-------------------
Born to a South African father and a mother from New York in the very last year of the
millennium. Raised on The Carpenters, Green Day, and 80s New Wave. Her music inspiration
first occurred at six years old when she heard the haunting piano melody in “My Immortal” by
Evanescence during a five-hour plane ride as she played it repeatedly. She immediately begged
her parents for piano lessons and her musical journey began, usually practicing at five in the
morning before school each day much to her parents' dismay.

Life changed when her family bought the game Rockband for Xbox. After mastering the drums
to The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ "Dani California” on Expert Mode, Elise was determined to
convince her parents that she now needed drum lessons. Honing her musical skills through The
School of Rock and playing in her high school jazz band and the hard work of 10,000+ hours of
practicing, Elise has built a massive fanbase through her self-produced YouTube videos, social
media platforms and touring both as a solo looping artist and with her band. She has performed
on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and shot a video for the Amazon Prime Academy Award nominated
picture “The Sound of Metal” which also featured Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and Paul
Raci, co-star of the movie.

Recently, Elise had the honor of writing songs with Andy Summers from The Police and playing
drums in Seals band. Elise is currently writing with some of the top writers in Nashville and Los
Angeles as she is working towards her first full album release planned for early 2022.

---------------------

Breaking the Balls of History is Quasi’s tenth record, landing ten years after their last record, on

February tenth. Three tens, which aligns with the thirty years they’ve played together. Sam

Coomes and Janet Weiss have become Pacific Northwest icons, and Quasi has always felt so

steadfast— their enduring friendship so generative, their energy infinite, each album more

raucous and catchy and ferocious and funny than the last. But we were wrong to ever take

Quasi for granted. For a while, they thought 2013’s intricate Mole City might be their last

record. They’d go out on a great one and move on.

Then in August 2019 a car smashed into Janet’s and broke both legs and her collarbone. Then a

deadly virus collided with all of us, and no one knew when or if live music as we knew it—the

touring, the communal crowds, the sonic church of the dark club—would ever happen again.

“There’s no investing in the future anymore,” Janet realized. “The future is now. Do it now if

you want to do it. Don’t put it off. All those things you only realize when it’s almost too late. It

could be gone in a second.”

Under lockdown, Portland’s streets fell still, airplanes vanished, wildlife emerged. And with the

obliterated normal came an unexpected gift: uninterrupted time, hours every day, to make art.

Quasi couldn’t go on the road, so they got an idea: they would act as if they were on tour and

play together every single day. Each afternoon, Sam and Janet bunkered down in their tiny

practice space and channeled the bewilderment and absurdity of this alien new world into

songs. Janet’s strength returned and rose to athlete-level stamina. “When you’re younger and

in a band, you make records because that’s what you do,” Sam said. “But this time, the whole

thing felt purposeful in a way that was unique to the circumstances.” They knew they would

keep it to just the two of them playing together in a room. They knew they’d record the songs

live and together, to capture a moment.

The incredible result of those sessions is Breaking the Balls of History, recorded in five days and

produced by John Goodmanson at the legendary Robert Lang Studios in Shoreline, WA. Here

are two artists at their prime, each a human library of musical knowledge and experience,

entirely distinctive in their songcraft and sound. In Quasi-form, the band becomes alchemically

even greater than the sum of its parts: Janet’s galloping drums and Sam’s punk-symphonic

Rocksichord and their intertwining vocals make something gigantic, anthemic. In the thick of a

cataclysmic social and political moment, they’ve crafted exquisitely melodic songs that glitter

with rage and wild humor and intelligence, driven by a big bruised pounding heart.

------------

Before the pandemic struck, Ezra Collective were on fire. A world tour awaited them following years

of hard graft, the critically acclaimed release of their 2019 debut album You Can’t Steal My Joy, and

an explosive Glastonbury performance that brought UK jazz to unseen heights. “Then a big pause

button was pressed,” says Femi Koleoso, the drummer and bandleader. Ezra had been touring

relentlessly for more than half-a-decade, stopping only occasionally to record. “The pandemic was

how we entered this transition phase,” he continues.

Ezra Collective’s new era, a venture in discovered maturity and raised stakes, will be defined by the

anticipated second album. Where I’m Meant To Be is a thumping celebration of life, an affirming

elevation in the Ezra Collective’s winding hybrid sound and refined collective character. The songs

marry cool confidence with bright energy. Full of call-and-response conversations between their

ensemble parts, a natural product of years improvising together on-stage, the album - which also

features Sampa The Great, Kojey Radical, Emile Sande and Nao - will light up sweaty dance floors

and soundtrack summer dinners in equal measure.

The group - consisting of Femi (who also drums for Gorillaz) as drummer and bandleader, Joe

Armon-Jones on keys, James Mollison on saxophone, Ife Ogunjobi on trumpet, and Femi’s younger

brother TJ on bass guitar - originally came together in 2012 as teenagers at the youth band of

Tomorrow’s Warriors, a music education initiative at the South Bank Centre in London. They have

since shot forward to become architects of a new phase in their city’s musical journey, a hybrid time

in which Black genres - jazz, grime, afrobeat and more - can dovetail and harmonize fluidly, at new,

forever rising levels.

ADI OASIS

Live in the Ballroom - SHOW MOVED TO THE INDEPENDENT SF
Wednesday March 29, 2023 - Doors @ 7pm

------------------

French-Caribbean singer, bassist and producer Adi Oasis fuses soul, jazz, funk and R&B to form her own distinctive, retro-futurist sound.

After spending time honing her skills in other people’s bands, Adi struck out on her own in 2018, releasing an album and 2 EPs since then, while also collaborating with the likes of Masego, Blue Lab Beats, Chet Faker, the Shapeshifters, Pastel, Wax Tailor, Jean Tonique and others. Writing and producing under the moniker Nightshade with her partner Morgan Wiley (Midnight Magic, Jessica 6), her production credits also including the sun-drenched summer jam “Mango” for Atlantic Records artist Kamauu

Her most recent EP, Adi Oasis, featured the single “Whisper My Name,” leading to a stunning COLORS debut in early 2021, and garnering critical praise from outlets ranging from Vogue to Rolling Stone, Wonderland, Line of Best Fit and many others. Now the artist formerly known as Adeline has released her first new single as Adi Oasis, teaming up with the critically acclaimed Jamila Woods for “Red to Violet,” her most personal music to date.

Exploring self-identity through socio-political touchpoints, Adi and guest assist Jamila Woods masterfully permeate the laid-back track with charged discussion surrounding authenticity, family and power, which only enhances the groove-laden music. Continuing to make a delightful feature of her signature slapped bass lines and honeyed vocals, this latest single showcases Adi Oasis as her most authentic self. Now confident and comfortable under her true moniker, this year’s forthcoming album promises to bring more captivating music from Adi Oasis.

Adi Oasis also recently announced the formation of Nightshade, her production outfit with partner Morgan Wiley (Midnight Magic, Jessica 6). For their first foray as producers, they co-wrote and produced the sun-drenched hit “Mango” for Atlantic Records artist Kamauu, which also features Adi singing and playing bass.
