Ra Ra Riot - Wes Miles (vocals), Mathieu Santos (bass), Milo Bonacci (guitar), Rebecca Zeller (violinist), Kenny Bernard(drummer) - introduced its unique brand of indie pop to the world in 2006 and got off to a fast start. After signing toBarsuk, the band released four critically acclaimed records over the next 10 years including 2016's Need Your Light, which earned praise from NPR, Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, Stereogum and more. That album spawned the band'sbiggest hit to date, "Water," a collaboration with longtime creative partner Rostam Batmanglij, which has streamedmore than 75 million times globally. On August 9, 2019 the band returned with Superbloom, an impossibly radiantalbum, a selection of songs powered by the most imaginative yet indelible melodies they've ever dreamed up. At thesame time, the band maintains the offbeat eclecticism they've embraced since first forming as a baroque- pop outfitback in the mid-2000s, embedding Superbloom's lavish arrangements with elements of psychedelia, new wave, punk, and country. Lead tracks, "Bad To Worse," "Flowers" and "Belladonna" have quickly become fan favorites.

Ra Ra Riot have continued to create some of the most fun live environments in indie rock, headlining worldwide andsharing tours with Jimmy Eat World, Third Eye Blind, Young The Giant, Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service, The Shinsand others and impressing on festival stages including Coachella, Austin City Limits, Icelandic Airwaves Festival,Lollapalooza and more. They look forward to bringing Superbloom to life on stages around the world over the next year.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Moonchild will be partnering with charities nationwide to support causes that work to positively impact local communities. $1 from each ticket sale will be donated, details forthcoming.

Moonchild is a combination of three multi instrumentalists - Amber Navran [vocals, tenor saxophone, flute, keyboards, synth bass, drum programming], Andris Mattson [trumpet, flugelhorn, keyboards, synth bass, guitar, drum programming], and Max Bryk [alto saxophone, clarinet, keyboards, synth bass, drum programming]. The resulting union yields an ever-evolving fusion of alternative R&B, jazz, and neo-soul. They all participate equally in writing, producing, tracking, and mixing their records, keeping the spirit of collaboration alive as they grow and transform as one.

"Our chemistry as writers was pretty instantaneous from the start," explains Andris. "The first tune we came up with, we all sat on a piano bench together and wrote as a unit. Nowadays, each of us has our own studio setup and are constantly making beats and writing songs on our own. We'll often send each other emails of beats we made and then get together to expand them into full songs. We have so much trust in each other during the writing process."

As Moonchild, the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts-never more so than on their fourth full-length, Little Ghost. After that first shared piano bench session at the University of Southern California, the group unveiled their debut Be Free in 2012. Please Rewind followed three years later, and 2017's Voyager saw them ascend to new critical peaks. NPR Music touted the record among, "Five R&B Albums You Slept On In 2017," and JAZZ FM named them "Soul Act of the Year" for 2018. "Cure" toppled 8 million Spotify streams, and "The List" exceeded 7 million plays on Youtube.

Along the way, the trio performed headline shows everywhere from the United States and Europe to Asia, and supported other tours for the likes of The Internet, Kamasi Washington, and more. As they began writing and recording Little Ghost in 2018, they continued to seek out new sounds and textures. While laying down tracks at Lake Arrowhead, Andris dove further into the guitar, incorporating it at the core of the new music.

"The three of us are always experimenting with new programs and gear and trying to improve our craft individually," he goes on. "I've been so into guitar, so that's a big shift from previous Moonchild albums. The acoustic and ukulele really expanded our sound. The keyboard-driven sounds and horns are still there, but they're intertwined with guitar."

"The evolution connects to the title," adds Amber. "At the end of a star's life, the gas expands into space and leaves a really beautiful nebula, and there is one up there called Little Ghost. We thought it was a cool concept of expansion, mirroring what we were doing as a group."

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
on valentines day, 2019, i was in bed with my girlfriend, in a hotel room in seattle, tripping on mushrooms. i was showing her bits and pieces of the album in its then unfinished form. at the time it was going to be called "i hope you meet everything you fear." i guess it still could be. but as i was hearing the songs outside of my own ego, i began to see a pattern. or more so a person. a boy. a boy who had tried really hard for a long time to fill a space in his heart. a boy who didn't know how to be alone, but regardless spent most of his time floating in his own head. a boy who really, really wanted to experience love - a majestic love, an epic love. and in the end, a boy who didn't have anything to prove anymore.

it's been a challenging couple years for me. i've had expectations shattered, relationships fail. i've felt the mortality of my own body. i've been hurt and caused hurt. i've spiraled into periods of substance abuse. but along the way i've sidled up to myself. i've been able to look in the mirror with more grace and be ok with who i see there, with all his flaws and imperfections.

some of these songs are very old. someone told me once that songwriters are like prophets (though he said you should never say that in an interview. sorry john). we're meant to see things that others can't. sometimes those "others" are ourselves. there are songs on this record that I wrote years ago, without really grasping their meaning until now. my therapist says art is the self talking to the self. i guess i was trying to get a message across, cast out into the sea of songs like a message in a shipwrecked bottle.

i imagine this album as a sci-fi movie, where a man travels through the infinite darkness of space, alone in his ship. he eventually goes mad, is visited by some interstellar being of light who bestows on him a revelation. he falls into a dream state and makes love with an angel and is made whole for a moment. later he wakes up, alone in his cockpit, with that sort of sad but beautiful certainty that comes from accepting one's aloneness.

this record is deeply personal. it's about love, it's about failure, it's about drugs, it's about sex, it's about age, it's about regret, it's about itself (very meta, i know) and it's about finding peace. i think it's the most i've ever put of myself into something. it's been cathartic. i've cried a lot.

my close friend and producer andy park also poured his soul into this record. we spent 2 years, mostly in his apartment, carving away at it. sometimes it felt like we had poured a slab of concrete, with the blind faith that somewhere inside was a beautiful sculpture. this is just as much his record as it is mine. also shoutout to his lovely girlfriend tess for letting me invade their space constantly and making them miss game of thrones because of last minute mix recalls.

to all the people in these songs, i love you. i'm sorry for the hurt i've caused.

and to you, the listener, i hope you find a space for this record. i hope it moves you. i hope above all that it can remind you to be kind to yourself, to find patience and grace.

"I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."
- Isaac Newton

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Crack the coffers, Oh Sees have spawned another frothy LP of head-destroying psych epics to grok and rock out to. You’ll notice the fresh dollop of organ and keyboard prowess courtesy of “Memory of a Cut Off Head” alum and noted key-stabber Tom Dolas…the Quattrone/Rincon drum-corps polyrhythmic pulse continues to astound and pound in equal measure, buttressed by the nimble fingered bottom end of Sir Tim Hellman the Brave and the shred-heaven fret frying of John Dwyer, whilst Lady Brigid Dawson again graces the wax with her harmonic gifts. Aside from the familiar psych-scorch familiar to soggy pit denizens the world over, there’s a fresh heavy-prog vibe that fits like a worn-in jean jacket comfortably among hairpin metal turns and the familiar but no less horns-worthy guitar fireworks Dwyer’s made his calling card. Perhaps the most notable thing about Smote Reverser is the artistic restlessness underpinning its flights of fancy. Dwyer refuses to repeat himself and for someone with such a hectic release schedule, that stretching of aesthetic borders and omnivorous appetite seems all the more superhuman.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night.

These were the first of what became SLF’s signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut Inflammable Material. The album chronicles the band’s anger and frustration at “the Troubles” in Northern Ireland, and calls on youth to create their own reality.

Over the years, their live shows continued to be special events of energy and power. Their studio albums demonstrate their passion and anger, each in its own way. In ’94 they released the Get a Life LP. The album helped renew interest in SLF just as newer bands that sited them as a major influence, such as Bad Religion, Sugar, Rancid and Therapy, were coming to prominence. In August 2003, Stiff Little Fingers released their ninth studio album, Guitar and Drum, which includes a moving tribute to Joe Strummer, entitled “Strummerville”.

After many studio albums and countless tours, Stiff Little Fingers find themselves more in demand than ever. They are currently working on a new album, and many of the new songs have been debuted at live gigs, with tremendous response from fans. With song titles like Trail of Tears, My Dark Places and Liar’s Club covering topics such as the recent economic collapse, Jake’s personal struggle with depression, and continuing racism in the west. Jake has said, “You’ve probably worked out by now, I don’t do “comedy” songs !!” But the songs continue to inspire fans old and new. Countless people have already contacted Jake to say that “My Dark Places” gave them the strength to tell others about their own bouts with depression.

Though focused on their new material, they always play the old favorites at gigs. Jake said, "You have to strike a balance. The difficulty with a band like ourselves is to try not make it sound like a cabaret band. Obviously, it’d be very easy to go, ‘Hey, here’s another old one you may remember.’ A lot of the old songs the audience greet like old friends. I suppose it’s the same as any band that’s been around for any length of time. And yes, there are nights that we don’t particularly want to play “Alternative Ulster” or “Suspect Device” because we’ve heard them ‘til they’re coming out our ears. But there’s always the possibility that somebody out there has never seen the band before, never heard them."

Using the band’s rich musical foundation as a building block, the time has come to bring the newest chapter of the band’s music to the world. The new songs, penned over the last decade, show a definite musical growth in the band. The result is the band’s latest release – No Going Back was released in March 2014.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
For some it was all of the live energy, for others it may have been the massive sleeper success of their 2016 LP but whatever it may be, Knocked Loose's arrival in the general public consciousness transcends metal and hardcore and into a new arena entirely.

Due on August 23rd, 2019 via Pure Noise Records, A Different Shade of Blue is the mammoth and hotly anticipated follow-up to their 2016 debut, the head-turning Laugh Tracks. Recorded by producer Will Putney, the new LP was approached slower and more methodically than the band's last smash effort, abandoning the previous "live in studio" recording approach for something more deliberate. Under Putney's direction, the band cranked out twelve new tracks that deal with all manner of anger, especially loss in lieu of absence. Vocalist and lyricist Bryan Garris initially felt blocked heading into the studio but eventually found catharsis, as well as some of his most intensely personal lyrics to date.

Forged on musical bonds built at an early age, Knocked Loose came together in the small yet relatively formidable hardcore / punk scene of the greater Louisville, KY area- the same that gave birth to bands ranging from Slint to Breather Resist to Endpoint to Coliseum. And though said scene was relatively strong, a lack of available bands, touring parties and scarcity of gigs forced diversity- mixing genres and challenging young ears with new ideas, approaches and styles. That diversity - death metal bands mingling with youth crew, screamo on the same bill as Am-Rep-style bands and on and on- created the basis of Knocked Loose musically and the genesis for their approach, an amalgam of heavy influences that never commits to any singular style but maintains a loyalty to the hardcore tradition.

While A Different Shade of Blue reflects the diverse musical influences and backgrounds of Knocked Loose, it also ups the ante. On the new effort, the quintet come harder with a more fine-tuned approach toward songwriting, riffs that would make Trey Azagthoth blush and an added level of vein-bulging fury to tie it into one nasty package. Featuring guest vocals from Emma Boster of Dying Wish and Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die, A Different Shade of Blue is not only a step forward for the band, but for hardcore as we know it. While some musical influences are easily identified-Pantera, Hatebreed, Obituary and more- the band's palette and canvas has expanded by leaps and bounds, incorporating Gothenburg-style death metal (At the Gates, early In Flames), slam metal (Devourment,
Dying Fetus), blood-thirsty thrash (Sodom, Kreator), black metal (Craft) and the mind-boggling complexity of latter noisy hardcore like Snapcase and Bloodlet. Spanning twelve tracks, including the massive single "Mistakes Like Fractures" which reared its ugly head in April via 7" single, A Different Shade of Blue clocks in at a lean and mean 37 minutes, grabbing the listener by the throat from the jump and slowly tightening that grip for the duration.

Knocked Loose is the obvious evolution to decades of bands like Integrity, Disembodied, Botch and others- total and complete integration between metal and hardcore into a singular, seamless entity. Since its inception, hardcore has evolved from the germ of "Slayer actually has punk parts" to crossover to the addition of everything from death metal to rap to shoegaze. Knocked Loose is the proverbial fish walking on land- the end of the evolution, and possibly the apex of the metallic hardcore punk movement thus far. Ably combining the teeth-clenching hatred of a hardcore band with the unmitigated technicality and ferocity of metal, Knocked Loose have conceived state of the art hatred- a true melting pot of ideas that combines pit-ready riffs, memorable songwriting and deviously clandestine melody into a boiling-over pot of vitriol.

What began as a fun 'side-project' of an already established band, Stardust To Ashes has suddenly exploded into the most in-demand David Bowie tribute in the Mid-Atlantic region. After only a couple of sold-out, small venue appearances in their hometown of Raleigh, NC, the band is now being booked into multi-thousand capacity venues by LiveNation - including The Ritz Raleigh and Charlotte's Fillmore. Led by frontman, Steve Baker, the entire band has created a stunningly accurate and respectful representation of Bowie's final and most critically-acclaimed touring years. As remarked upon by one observer, "It's like Stardust To Ashes has picked up where Mr. Bowie left off when he could no longer tour."

Poised to take bluegrass in bold new directions, singer/songwriter/guitarist Billy Strings is quickly gaining attention for his incendiary live performances and imbuing his take on Americana with distinctive bursts of psychedelic virtuosity. While deeply reverent of the roots of traditional bluegrass music, which his father shared with him as a boy, Strings learned his high-energy performing skills by playing fleet-fingered guitar solos in a heavy metal band in his native Michigan. While he has matured as a player, singer and songwriter in his own right, and re-embraced the music his father introduced him to, Strings has applied the intensity of heavy metal to bluegrass. The end results, as demonstrated on his most recent release, Turmoil & Tinfoil, provide a fresh jolt to the genre. Look for a new album from Billy Strings this fall.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Hailing from Seattle, The Dip is an electrifying seven-piece ensemble that melds vintage rhythm and blues and modern pop with 60s soul, tapped by KEXP as "one of the most exciting and joyous acts to emerge in recent years". The group quickly gained notoriety throughout the Pacific Northwest for their eminently danceable live shows that feature vocals from frontman Tom Eddy (Beat Connection), an effortlessly deep pocket, and the melodies of the "The Honeynut Horns". Hard-hitting but sensitive, The Dip harkens back to the deep soul roots of decades past while sounding undeniably relevant. The band's 2015 self-titled debut, recorded to tape at Avast! Studios, propelled them to notable appearances at Sasquatch! Music Festival, High Sierra Music Fest, Summer Meltdown, and Capitol Hill Block Party and built anticipation for their 2016 release, Won't Be Coming Back (EP). Now, the band prepares to arrive on the national stage with their second LP, The Dip Delivers. There's a certain alchemy to The Dip that unites music fans of all ages and backgrounds and leaves everyone smiling ear to ear.

The Infamous Stringdusters rise to new heights on their ninth full-length record Rise Sun. For the album, the GRAMMY® Award-winning quintet-Andy Falco [guitar], Chris Pandolfi [banjo], Andy Hall [dobro], Jeremy Garrett [fiddle], and Travis Book [double bass]-expanded their signature sound by perfecting their seamless fusion of All-American-bluegrass and rock.

Once again sail into uncharted territory moored only by their expressive patchwork of All-American bluegrass threaded together with strands of rock, jazz, funk, country, old-time, and more.

As they approached this latest body of work, the group's ambition matched their outsized creative curiosity.

"Rise Sun was sparked by the feeling of wanting something better for the world-more love, more awareness, and more compassion," says Hall. "It's a message of taking care of each other, our planet, and our selves. We all shared this feeling as evidenced by the songs we brought to the project. It's the feeling of a rising sun as opposed to a dark night. Sometimes a message of hope is less popular than one of despair, but it's much-needed nevertheless."

It's also a message that 13 years, eight studio projects, and nearly 1,000 shows prepared the boys to properly present. The Infamous Stringdusters stand out as the rare group who can team up with Ryan Adams on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert one night and headline the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre or perform alongside The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh the next. Engendering a sense of impassioned fandom, they band have attracted a faithful audience that continues to grow. Moreover, their powerful music and performances paved the way for a GRAMMY® Award win in the category of "Best Bluegrass Album" for 2017's Laws of Gravity.

When it came time to record what would become Rise Sun, they pushed themselves to evolve once more.

"Rise Sun is the latest chapter in the progression of our sound," says Pandolfi. "It's been a long arc that includes evolution on all fronts-writing, arranging, performing, and maybe most importantly, growing as humans who have more to say as the journey rolls on. New albums are the time when we write and introduce our strongest original material. On our last release Laws of Gravity, we really started to hit our stride with recording live in the studio. Rise Sun is another big step in that direction."

For the first time, the band chose the song order before actually recording. Additionally, they maintained that order throughout the process, recording the songs in sequence which resulted in a natural flow. This choice, "gives it the feeling of a story as you listen down," says Hall. It represented a moment of collective confidence.

"We self-produced the last album, so we felt validated in a sense that our instincts were sound," adds Book. "We came into this one with some confidence. Any doubts about our band or our mission had dissipated. What remained was a deep sense of purpose and love."

"The GRAMMY® put some high-octane gas in our tanks as well," grins Garrett. "We also wanted to rise to the challenge of making a follow-up project worthy of what we had done in the past."

The Infamous Stringdusters introduce the album with the handclap-driven gallop of the title track "Rise Sun." High energy banjo powers an uplifting and undeniable refrain that immediately shines.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Over the past two decades, Cursive has become known for writing smart, tightly woven concept albums where frontman Tim Kasher turns his unflinching gaze on specific, oftentimes challenging themes, and examines them with an incisively brutal honesty. 2000's Domestica dealt with divorce; 2003's The Ugly Organ tackled art, sex, and relationships; 2006's Happy Hollow skewered organized religion; 2009's Mama, I'm Swollen grappled with the human condition and social morality; and 2012's I Am Gemini explored the battle between good and evil. But the band's remarkable eighth full-length, Vitriola, required a different approach - one less rigidly themed and more responsive as the band struggles with existentialism veering towards nihilism and despair; the ways in which society, much like a writer, creates and destroys; and an oncoming dystopia that feels eerily near at hand.

Cursive has naturally developed a pattern of releasing new music every three years, creating records not out of obligation, but need, with the mindset that each record could potentially be their last. 2015 came and went, however, and the band remained silent for their longest period to date. But the members of Cursive have remained busy with solo records, a movie (the Kasher-penned and directed No Resolution), and running businesses (the band collectively owns and operates hometown Omaha's mainstay bar/venue, O'Leaver's). The band even launched their own label, 15 Passenger, through which they're steadily reissuing their remastered back catalogue, as well as new albums by Kasher, Campdogzz, and David Bazan and Sean Lane. And like many others, the band members have been caught up in the inescapable state of confusion and instability that plagues their home country, and seems to grow more chaotic with each passing day.

Which brings us to 2018 and Vitriola. For the first time since Happy Hollow, the album reunites Kasher, guitarist/singer Ted Stevens and bassist Matt Maginn with founding drummer Clint Schnase, as well as co-producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, M. Ward, Jenny Lewis) at ARC Studios in Omaha. They're joined by Patrick Newbery on keys (who's been a full-time member for years) and touring mainstay Megan Siebe on cello. Schnase and Maginn are in rare form, picking up right where they left off with a rhythmic lockstep of viscera-vibrating bass and toms, providing a foundation for Kasher and Stevens' intertwining guitars and Newbery and Siebe's cinematic flourishes. The album runs the sonic gamut between rich, resonant melodicism, Hitchcockian anxiety, and explosive catharsis - and no Cursive album would be complete without scream-along melodies and lyrics that, upon reflection, make for unlikely anthems.

There's a palpable unease that wells beneath Vitriola's simmering requiems and fist-shakers. Fiery opener "Free To Be or Not To Be You and Me" reflects the album's core: a search for meaning that keeps coming up empty, and finding the will to keep going despite the fear of a dark future. The album directs frustration and anger at not only modern society and the universe at large, but also inward towards ourselves. On "Under the Rainbow," disquiet boils into rage that indicts the complacency of the privileged classes; "Ghost Writer" has a catchy pulse that belies Kasher chastising himself for writing about writing; and "Noble Soldier/Dystopian Lament" is a haunting look at potential societal collapse that provides little in the way of hope but balances beauty and horror on the head of a pin.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
"Masana" is a fictional word created by Kikagaku Moyo to express a Utopian feeling; an existence where everything can interact harmoniously and offer inspiration and understanding. Their fourth album Masana Temples radiates this vision, architecting a vibrating world that isn't confined to the known limits of what came before it.

Kikagaku Moyo progressed from early days in Tokyo's experimental scene to traveling the world with their mind-bending sounds, exploring different facets of psychedelia on each new release and blowing minds with a live show that was just as searching as their records. The shifting dimensions of Masana Temples are informed by various experiences the band had with traveling through life together, ranging from the months spent on tour to making a pilgrimage to Lisbon to record the album with jazz musician Bruno Pernadas. The songs came together in the wake of the band breaking up the communal house most of them had shared in Tokyo, with some members relocating to Amsterdam, and others moving to different parts of Japan. Transitioning from being based in the scene they had roots in to scattering around various locales made for an even more enhanced understanding of how mystically connected the sum of their parts were when the band reunited to record new material. The music is the product of time spent in motion and all of the bending mindsets that come with it.

The band sought out Pernadas both out of admiration for his music and in an intentional move to work with a producer who came from a wildly different background. With Masana Temples, the band wanted to challenge their own concepts of what psychedelic music could be. Elements of both the attentive folk and wild-eyed rocking sides of the band are still intact throughout Masana Temples, but they're sharper and more defined. Without sacrificing any of their experimental impulses, songs are more composed and cohesive. Pernadas' bright production meets with nearly telepathically locked-in performances, on both lazy cloud-like jaunts like "Nazo Nazo" or fuzzed-out expeditions like lead single "Gatherings". Drummer/vocalist Go Kurosawa, guitarist/vocalist Tomo Katsurada, bassist Kotsuguy, sitar and keyboard player Ryu Kurosawa and guitarist Daoud Popal Akira act as a unit, with an intuitive attention to space and dynamics that could only come from years of playing together in every imaginable setting.

More than the literal interpretation of being on a journey, the album's always changing sonic panorama reflects the spiritual connection of the band moving through this all together. Life for a traveling band is a series of constant metamorphoses, with languages, cultures, climates and vibes changing with each new town. The only constant for Kikagaku Moyo throughout their travels were the five band members always together moving through it all, but each of them taking everything in from very different perspectives. Inspecting the harmonies and disparities between these perspectives, the group reflects the emotional impact of their nomadic paths.

Coming together in a way more deliberate than the beautifully floating improvisations of their Stone Garden EP or the sometimes hushed dreamstate of 2016 album House In The Tall Grass, Masana Temples is focused and clear in its vision in a way that feels unlike any of Kikagaku Moyo's earlier sounds.
