    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Launched in August of 2020, Tuesday Casual Collaborations at 185 King Street has become a cornerstone of the vibrant Brevard music community. Every week Travis Book assembles a unique group of musicians for a one-time-only show, drawing on his vast network of friends and growing repertoire of musical styles. From Bluegrass to Blues, Songwriter to Americana, Country to Funk, Travis and his ever-evolving cast of local and national (even international) musicians consistently hit the sweet spot between preparation and spontaneity. “Eventually, I hope to play with everyone!” he occasionally boasts, and he’s well on his way. Travis has hosted a wide range of musicians, including: Anders Beck, Nicki Bluhm, Josh Daniel, Beppe Gambetta, Mike Guggino, Vince Herman, Sierra Hull, Cris Jacobs, Jim Lauderdale, Lindsay Lou, Steve McMurry, Mimi Naja, Tim O’Brien, Woody Platt, Jon Stickley, Kyle Tuttle, and Cristina Vane. He also regularly employs the skills of world-class local musicians like Jeff Sipe, Mike Ashworth, Tommy Maher, Bennett Sullivan, and Derick Gardner. Every week is unique, the musical styles wide-ranging, but the one thing that remains constant is the intention, positivity, and charisma that Travis brings to each and every show.

As a founding member and co- leader of the Austin, TX rock and roll outfit The Band of

Heathens, Ed Jurdi’s voice, songwriting and musicianship have been key elements in

defining the band’s kaleidoscopic American sound. From festival performances at

Bonnaroo, Austin, City Limits, Lollapalooza, Wakarusa, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass to

over a thousand one nighters in clubs and theaters across the United States and Europe, Ed

Jurdi has been a fixture in the Americana world and beyond for the better part of two

    decades.

Originally from the Boston area, Ed Jurdi has forged a sound both rooted in the past and

pointing toward the future. An ardent student of the masters of American music, he brings

the passion of a gospel sermon and juxtaposes it against a gathering of merry pranksters

with a soulful delivery and timeless voice. Ed has called Asheville and the mountains of

Western North Carolina home for the better part of a decade after spending eight years in

    Austin, TX.

So when the stage is set, the lights go dark, and Ed and Gordy take the stage, grab your

drink, find your seat and settle in to witness the distilling of this rare musical brotherhood.

Ed will be joined by Graham Sharp of Steep Canyon Rangers and Amanda Platt of Amanda Anne Platt & the Honeycutters.  That's an incredible amount of songwriting talent on one stage.

Virtuoso musician Eric Congdon is one of Western North Carolinas  most engaging and popular artists.  Voted #1 Guitarist in Mountain XPress, his amazing musicianship always thrills audiences no matter what he's playing.   He will be playing several Thursdays throughout the season with different featured guests each week.  This week he will be joined by Hope Griffin.

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Hope Griffin was literally born into music. Surrounded by a musical family, she began singing and performing when she was very young. Hope first got turned onto the idea of writing her own music when she received a guitar at age 17. She attended Carson-Newman University and went on to receive a Bachelors degree in classical voice. It was there that her true flair for songwriting developed. Hope’s drive to perform her original works was launched after winning a songwriters contest in college in 2007. She eventually moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she began introducing her angelic vocals and folky lyrics into the music scene.

The Pinkerton Raid’s songwriter Jesse James DeConto hails from New England, with dad’s guitar and mom’s radio tuned to Soulsville, The Village, Liverpool and Laurel Canyon, now mining foothills-folk in Durham, N.C., for songs AMERICANA-UK calls “anthemic.” With a new winter covers EP in 2023, the band has been sharing festival stages with artists like Watchhouse, River Whyless, Sunny War and The Bones of JR Jones. “A sound for dreamers around a campfire."

    Lillie Syracuse:
In velvet streams of joy, grief, and love, Lillie Syracuse’s voice and music fill the golden spaces of the in between. It is in these spaces that Lillie explores the stunning complexities and heart-scapes of the human experience.  For a decade, Lillie honed her craft in Nashville, TN, where she wrote and released her debut album Coming Up Diamonds in 2020, with producer and Grammy-nominated drummer Mike Marsh (The Avett Brothers, Dashboard Confessional).  It was growing up in Pumpkintown, SC, the cradle of Table Rock Mountain, where Lillie’'s heart was woven from the forests’ moss-covered trees, waterfalls, birdsong, and red mountain clay. The Appalachian Mountains have now called Lillie home. She lives in Brevard, NC where she writes and records new music for release in 2023.  Lillie's hope in song-craft is to foster shifts towards deeper self-love, acceptance, and magic in the lives of those who hear her music.

    The Dirty French Broads:
An endearing string band from the Appalachian mountains, The Dirty French Broads pick a few shades apart from the established Americana and Bluegrass scenes, bringing smoky ballads and boot stomping cut-a-rugs with the energy of a thousand golden retriever puppies seeing their first snowfall. Gracing the stage with a fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, this lively crew’s spirited performances and genuine ability to connect are a breath of fresh air in a world of big box stores and oatmeal raisin cookies.

Lillie Syracuse will start the show off, followed by the Dirty French Broads and then The Pinkerton Raid

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Music’s elders and icons established the initial template for Rock ‘n’ Roll, but it’s the newer generation that
keeps it thriving and moving forward. So credit the Kenny George Band for doing exactly that. Comprised of
Kenny George (lead guitar, vocals, songwriter), Randy Borawski (drums, harmony vocals), Center Ely (steel
guitar), and Brooks Andrews (bass) this hardworking ensemble has earned their stripes the hard way.
Performing an average of 100 shows per year throughout the heartland, they bring their music to the masses
    one gig at a time.
“Our goal has always been to connect with our audiences,” George insists. “Our music is honest and organic,
and we deliberately avoid pretense. We may seem like a ragtag bunch, but there’s a passion, purpose and
sincerity that underscores everything we do, and hopefully that’s apparent even the first time you hear us play.”
The group can further be described as a country, southern rock and folk band, owing as much to Waylon and
Willie as they do modern archetypes such as Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.
Hailing from Aiken, South Carolina, the Kenny George Band has created an indelible impression with fans
throughout the Southeast and Midwest. They’ve traveled the highways and byways between North and South
Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Missouri, reconnecting with
their fervent followers and picking up new fans along the way.

Born in the soul-basted countryside of Alabama, then brought to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains to marinade and mature, Red Clay Revival delivers an experience that continues to reshape the parameters of roots music with skillful, heart-driven compositions. Bandleader and songsmith extraordinaire, Doug McElvy, lays a solid foundation at the epicenter of Red Clay’s musical magnitude. The band’s high energy shows are filled with slam-grass/bluegrass breaks, with a rock feel; it’s an entertaining performance sure to get the crowd moving regardless of musical taste.

“I love this band! These musicians carve an irresistible groove that always gets the party started. Doug Mcelvy is an authentic, soulful powerhouse of a vocalist and songwriter, not to mention a world class fly fisherman! Fishin and pickin- what could be better?!” says flatpicking legend Larry Keel and bassist Jenny Keel, "Doug McElvy and his Red Clay Revival render a rootsy blend of folk rock foundation and inventive yet catchy lyrics. It's earthy and fun music with dark overtones too.”

For this show Travis will be joined by bandmate, Andy Falco and they will be playing the music of Jerry Garcia.  Andy Falco and Travis Book are both members of the Grammy
award winning bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters.
Inspired by their love of the music of Jerry Garcia, the duo branches
off on their own for occasional tours to celebrate Garcia’s timeless
    songs.
“The project actually originated back stage at ‘Dusters shows where
Travis and I would typically warm up with some fun Jerry songs”
Falco explains. “At some point we just thought it would be fun to
    do it in public”
They draw from Garcia’s solo material, his Grateful Dead catalogue
as well as the Traditional songs Jerry loved to play.
“Performing this music as a duo allows us to explore the songs and
jam in a way that’s unique to playing as a Duo” Says Book. “We
typically hear these songs in larger ensembles, but the songs done
with just bass and guitar somehow make the music very interactive
with the audience. It’s really a testament to the quality of the
songwriting, and we like to put a spotlight on that aspect of Jerry.”

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Virtuoso musician Eric Congdon is one of Western North Carolinas  most engaging and popular artists.  Voted #1 Guitarist in Mountain XPress, his amazing musicianship always thrills audiences no matter what he's playing.   He will be playing several Thursdays throughout the season with different featured guests each week.  This week he will be joined by Jackson Dulaney.

Jackson Dulaney currently resides in Asheville, NC where he is an involved member of the diverse music community. He has studied in various facets of music, from the Berklee College of Music in Boston to eclectic-niche-guitar-gatherings such as ResoSummit in Nashville.

Growing up around a vast collection of American roots music profoundly influenced his early relation with the guitar. “There was a framed rack of 400 cassette tapes over my parents bed growing up; I definitely stole a lot of music from my dad as a kid….Ry Cooder, Little Feat, old blues records. He’d sneak me into clubs to see Derek Trucks on week nights in middle school. ” As a teenager Dulaney would discover a natural love for slide, steel, and square-neck resophonic guitars in various scale lengths, string tensions, and tunings.

With versatility and adaptiveness, Dulaney’s strengths lay in the power of his subtleties and discerning attention to detail.  He has shared the stage with over 2 dozen bands and can currently be seen performing with The Blood Gypsies as well as The Aaron Burdett Band and a host of other friends throughout the southeast.

“I’m looking for those in-between notes; the ones that make you feel like you’ve got mashed potatoes between your toes…”

At the core of musical creativity is the simple, unending urge for exploration and discovery. It’s being able to hold onto your childlike wonder and eternal curiosity, all of which lies at the start of any new chapter of melodic space to inhabit. For singer/keyboardist Joe May, it’s being able to balance a deep passion for record producing and live music improvisation, both encompassing the magic of one’s own natural talents and fearlessness to experiment — onstage and in the studio.

Though most folks recognize May from his work behind the keys for rising Charlotte, North Carolina, jam/funk outfit Pluto Gang, May’s debut solo album, “No Party By That Name,” conjures the deep, fundamental influences he regards with awe and perspective. With “No Party By That Name” soon to be released, May is already hard at work on the follow up, this well of inspiration currently overflowing from his heart and soul, through his fingertips and onto the keyboard.

The Andrew Thelston Band, voted #1 favorite rock band in the 2023 Best of WNC contest by Mountain Xpress, has been stunning audiences in the WNC region (and beyond) for 5 years. Frontman Thelston, voted #1 best guitarist in the same competition, is the creative force, bringing high-energy, funk-infused original rock n’ roll that draws influence from Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, and Queen. In 2019, Thelston’s original music was featured on the hit Netflix show “Lucifer.” Thelston is widely known for his guitar virtuosity and soaring vocals, and leads the 4-piece band with a dynamic stage presence. Bassist Roddy Wilder and drummer Jeff Lott create a rock solid rhythm for Thelston’s guitar and vocals. Singer-songwriter/keyboardist Carrie Morrison fills out the band’s sound with powerhouse vocals and technical prowess

“Guitar-heavy rock that takes in late 1960s psychedelia, blues influenced solos, and occasional nods to acoustic folk, all tied together by Thelston’s earnest, emotional vocals”-Greenville Journal

“In terms of musical ambassadors within the melodic melting pot of a scene that is Western North Carolina, you’d be hard-pressed to find an artist as dedicated and inclusive as that of Andrew Thelston.”- Garret K. Woodard Smoky Mountain News

    Lewendahl:
Lewendahl delivers smooth RnB vocals with funky instrumentation combining a joyous pairing of juicy licks with subtle nods to the soulful stylings of Cory Wong, HER, and Leon Bridges. And this RnB, Neo-Soul and Rock inspiration came from founders Laura and Tim Levene’s shared love of classic Motown and Soul music.

The two gigged extensively as a guitar and piano duo in the Hendersonville and Asheville region, before adding bassist and Brevard native Derek Sandlin. Sandlin’s gospel and soul roots immediately brought  a unique depth and passion to Lewendahl’s stylings. The band also brought on the wildly talented multi-instrumentalist and percussionist Jason DeCristofaro, who famously hosts the Jason DeCristofaro’s 21st Century Music Series at the Cedar Mountain Canteen.

Lewendahl debuts the group’s first single “Colours” on March 15, with their first album planned for release in early May.

This evenings show is a Happy Hour special which means there will be an interview of the featured guest, Jospeh Terrell, during the show.

Joseph grew up in a big Quaker family in the North Carolina Piedmont. He’s spent the last ten years writing and singing with folk band Mipso.

“To call a howl “good for nothing” is a compliment. all of the best howls are.

i got a howl stuck in my head a few years ago when i started noticing the trees. somehow they'd escaped my imagination since i was a kid in the woods. i welcomed them back. sycamores in particular captured my attention. their bark is a cousin to skin. i learned there are sixty-two types of oaks in north carolina. the water oak is my favorite. its waxy teardrops droop over creeks. i thought a good bit about hackberry and greenbriar, too, and when summer ended i fell in love with goldenrod. it felt good to pay attention. they had been there all along.

i was moving around a lot at the time. i crashed with barry and susan, spent a while in alex and caroline's basement.  i quit trying to write all together, quit playing for a while too. then at the beginning of spring i started dragging a chair under a tree in the yard. wherever i was i would try to spend the morning outside with a guitar. i found a lot of songs that way, like they were already there, waiting for me to sing them out loud. i hope that sounds as strange as it felt.

The innovative “klezgrass” music of Zoe & Cloyd springs from the rich traditions and complementary styles of fiddler/vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist John Cloyd Miller. Descending from a lineage of klezmer and jazz musicians, Natalya trained classically in her home state of Massachusetts before moving south in 2004. John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and the Hazel Dickens Songwriting Contest. Based in Asheville, NC, Zoe & Cloyd delight audiences with soaring harmonies and heartfelt songwriting, seamlessly combining original bluegrass, klezmer, old-time and folk with sincerity and zeal.

In 2023, Zoe & Cloyd released their fifth studio album on Organic Records, entitled Songs of Our Grandfathers. The project is an homage to their respective bluegrass and klezmer roots and has been enthusiastically received with feature articles in Bluegrass UnlimitedNo Depression and the Bluegrass Situation. Also in 2023, Zoe & Cloyd performed at numerous events including Bluegrass Omagh in Northern Ireland, the Earl Scruggs Music Festival, the NC Folk Festival, and will host A Swannanoa Solstice at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in Asheville.
