    About Gathering Field:
    WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | LISTEN

These words from "Days Fly Away," one of 12 new Bill Deasy compositions on the first Gathering Field record in a dozen years, reflect the band's "don't look back" attitude.

"I think we all feel this is an opportunity to hear what we sound like right now, not how we sounded way back when," lead guitarist Dave Brown observes. "This is very much about the present moment."

One listen to the band's new release, "Wild Journey," and the truth of Dave's statement becomes evident. Yes, there is something familiar there, the indefinable chemistry that hooked a legion of fans the first time around, but there is a new-found depth, a spark of wisdom, a heightened awareness. The result is a sound that is as it was, only more so, and then some.

Gathering Field began in a burned-out third floor in Grove City, Pennsylvania when Bill Deasy and Dave Brown hunkered down for the weekend with guitars, tequila and recording gear. The results provided more than enough evidence as to the creative spark between Dave and Bill, leading the duo to enlist bass player Eric Riebling (formerly of the Affordable Floors), drummer Ray DeFade, and John "the Junkman" Burgh on Hammond B3 organ, thereby forming the Gathering Field.

They released their self-titled debut in 1994 and began performing in Pittsburgh and beyond. Their popularity skyrocketed when one of the regions most powerful rock stations, WDVE, began playing a song called, "Lost in America." With the release of the record that bore the same name, Gathering Field garnered a deal with Atlantic Records in 1996 and continued to develop its ever-widening base of supporters.

In 2001, after nearly a decade of touring and 4 critically-acclaimed recordings, the band went on "hiatus." Bill Deasy released several solo projects and pursued song and fiction writing (he wrote and performed the theme for "Good Morning America" and published 3 novels.) Dave Brown produced several projects and all of the guys continued to perform and record regionally.

About Jacob Jolliff & Tal Yahalom:

Jacob Jolliff is one of the country's premier contemporary mandolinists. Jacob toured as a member of the beloved New England roots band, Joy Kills Sorrow, while attending Berklee School of Music on a full scholarship. In 2012, Jolliff won the National Mandolin Championship

in Winfield, KS. A fixture of the national bluegrass community, he has collaborated and shared the stage with Darol Anger, Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, Michael Daves, Tony Trischka, and David Grisman to name a few. When Joy Kills Sorrow disbanded in 2014, Jolliff got the call to join Yonder Mountain String Band and toured full time with them until the end of 2019. This last year, Jolliff released a new album with his group, The Jacob Jolliff Band, and also toured with Béla Fleck’s as part of My Bluegrass Heart.

Tal Yahalom is an award-winning Israeli guitarist, composer and bandleader based in Brooklyn, New York since 2014. Drawing from a wide range of influences—spanning jazz and impressionistic classical music to Brazilian repertoire and South-American guitar traditions—Tal aims to create engaging storytelling, adventurous interplay and a deep sense of groove while expanding on the traditional roles and textural capabilities of the guitar. As a leader, he performs regularly with diverse solo programs, a chamber-jazz quintet (set to release its debut album in 2024), a collective post-rock trio KADAWA, and various trios which have featured Caroline Davis, Dan Weiss, Eivind Opsvik and Rogerio Boccato. Tal is also an active part in many collaborations and stylistically-diverse projects in the New York and international creative music scene, led by musicians such as Adam O’Farrill, David Leon, Nick Dunston, Lisa Hoppe, and Gabriel Zucker.

Tal and Jacob’s high-energy duo shows feature a wide variety of repertoire, with their improvisational chemistry being at the center of all. They are kindred musical spirits who share a love of many styles and like to push the limits of the mandolin/guitar duo!

    About Small Hours:

Small Hours is a lively acoustic tribute to swing era greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Sarah Vaughan. Vocalist Margot Jezerc,

mandolinist Bryce Rabideau, and upright bassist Jason Rafalak harness their unconventional instrumentation to breathe new life into beloved songs and celebrate a century of American improvised music. The result is a technically tight, sonically inventive trio with a singular sound that anyone can enjoy. When they’re not performing as Small Hours, Margot, Bryce, and Jason tour the country with the Pittsburgh-based folk band Buffalo Rose.

    FACEBOOKLISTEN

Buzz Poets have been one of Pittsburgh’s most colorful, maniacal and solid bands since 1997 when the flashy and trashy band of rockers first hit the Pittsburgh music scene. Their high energy, alt rock style got people’s attention not only for the stage antics and lyrical content, but for having very well written and memorable songs. The music is all over the map stylistically demonstrating the bands love for everything from the pop punk and ska sounds of 311 and Sublime to Seattle grunge rock, to hip hop and reggae, and of course their love for the Beatles as a songwriting foundation is apparent. Having written some classic radio hits like “Copenhagen Girl”  “Psycho”, and “Parasite” the band played 200+ shows a year for many years, but the most meaningful song the band has ever written is “Angel Eyes” about the tragic loss of a dear friend. These days the band makes rare reunion appearances and consists of Tipper (Vocals, Guitar) Phil MacDowell (vocals, guitar) Tim Gaber (bass, vocals), Justin Sarra (keys, turntables), Ronnie Lavella (drums) and Juan Vasquez (guitar, vocals) The guys continue to bring the energy and the music that the loyal fans have known and loved for over a decade.

    About Marion Meadows:
    WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM

Marion was born in West Virginia and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. He began playing the clarinet and studying classical music at the age of nine.He started playing tenor sax in high school, and then migrated to soprano sax. His passion for various types of music led him down an eclectic musical path. He was intrigued by the styles of jazz musicians, like Stanley Turrentine,

Sidney Bichet, Johnny Hodges, John Coltrane, Sonny Stitt, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderley, Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Fortune, Joe Henderson, Grover Washington and many others. After studying jazz at Rippowam High School in Stamford, CT

with Anthony Truglia, Meadows attended Berklee College of Music. There he majored in arranging and composition. He later went to the SUNY Purchase School for the Arts. During his college years he played in a number of bands including disco, R&B and various jazz ensmbles. I got a lot of sideman jobs in college, and I have always said I got my real graduate degree playing clubs, says Meadows, who perfected his craft studying with Sonny Fortune, Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman and Eddie Daniels. “Not long after I finished school, (drummer) Norman Connors recorded one of my songs, “Invitation” and then asked me to join his band. I later produced his Passion album with my colleague Jacques Burvick (Aquarium Dream). Things just fell into place. Meadows first hit the airwaves in 1991 with “For Lovers Only”, but his career really began one day in the late ‘80s at New York’s Grand Central Station. He had been a sideman with Connors for three years, with only vague notions of eventually going solo. One day, while waiting for a train, he pulled out his horn and began playing under the huge dome. His sweet sound caught the attention of fellow traveler, producer and TV composer Jay Chattaway, who happened to be passing by on his way to the train. Chattaway was so impressed with Meadows’ sound that he hooked Meadows up with legendary keyboardist Bob James. Meadows and James collaborated on a recording that unfortunately went unreleased. The experience put him on the road to his eventual success. Meadows hooked up with numerous artists and musicians and became a well-known sideman in his own right, recording or performing over the years with Brook Benton, Eartha Kitt, Phyllis Hyman, Jean Carne, The Temptations, Michael Bolton, Angela Bofill, Will Downing, Bob Baldwin, Chuck Loeb, John Lee, among many others. About Brass Queens:
    WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | LISTEN

Brass Queens is a New York-based brass band that is female-led and features an all-female horn section. Finding that they shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in the city, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel came together to form a group dedicated to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dominated by male musicians and bandleaders.

After debuting in March 2019, Brass Queens grew to be a fixture in the New York music scene and was even dubbed "the hardest working band in town" by their peers. The Queens gained a dedicated following through busking on the streets of Brooklyn and playing pop-up events in tight-knit communities. Even the pandemic couldn't slow them down, as the band found ways to still bring music and joy to their fans during quarantine. Since then, Brass Queens has gone on to play iconic venues like Blue Note Jazz Club and Brooklyn Bowl, as well as major events like The Met Gala, Governor's Ball Music Festival, Exit Zero Jazz Festival, Good Morning America, and more.

Brass Queens has developed a signature sound that sits right at the intersection of the Big Apple and the Big Easy: their music is deeply inspired by and pays homage to the New Orleans brass band tradition while injecting the upbeat, multifaceted energy of their New York home into each performance. The result is a nonstop party: a Brass Queens show will have you singing along to classic pop hits, dancing your heart out to reggaeton, and feeling like you've been transported to Frenchman Street. In February 2021, Brass Queens released their debut EP Royal Street on all streaming platforms, and the band is currently working on their first full-length album.

About Mai Khôi and the Dissidents:
    WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | LISTEN

Mai Khôi founded Mai Khôi and the Dissidents in Vietnam in 2017 as a vehicle to perform her genre-busting songs protesting government censorship and police violence. The band performed secretly at underground shows in Hanoi until threats from the Vietnamese government forced the band to change their name, then ultimately dissolve. Following Khôi’s exile to the United States, she reformed the band with local Pittsburgh musicians while continuing the group’s radical mission. The American iteration of Mai Khôi and the Dissidents is an eclectic and experimental jazz-pop quintet that’s as likely to launch into a protest song or collective improvisation as a lullaby or love ballad. They have also toured Khôi’s multimedia stage show Bad Activist at high-profile venues in Pittsburgh, New York, and Las Vegas.

    About Kelsey / Brownie Mary:
    FACEBOOKLISTEN

Formed in 1993, Brownie Mary was one of Pittsburgh’s hot acts during the 1990s. The core members Kelsey Friday and Rich Jacques met in Bethany college in West Virginia and started off doing covers at the local bars, eventually becoming inspired to pen their own tunes.

The name Brownie Mary comes from a hospital volunteer named Mary Rathbun, who was arrested several times for handing out marijuana brownies to patients suffering from cancer and AIDS. Upon graduating they decided to take it seriously and move

to Pittsburgh.  There they linked up with bassist Mike Marks and drummer Steve Kaz and became regulars at local clubs like Graffiti, Nick’s Fat City, Rosebud as well as performing non stop on the east coast college circuit. The band had a loyal following in Pittsburgh, and their fan base soon stretched from Columbus to New York to Sarasota. Brownie Mary won top honors at the 1994 Graffiti Rock Challenge. The Graffiti victory, taken in competition against 100 of the freshest East Coast groups, earned the band Graffiti’s tag as the & Next Big Thing. They opened for Melissa Etheridge, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Dave Matthews Band, The Smithereens, The Crash Test Dummies, and Rusted Root. Brownie Mary also performed at 1995’s Saxophone Club DNC fund-raiser before an audience that included then President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea. They even had a presence on MTV, popping up on the occasional reality show. Churning out catchy pop tunes, Brownie Mary looked like a breakout group.

In 1994, Brownie Mary's debut came in the form of a self-released, 11-track CD called “That’s Me.” Although courted by several major labels, the group released the follow-up independently, too.

The result was an EP called “Who’s Your Daddy,” a title which, according to Friday, is based on an inside band joke. Most of the tracks are upbeat pop, with a couple of folky cuts. The driving force is Barber’s vocals, circling around a heavy groove.

In 1997 with the support of a large enthusiastic fan base in the east coast tri-state region Brownie Mary was signed to Atlantic’s Blackbird/Sire label Brownie Mary released their major label debut in 1998. The album was produced by Kevin Moloney who worked with Sinead O’Connor and U2. The band was being compared to other alt pop groups like The Cranberries, The Pretenders, and No Doubt.

They got plenty of national airplay with “Naked,” and toured like madmen in its support, playing 250 dates in the twelve months following its release with artists including the Dave Matthew’s Band, Fuel, and Greenday.

Finally after 7 years together they felt it had run it’s current course and Jacques and Friday went on to do their own things the last official Brownie Mary show was New Years eve 2000 performing with Veruca Salt in Columbus OH.

About David Jacobs-Strain & Bob Beach:
    WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | LISTEN

"David Jacobs-Strain and Bob Beach blew me away last summer at Swannanoa. As we say at home, they knocked my hat in the creek.  I can’t envision the audience that could fail to take to them from the first chord and to the last. Hear them yourself as soon as you can”. -Tom Paxton

David Jacobs-Strain is a fierce slide guitar player, and a song poet from Oregon. He is known for both his virtuosity and spirit of emotional abandon. David displays a range that ties him to his own generation and to guitar-slinger troubadours like Robert Johnson and Jackson Browne.  “I try to make art that you can dance to, but I love that darker place, where in my mind, Skip James, Nick Drake, and maybe Elliot Smith blur together.”
David tours with Bob Beach on Harmonica. Their live show moves from humorous, subversive blues, to delicate balladry, and then swings back to swampy rock and roll. David & Bob have performed many times at music festivals and taught at camps around the country to include: Philadelphia Folk Festival, Juan de Fuca, Strawberry Festival, Redding Roots, Bear Creek (Ca), Falcon Ridge and Kate Wolf

About Tom Breiding & Wil Kondrich:
Singer/songwriter (and working rock guitarist) Tom Breiding has been creating a sub-genre of Americana for decades. A celebrated writer, Breiding focuses on the true heart and soul of America and its working class. Tom is joined by Union Railroad bandmate/guitarist Wil Kondrich, an artist in his own right, steeped in the tradition of the great Steeltown rockers.
