Presented by 89.9 WDAV, American pianist and 1997 Van Cliburn winner Jon Nakamatsu continues to draw unanimous praise as a true aristocrat of the keyboard, whose playing combines elegance, clarity, and electrifying power. Joining Jon in the second half of the program will be Charlotte Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Alan Black, performing the beautiful and virtuosic sonata for cello and piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Rafe Stefanini has been at the forefront of the revival of traditional music from the rural south for over thirty years. His work on fiddle, banjo, guitar and song is represented in over 20 CDs, both as headliner and as guest. Daughter Clelia Stefanini has followed in his footsteps quickly becoming competent on fiddle, guitar and vocals. Together they present a varied and exciting program of fiddle duets, banjo tunes, songs and ballads. Their show will thrill you and move you at the same time!There will be a pre-concert talk sponsored by DavidsonLearns in Tyler-Tallman Hall from 6:30-7:00 p.m. with light refreshments available after the talk.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Jake Blount is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, and scholar based in Takoma Park, Maryland. Blount took up banjo and fiddle as a student at Hamilton College and became a full-time performer and scholar in 2017. His art and scholarship both focus primarily on the music of Black and indigenous communities in the southeastern United States. Blount's music and research has been shared with the Smithsonian Institution, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and numerous other colleges, museums, and universities.

Presented by 89.9 WDAV, we are proud to welcome back the Ivalas Quartet who electrified the Duke Family Performance Hall by winning the 2019 WDAV Young Chamber Musicians Competition last April. Founded in Ann Arbor in 2016, the Ivalas Quartet is composed of violinists Reuben Kebede and Anita Dumar, violist Aimée McAnulty, and cellist Pedro Sánchez. Through music, they strive for the highest standard of playing in every performance and to be living proof of the power of diversity in all art forms.

The centerpiece of the Sloan Music Center is the 200-seat Tyler-Tallman Hall, an acoustically and visually stunning recital hall. The two-tiered venue is ideal for intimate musical performances and lectures, and is located on the upper floor and features two Steinway concert grand pianos and full audio-visual capacity to host recitals, lectures, and master classes. Tyler-Tallman Hall is on the second floor of the Sloan Music Center, located near the heart of campus, south of Chambers Building and east of the Baker-Watts Science Complex along Concord Road. Parking is conveniently located in the Baker Sports Complex or along Concord Road.
