    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The StepCrew is a dynamic dance production combining three styles of percussive dance — Irish, Tap, and Ottawa Valley — in a fully realized theatrical setting.

This amazing company is led by Cara Butler and Pilatzke brothers, Jon and Nathan. Butler is best known as The Chieftains’ top Irish dancer for the last three decades, while the Pilatzkes are undoubtedly Canada’s leading and most exciting Ottawa Valley Step dancers. Accompanied by some of the most virtuosic musicians from the Celtic, traditional and rock genres, The StepCrew achieves the ultimate balance of respecting traditional forms of dance while creating exciting modern fusions never seen or heard before. As a member of the audience, you’re sure to be on your feet!

The show takes audiences on a journey through varying arrays of textures – high energy dance, haunting vocals, groovy music and many moments of unique dance display involving everything from complicated choreography to comical usage of props. The StepCrew was designed to boast not only the complex displays of grandiose staging and musicality, but also the pure talents of solo performers with nothing more than their feet, instruments and voices to reach their audience. There can be an aura of competition between the dancers – times when they are trying to outdo the other – but the overall concept of The StepCrew is one of unity.

Three styles of percussive dance come together to produce one unique amalgamation which encompasses the characteristics of all three forms. Two of the dancers are also nationally acclaimed fiddlers. While the beautiful vocals maintain a Celtic voice element, they also provide a wonderful and dramatic contrast to the rhythmic pulse of the show.

Performance highlights are grounded and connected by one of the top musical ensembles in today’s professional circuit, offering up original musical arrangements in everything from the bluesy origins of tap dancing to traditional Irish and Scottish music, to modern day Celtic fusion. There is something for every enthusiast in The StepCrew.

The Peking Acrobats perform daring manoeuvres atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting and gymnastics. They are often accompanied by live musicians who skillfully play traditional Chinese instruments. The time-honored Chinese music coalesces with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats, creating an exuberant entertainment event with the festive pageantry of a Chinese carnival.

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy takes its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French kings. The group, which has a core membership of 15 players, was brought together in 1984 by Founding Conductor Bernard Labadie and continues under Music Director Jonathan Cohen to specialize in the vast repertoire of music for chamber orchestra.

Using copies of period bows on modern instruments, the ensemble plays works from the Baroque and Classical period with an approach strongly influenced by current research into performance practice in the 17th and 18th centuries. The orchestra also regularly delves into the repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Les Violons du Roy is at the heart of the music scene in Quebec City and a regular feature on the Montreal cultural calendar. The orchestra is known throughout North America thanks to the many broadcasts of its concerts and recordings on CBC, Radio-Canada and NPR. The ensemble makes regular visits to New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles, and has performed in South Korea, China and dozens of times in Europe at such legendary venues as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Berlin Philharmonie.

Les Violons du Roy’s discography boasts 36 titles, including three Juno Award–winning albums and one Félix Award winner. Twelve recordings have appeared on the Dorian label, and 11 under the ATMA label. The ensemble has also released four albums on Virgin Classics, now Erato/Warner Classics, with soloists Vivica Genaux, Truls Mork and Alexandre Tharaud, respectively. It has also made recordings with Marie-Nicole Lemieux (Naïve), Marc-André Hamelin (Hyperion), Valérie Milot (Analekta), Anthony Roth Costanzo (Decca Gold), Charles Richard-Hamelin (Analekta) and with Diane Dufresne.
