PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Contempo Physical Dance joins forces with guest choreographer Nildinha Fonseca, master teacher and dancer from Balé Folclórico da Bahia, for a powerful evening of contemporary Afro-Brazilian dance.

Contempo is recognized for dynamic Afro-Brazilian dance fused with a lush contemporary aesthetic. Fonseca is a black movement activist, Afro-Brazilian feminist and artist from Bahia, Brazil - highly recognized as a female leader in a field dominated by male choreographers.

Known as Daughter of Oba, Orixá that is the Queen of the Warriors, Fonseca's choreography is clearly immersed in her Afro-Brazilian lineage, and she creates work of cultural and physical intensity. Her world premiere, created for Contempo’s fiercely athletic dancers, will excite audiences with its innate theatricality.
