Lyric soprano Mary Claire E. Curran has performed as a solo artist at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Broadway’s Symphony Space and L.A.’s Marina Stage at the California Plaza. Ms. Curran possesses a Master’s of Music from University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, as well as an undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her voice has led her to travel the world in programs such as to Graz, Austria at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS), Italy with Operafestival di Roma, Salzburg at University of Miami’s voice program and Los Angeles as a Young Artist at SongFest. An actress at heart, Ms. Curran is comfortable on stage and on the screen. She has had featured speaking roles in national Comcast Commercials and was an extra on the long running series, One Tree Hill, and performs musical theatre, opera and oratorio. While in residence at UNCW, she won the prestigious Richard R. Deas Student Concerto Competition, performing “Donde lieta” from Puccini’s La Bohème with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. Before transitioning to soprano repertoire, Ms. Curran’s appearances included “Hansel” in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, “With One Look” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard with the Wilmington Symphony, and was a mezzo-soprano soloist for numerous oratorio concerts. This intimate evening of jazz is part of UNCW’s Alumni Weekend and benefits scholarships for students in the Department of Music, and is not to be missed.

Mozart’s Symphony No. 28, composed in his teens,
radiates an aura of fully formed genius. Paul Hindemith’s masterful Symphony: Mathis der Maler (Matthias the Painter)is drawn from his opera about an artist caught in the world of politics. Tubist Daniel Johnson brings the heavy metal for
Vaughan Williams’ Tuba Concerto - one of the composer’s most popular works, and essential repertoire for professional tubists.
