The West Wing Effect: 25 years of Impact on Political Discourse

Monday, March 11, 2024    7:30 pm EST  Hall Auditorium

Bradley Whitford gained fame on NBC’s The West Wing as Josh Lyman, which earned him his first Emmy award in 2001. A classically trained stage actor, he went on to win Emmys in 2015 and 2019 for his work in Transparent and The Handmaid’s Tale.  He looks forward to getting back to Gilead for The Handmaid’s Tale’s sixth and final season in 2024.  In 2021, Whitford starred in the Old Vic’s production of A Christmas Carol at the Ahmanson in Los Angeles as “Ebenezer Scrooge” and this year played the scene-stealing “Narrator” there in the hit farce Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

MIAMI UNIVERSITY STEEL BAND 30th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
    Saturday, April 20, 2024   7:30 pm
    Hall Auditorium
    Adults $8    Seniors/Students/Youth $5

The Miami University Steel Band will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a gala concert on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The concert will feature both current members of the ensemble, as well as alumni performers who will present an entire set of music on their own. The concert will culminate with current members and alumni combining to perform Ray Holman’s “Pan Woman,” a high-energy contest piece from Trinidad and Tobago’s annual Panorama competition. The performance will also include several new compositions from the group’s director, Chris Tanner.

Tanner, a professor and former Chair of the Department of Music, founded the Steel Band in 1994 as a graduate assistant. The original ensemble included ten members, while today the Steel Band program at Miami comprises two distinct groups (Beginner and Advanced) with a combined enrollment of over fifty students. Over a 30-year span, the ensemble has released five studio recordings, presented at professional conferences, and performed locally and regionally in concerts, performing arts series, and in the community at various festivals and summer outdoor venues. Please join us in celebrating this wonderful milestone in the life of the Miami University Steel Band.
