You show up at a bar or music venue. You grab a drink and within minutes you’re singing the hell out of your favorite rock song with a hundred other folks and - wait for it - a live band of nationally known musicians. In three-part harmony, no less!

Wait, what just happened?

Welcome to the Low Bar Chorale and what we all not-so-secretly wish singing could be.

We’re drop-in only: no auditions, rehearsals or commitments ever. We sing rock, alt-indie and pop music like Bowie, Lady Gaga, Yacht Rock, or Michael Kiwanuka. We’ve got an incredible band, and we’ve performed with some amazing acts - Built To Spill, Portugal. The Man, Storm Large, and others.

The best thing is that ANYONE CAN DO THIS. No prior musical experience required. Just show up with your love of music and an open mind, and we guarantee you’ll sound great.

So if this sounds like something you’d love, what are you waiting for?

Clawfoot Slumber

Dreamed into being by Alex Callenberger and Erin LaCerra circa 2010, indie art-rock band Clawfoot Slumber delivers alluring soundscapes that are easy to slip into and impossible to forget. Accompanied by a thoroughly heavy hitting ensemble, the band is currently performing songs from their latest album, "Crushing Reality". Ever true to their name, Clawfoot Slumber captivates audiences with their exhilarating builds, driving-attacks and moments of slumber-esque ambience.

Twin Bridges

Twin Bridges is the solo work of Zach Gerzon, a Portland, Oregon based cellist. Twin Bridges is a blend of singer songwriter, cello driven songs, and live looped instrumentals.

Crowey

What began as the solo project of Joey Binhammer (Die Geister Beschwören, Elektrokraken, Meeping, Whales Wailing), Crowey has grown into a psychedelic/folk soundscape project and collaboration between Joey and Kate Kilbourne Mordecai, June Rose Band, Sweeping Exits). Both multi-instrumentalists from Portland, OR, the duo crafts sweeping vistas of finger-style guitar, strings and vocal harmonies, exploring the deep well of human emotion and finding beauty in its darkest crevices. Layers of intricate orchestration evoke the sound of moving clouds.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

What the Cat Dragged In is a trivia night, an open mic and an all around Damned Fine Time. Rounds of trivia are interspersed by sets of 2-3 songwriters sharing one song each while trivia scores are tallied. The event runs on Wednesdays (except for the first Wednesday of the month – go visit your grandma instead) from 6-9pm at Show Bar. The songwriter's open mic will be a lightning-round-robin style each night, shaped by the number of sign-ups as well as the theme for the trivia. The trivia will largely be culled from pop culture (music, film/television, literature, and random pop culture ephemera). Each week will have a theme which will inform both the trivia questions and the performances (should the musicians be so bold). So come on down to Show Bar at Revolution Hall and get in on this one-of-a-kind event.

Alien Boy

Dreams and Queer Feeling. A slogan, a mission statement; maybe a bit of “don’t say we didn’t warn you”—spray-painted in white on black canvas and hung behind the band during a memorable series of 2018 shows, those four words distill the thrill of an Alien Boy set with a directness that perfectly mirrors their fearlessly sentimental guitar music. Though Sonia Weber is often singing about the insecurities and confusion of love and heartbreak, Alien Boy songs overflow with the confidence of a band that knows exactly what they’re going for, and knows that they’re nailing it.

That embrace of both the miniscule and the massive perhaps best describes the emotional resonance that lodges Alien Boy songs in your brian for weeks on end. In advance of the record, [Sleeping Lessons] a glowing profile in local alt rag The Portland Mercury noted how “Alien Boy fosters a radical intimacy with their audience.” No one who’s seen the band live could disagree, and a year and a half on from Sleeping Lessons, Alien Boy seem poised to stretch that intimacy to universal proportions. (Nathan Tucker)

Featuring Adam Pasi, Neeraj Srinivasa & Tory Ward

Good News with Lee H Tillman is a monthly event where Portland’s funniest comedians riff on the day's headlines. Sometimes it’s geopolitics and sometimes it’s celebrity gossip but it’s always hilarious.

Lee H Tillman

Lee H. Tillman started his comedy career in Los Angeles, CA performing around Southern California. He is now based in Portland, OR where he performs all over the Pacific Northwest. He has performed at comedy festivals all over the United States including the Burbank Comedy Festival at Flappers where he was awarded “Best of Fest”, the Omaha Comedy Festival, and the Motor City Comedy Festival. While he has a low-key delivery, please do not mistake his laid-back delivery for complacency.

Adam Pasi

Adam Pasi is a Portland comic who pretends to be from Seattle so he can confuse his friends on social media. He's afraid of dolls, loves his mom, and in 2016 he was crowned Portland's 3rd funniest person (he won first in 2019 and 2020 but he thinks bragging about 3rd is funnier)

Neeraj Srinivasan

Neeraj Srinivasan is a first-generation Indian-American comedian from Boise now residing in Portland. He’s a co-host of Portland’s own DOUGH and PREACH comedy shows, and has performed at venues all over the West Coast such as Helium Comedy Club, Revolution Hall, The Comedy Store, and The Hollywood Improv. Neeraj was also dubbed one of Portland Mercury’s “Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy” in addition to being featured in IFC’s “Portlandia,” Treefort Music Festival, and Pacific Crest Comedy Festival.

Tory Ward

Based in the Pacific Northwest, Tory Ward combines her amiable, light hearted personality with sardonic humor creating an experience that is singularly hilarious. She is a regular host at Helium Comedy Club, was voted one of Portland's funniest people by the Willamette Week, and has performed in festivals across the country, such as The All Jane Comedy Festival, 208 Comedy Festival, Limestone Comedy Festival,  and was selected to perform at SF Sketchfest.

Kelli Schaefer

With two full-length records and two EP’s under her belt, Kelli Schaefer’s latest record is another pivot in stylistic choice. This time, with a fresh take on the age-old singer-songwriter trope, her yet-untitled record (expected 2023) delivers haunting melodies over swirling woodwinds, mellotron, piano, classical guitar, and upright bass. These songs could be the soundtrack to a modern gothic, a playlist for a trudge through the forest, the accompaniment to a subconscious mantra. As expected, Schaefer again demonstrates her refusal to confine herself to a single genre. Along with her bandmates Andrew Jones (bass), Ayal Alves (piano, keys), Joey Binhammer (guitar), Kelli Schaefer is working to finish the record and planning tour steadily once it is released in 2023.

Merō

Merō has had a rather enigmatic journey—touring Europe with Other Lives, opening for The Weepies, and playing locally between tours with other projects. Their debut—a haunting, gloom pop exploration of trauma and transformation—does not disappoint.
Merō is the newest project from Portland songwriters Mel Guérison (Alexandra Savior, Other Lives), Rachel Anna Dial, Sam Schick, Phillip Rogers (Haley Heynderickx), and cellist Shawn Alpay (Matt Pond PA, Laura Stevenson, Completions).

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
w/ Tianna Esperanza

A cliché has it that you have to beware of the quiet ones, because most of the time their voices speak sharper and with more range than the loudmouths. Every cliché, however, has a grain of truth in it, and so it’s fair to say that while County Cork singer-songwriter Mick Flannery is outwardly reserved, his songs are fluent in expressing layered aspects of the human condition, its flaws, triumphs, and general uncertainty.

An award-winning, double-platinum selling artist, Mick Flannery has not only released his self-titled sixth album (debuting at No. 1 in Ireland), but also oversaw the worldwide premiere of the stage musical, Evening Train (so named after his 2007 debut album). He began to write songs as a teenager in his home of Blarney, County Cork. As musical influences from albums by the likes of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits seeped into his creative DNA, Mick absorbed, learned and honed the craft that would send him on his way into the world. The path was smoothed somewhat when, at the age of 19, he became the first Irish songwriter to win the Nashville-based International Songwriting Competition. By the time he turned 21, he had signed to a major label and released his debut album.

With his latest release, Mick touches on loose themes of ambition and the search for a meaningful life in the context of a musician’s sometimes feckless and dysfunctional lifestyle. The central character, he reveals, is someone like him, “although this person achieves more notoriety than I have. He is properly famous, and he has to deal with that.” The loose theme is just that, however. “I’m not going to hammer it home. Facets of the theme are on the album, but the storyline itself isn’t an overarching one - each song can stand on its own, and not need to be part of a narrative.”

Threading a line throughout is Mick’s uncanny knack for blending melody with thought-provoking lyrics. Now in his mid-30s, and somewhat reflective of the musician he sings about on his self-titled album, Mick is fully aware of the internal struggles that come with trying to balance ambitions with whatever life throws their way.

As a mature songwriter, he reasons, he’s trying to hold on to what is essential to him, and resigning himself to the fact that the naïve, passionate 20-something ‘Mick Flannery’ is gone. What comes next, he contends, is much more interesting and experienced. “You have a larger worldview and are more learned, each of which combine to create something new.”

“When I mess about with songs, with choruses,” explains Mick, “I try to write the best ones. It’s like a kid kicking around a football on the street – he wants to be Lionel Messi, not a player in a lower division. It’s hard to kill off that level of ambition – I just want to be good at the craft.”
Beware of the quiet ones? You have been duly advised.

Tianna Esperanza

Tianna Esperanza is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller who embodies a depth of talent and heart well beyond her 22 years. With a sultry voice and flair for fashion, Esperanza creates compelling music inspired by legendary artists such as Nina Simone, Public Enemy, and Gil Scott-Heron. Esperanza also happens to be the granddaughter of punk legend Paloma (“Palmolive”) McLardy, who founded the London-based 1970s all-girl punk band The Slits and later played with The Raincoats.
