Mortified Doomed Valentine's
8:00pm - $25 - All Ages
Love is in the air and it smells like teen spirit. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with laughter as adults share their childhood and adolescent love-themed diary entries, sappy poetry, and love letters at Mortified DC on Saturday, February 11th, 8:00pm.
Hailed a "cultural phenomenon" by Newsweek and celebrated by This American Life, Entertainment Weekly, Time, Wired, The AV Club, The Today Show (twice), and beyond, Mortified celebrates stories revealed through the strange and extraordinary things we created as kids.
Since 2002, Mortified has been curating teen angst artifacts from people like you. The project began when founder David Nadelberg discovered an unsent love letter he wrote us as a teenager. The letter sparked an idea and he sent an email to friends asking if anyone wanted to share their childhood writings on stage. That email went viral and soon, responses poured in from strangers near and far. Over a decade later, what started with a single letter transformed into a movement that included a range of participants (ad execs, architects, stand-ups, salesmen, writers, receptionists, actors, and attorneys) excited to "share the shame" from LA to DC to Amsterdam. We encourage people everywhere - even those with no interest in appearing on stage - to unearth the strange stuff they created as kids and share them with at least one person. You'd be surprised what you discover in the process.

Her latest single, Naked in Manhattan is her first independent release, and the latest in her collaboration with writer/producer Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Grey, Caroline Polachek). Hailed as "a queer girl bop that simultaneously captures the electricity of having your first crush and the playfulness of coming-of-age exuberance… with delicate, yearning synths and floating falsetto that transition into a unbridled, beat-heavy release,” by NPR, it continues her musical path that was first defined by her previous single, Pink Pony Club, in anticipation of her latest single, Casual, out now!

The Dandy Warhols
7:30pm - $35 adv / $38 DOS - All Ages
THE DANDY WARHOLS
Portland, OR
https://www.dandywarhols.com/
Combining psych-rock, shoegaze, power pop, synth pop and more with the cheeky detachment of their pop-art namesake, the Dandy Warhols are equally skilled at heady reveries and satirical pop. Early on, they scored hits with "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth" (from their 1997 major label debut, The Dandy Warhols Come Down) and "Bohemian Like You" (from 2001's Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia), both of which skewered hipster culture with a wit that suggested they were America's answer to Brit-pop. Later in the 2000s, they dabbled in synth-pop on 2003's Welcome to the Monkey House and indulged their excesses on 2005's sprawling Odditorium or Warlords of Mars. Though more restrained efforts such as 2016's Distortland suggested the Dandy Warhols might be mellowing out in their third decade, 2019's freewheeling Why You So Crazy proved they were committed to keeping their listeners guessing.

HARU NEMURI
Japan
http://www.harunemuri.love/
HARU NEMURI is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and poetry rapper who had always made music for herself first, but now the world is listening—even if they can’t understand a word of the Japanese language in which she sings, raps and frequently screams. Haru has built a dedicated following thanks to extensive touring in Japan and other parts of Asia, and sold out numerous shows in Europe on her first trip there in 2019, which included a performance at the legendary Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona. “In any region of the world, there are some things people can’t express in words, and sometimes even after writing lyrics, there are other feelings that I have left in me,” she says. “That’s when it’s time to shout. If people feel connected and supported by that, I’m really happy about it.”

Riverside + The Cyberiam Duo
7:00pm - $30 adv / $35 DOS - All Ages
RIVERSIDE
Warsaw, Poland
https://riversideband.pl/en/
Throughout over 20 years, this Warsaw-based Polish band have released seven studio, a few live, and two mini albums. Their music, inspired by Pink Floyd, Rush and Porcupine Tree, has evolved towards their own characteristic, recognisable style. Riverside's eighth studio album called "ID.Entity" will be out on January 20th, 2023.
"Before we started working on the new album, I asked myself a few questions," says Mariusz Duda, the leader of the band. "Some personal ones, some about the current times, but most of all, questions about the band, for instance, 'What is our strongest suit?' There were two answers: 'Melodies and… live performances!' 'What is the most comfortable setting for Riverside?' Again, the answer was pretty obvious: 'the stage'. Ironically, we haven't really spoilt our fans with live releases, so I thought perhaps it was time to record a studio album which would musically reflect the character and dynamic of our live shows. Especially that we really wanted to say goodbye to the decade of sadness and melancholy, which dominated our recent releases."
What will Riverside's most live studio album sound like... live? Let's get ready for double impact!
