only to watch it quickly burn out.
Everything was new back then. The colors were brighter, the highs higher, the lows lower. Falling in love felt like the first time. Heartbreak felt like the end of the world. Ideas felt important and the future was a big, empty canvas.
There’s a lot of self importance in all of this and ultimately this is just some record that some kid made. But to that kid this record felt like his whole world. And like all records, it’s a little snapshot in time. And how lucky we are to have snapshots, photographs of moments and memories that ground us in the reality we’ve lived. (LEARN MORE HERE).
