Prince once said that Kandace Springs “has a voice that could melt snow.” The music icon heard Springs’ cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” online in 2014 and invited her to perform with him at Paisley Park for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain, becoming a mentor to the young singer and pianist. Kandace’s 2014 self-titled EP turned even more heads and led to performances on Letterman, Kimmel and Fallon, as well as the Afropunk and Bonnaroo festivals. Okayplayer called her as “a vocal force to be reckoned with” and Afropunk dubbed her “a versatile and vital artist.”
Kandace’s 2016 debut album Soul Eyes presented an already remarkably mature artistic voice with an album that touched upon soul and pop while channeling her jazz influences as well as her Nashville upbringing. MOJO marveled at the album’s “sensuous vocals with minimalist yet elegant arrangements” while The Guardian raved that “she has a rare ability that can’t be taught – to sound like an old soul, just doing what comes naturally.”

Jennifer Koh, violin
University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra
John Nardolillo, conductor
Friday, April 7th, 2023 | 7:30 PM | SCFA Concert Hall
“Jennifer Koh is a risk-taking, high-octane player of the kind who grabs the listener by the ears and refuses to let go.” - The Strad
With an impassioned musical curiosity, Violinist Jennifer Koh forges an artistic path of her own devising, choosing works that both inspire and challenge - her performance at the Singletary Center for the Arts will be no different as she takes the concert hall stage with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, directed by Maestro John Nardolillo for the Kentucky Premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s mystifying violin concerto, “Procession”, which casts soloist Koh as a soothsayer, sorcerer, healer, and pied piper-type character, leading the orchestra through five interconnected healing spells.
Program also includes Outi Tarkiainen’s Songs of the Ice (KY premiere) and Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances.
SCFA Concert Hall. Reserved Seating.
*All tickets for the original March 3rd date were refunded back to the original payment method - old tickets are not valid and will need to be repurchased for the April 7th date

Directed by Stephen Wrentmore
THIS PERFORMANCE WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE GUIGNOL THEATRE LOCATED IN THE FINE ARTS BUILDING (465 ROSE STREET)
Based on the Academy Award-winning movie, this enchanting, hilarious, romantic stage play reimagines William Shakespeare's creative process – and explores his inspiration – as he writes Romeo & Juliet. Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block. The deadline for his new play is fast approaching, but he's in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse... the feisty, brilliant and beautiful Viola. This crafty young woman is Will’s greatest admirer and will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms, inspiring him to write his greatest romantic masterpiece.
