Spurred by the spectacle of a circus tent that goes up outside his Oakland apartment, a disabled filmmaker launches into a meditative journey exploring the history of freakdom, vision, and (in)visibility. Shot entirely from director Reid Davenport's physical perspective – mounted to his wheelchair or handheld – the film serves as an unequivocal rebuke to the norm of disabled people being seen and not heard. I Didn’t See You There expands on the tradition of point-of-view cinema by incorporating a disabled aesthetic generated through Davenport's own embodiment. Directed by Reid Davenport Running Time: 1 hour, 16 minutes. Followed by Post-Show Q & A with Filmmaker

With the swagger of unapologetic Indianness, organizers of the American Indian Movement (AIM) fought in the 1970s for Native liberation as a community of extended families. Warrior Women is the story of Madonna Thunder Hawk, who shaped a kindred group of activists' children – including her daughter Marcy – into the "We Will Remember" Survival School as a Native alternative to government-run education.  The film explores what it means to balance a movement with motherhood and how activist legacies are passed down from generation to generation in the face of a government that has continually met Native resistance with mass violence. In celebration of National Women’s History Month. Directed by Dr. Elizabeth Castle and Christina D. King Running Time: 64 minutes. Followed by Post-Show Q & A with Dr. Castle.

Asian Americans endure some of the highest rates of mental distress, and yet, are also among the least likely to seek help for it. The stigma surrounding mental illness within the community, in conjunction with the discrimination and racial-profiling faced outside of it, are all part of what makes mental health an intersectional – and pressing – issue for Asian Americans. Silent War features multiple members of this community highlighting the unique challenges they face as Asian Americans and the unspoken toll it takes on all. Directed by Dr. Changfu Chang Running Time: 1 hour, 25 minutes. Followed by Post-Show Q & A with Filmmaker

City Paper’s “Jazz Percussionist of the Year” six years in a row, his most recent recording, Bright Eyes, debuted at #5 on the iTunes Top 40 Jazz Charts and was met with praise from The Washington Post, Downbeat Magazine, and Jazz Times.
