Creativity is like a fire in a fireplace: You have to tend it or it will go out. For nearly two decades, Matisyahu has kept his creative spirit aflame by evolving his sound, melding genres, and testing the limits of the musical traditions that have inspired him. His latest release, Hold The Fire, and its leadoff single “Fireproof” takes inspiration from a fire dream inspired by Matisyahu's Old Testament religion, which has meant so much to his spiritual and creative life since his recording career began in 2004 and his breakout track "King Without a Crown" blasted into the Billboard charts in 2005. In a roundabout way, those same Old Testament roots springboarded Matisyahu's music career. Growing up outside New York City, the young Matthew Miller followed jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Then, in Bob Marley and reggae, he found that the messaging of Rastafarianism was sourced in part from that same Old Testament. The sound that emerged on his first albums—including his first two studio releases as well as 2005's Gold-certified Live at Stubb's—embraced both the spirit of reggae and his spirituality and roots in Judaism. Buoyed by hits like "King Without a Crown," albums like the Grammy-nominated and Billboard No.1-ranked Youth in 2006, and the Gold-certified 2009 antiwar hit "One Day" (streamed over 150 million times on Spotify alone), he toured extensively through the second half of the aughts with a high-energy stage show that has since grown to include more improvisation. All the while his music expanded into a shapeshifting collision of reggae, hip-hop, alt rock and boldly inventive pop. Today, he continues to be inspired by evolving musical trends, finding linkages and loops between eras and genres. Matisyahu's spirituality has evolved in parallel with his music, though his Jewish heritage remains a central theme throughout his life and music. The new EP, Hold The Fire (out February 2024), also finds him reflecting on celebrity and artistic success. For Matisyahu, “the unbelievable and miraculous feeling of being connected to our people” is what keeps the creative fire alight.

Colin Patrick Harper hails from the tiny island of Bermuda. In the music industry, he is known as the reggae artist Collie Buddz. Buddz was born on August 21, 1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, he attended Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL, where he decided to study studio engineering. Upon graduating from the top in his class at Full Sail in 2006, Buddz began looking for work in the recording industry as a performer or producer. One of his first major gigs was working with recording star Shaggy on the single "Mad Mad World" from Shaggy's new album at the time entitled Intoxication, which was released in 2007. That was the same year Collie released his self-titled debut album with Sony Music with tracks such as ‘Come Around’ and ‘Blind To You’. The album was a success and well-received by critics. WWE (World Wrestling Enterprises) fans would immediately recognize Buddz's voice from the entrance theme ("SOS") for WWE superstar wrestler Kofi Kingston, which was included on the 2008 compilation WWE The Music, Vol. 8. Over the next year, he would continue making guest appearances on the works of many other artists.

It is no small coincidence that his stage name "Buddz" is slang for marijuana. There have been photographs taken of the artist holding bongs and other pot-smoking paraphernalia over the years. Of course, other reggae artists such as Bob Marley have made weed seem an essential part of the reggae lifestyle. When not working in the studio, Collie found himself selling out venue after venue on one of his many exhaustive tours. Now with new music being released and a good reputation under his belt, Buddz finds himself playing at some of the biggest reggae music festivals all across the world such as, Reggae Rise Up, One Love New Zealand, and California Roots Music Festival

At the end of the decade, Buddz started his own record label called Harper Digital. In 2011, he would finally release his second album entitled Playback followed shortly with the Blue Dreamz EP. Buddz would then go on to release his next album, Good Life, fully independently through Harper Digital with features from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Jody Highroller, and the Bay Area’s very own, P-Lo.

More recently, he has finished up his fully self produced album Hybrid which came out in the spring of 2019. Hybrid is Collie Buddz's third full-length album. The album is fully produced by Buddz and features two tracks with Russ, as well as tracks with Tech N9ne, B Young, Stonebwoy, Dizzy Wright, and Johnny Cosmic. The first five songs on the album have been released and highly praised as singles. The FADER called "Love & Reggae" a "quintessential reggae jam," and Billboard praised "Bank" feat. Russ & B Young, claiming "Buddz effortlessly [flowed] on the self-produced melody." Meanwhile, "Bounce It" featuring Ghanian Grammy nominee Stonebwoy has gotten radio play around the world including on Sirius XM Pitbull's Globalization channel, and Buddz's latest single "Show Love" has quickly earned radio play on Sirius XM The Joint and was added to Spotify's elite New Music Friday playlist.

Kalan.FrFr’s emphasis on keeping things real has propelled his career from the beginning. He has risen to prominence in the saturated Los Angeles music scene blurring the lines between rapper and singer, thoughtfulness, and turn-up. Consistent support from friends and family helped Kalan.FrFr (Forreal Forreal) build his self-confidence through the success of his two 2018 projects, Hurt and TwoFr. The former was a therapeutic project telling Kalan’s own story that listeners deeply related to, while TwoFr showed that Kalan could be the life of the party. The single “Fine Ass” gained traction in the streets and helped expand his brand to become a favorite with the ladies as he charms them with promises of life’s luxuries and a good time.

That same free spirit is exemplified on his debut album, TwoFr 2. The creative process has changed little, except now Kalan has more resources to pull from including, beat selections and life experiences.

“That’s the whole point of me being Kalan.FrFr, you’re going to get what’s real from me,” he shares. “The experiences are gonna change, I’ve grown, I’ve been through a lot more.”

The lead single “Scoring” is a bouncy party track while “I Gotta Kno” shows Kalan’s reflective side, analyzing his life purpose over a piano-laced soundscape. “Hoochie Hoochie” is twerktastic, and “No Love” is signature West Coast with tales from the streets woven into groovy production from Cypress Moreno while hard-hitting “Get In” with Stunna 4 Vegas is sure to make noise.

Kalan got into music at an early age, playing a handful of instruments growing up, but had a dream to play in the NFL, as any young boy does. He got a scholarship to play defensive back at San Diego State University, but never got the chance to shine like he wanted to. His hardships culminated when an interception was called back, in the Mountain West Championship game. The writing was on the wall for his football days.

His transition to music was not easy as he knew the rap game is just as uncertain as a professional football career. But he kept the next-play mentality that he learned as an athlete to power himself forward.

“Music and football are kind-of one and the same,” he says. “So going into music, it was just like all those times I was told no or I was shut down, closed the door on, I could be able to accept that and move on and keep going.”

In his time at college, Kalan received his degree in social science to help kids with special needs. He is a supporter of the Special Olympics, and one-day dreams to open up schools and resource centers for kids with autism and other disabilities.

He hopes to use his music to continue building his platform toward this goal as he carries the words his grandmother gave him to keep his light shining.

Across their ten-year career, Oliver Lee and James Carter have amassed billions of streams and record sales, performed on the main stages of the world's biggest festivals and cultivated a global following in the process. Much like a snake shedding its skin, the Snakehips sound continues to evolve, with each layer being peeled back to reveal another exciting chapter in the story. It was 2015 hit 'All My Friends' that turned the boys from promising production duo to household name. A collaboration with singer-songwriter Tinashe and internationally renowned hip-hop star Chance the Rapper, the track would go platinum in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand, as well as winning the annual Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. 'All My Friends' proved to be the beginning of a catalogue of collaborations with some of the biggest artists on the planet. Since then they have linked up with the likes of Grammy-winning rapper Anderson .Paak ('Money On Me'), One Direction's Zayn ('Cruel'), Danish singer-songwriter MØ ('Don't Leave') and Brooklyn rap don Joey Badass ('Either Way'), securing millions of streams and record sales in the process. Continuing to broaden their musical horizons and push their sound into bold, fresh new directions, Snakehips have firmly cemented their status as one of the best double acts in the game.

Music has been part of Marcelo Falcão's life since a very young age, when he received a guitar from his father. Born in Engenho Novo, a neighborhood in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, he even studied classical guitar at the Villa Lobos Institute and flamenco guitar at Casa de Espanha (Rio). It was during this time that he read an advertisement in the newspaper about a band looking for a vocalist.

This marked the birth of O Rappa, one of the biggest names in the Brazilian music scene, which, over 25 years, has amassed countless hits and numerous awards. With 13 projects released, thousands of performances in Brazil and abroad, and a legion of passionate fans, O Rappa has left an indelible mark.

During breaks between O Rappa's albums and tours, Marcelo Falcão led various side projects. This includes Falcão e os Locomotivos, a group formed by friends coming together to make music, and Jet Dub System, a project that creates versions of songs by Jorge Ben Jor, Tim Maia, and Bob Marley, where Falcão goes by the pseudonym Jet. Additionally, he hosts the program Mofaia on FM O Dia, dedicated to his passion for vinyl records.

Beyond music, Marcelo Falcão has ventured into the world of fashion, creating his own clothing brand, Jonny Size, reflecting his lifestyle and sponsoring Brazilian musicians and athletes.

The album features musicians such as Bino on bass (Cidade Negra), Marcos Suzano on percussion, Hélio Ferinha on keyboards, DJ Negralha on scratches and effects, Felipe Boquinha on drums, and Marcelo Falcão himself on guitar, vocals, and keyboard. The tracks were recorded throughout the year 2018.

It’s been a whirlwind few years for Movements as evidenced by the fact that band’s 2020 album Nothing Good Left to Give debuted at #3 on the Alternative chart and their streams have doubled since then with 200 million total streams in the U.S. alone. However despite their success, the Southern Californian act have constantly reinvented themselves since forming in 2015 and the band’s third full-length RUCKUS! sees the post-hardcore quartet taking their sound to expansive and sometimes unexpected places. Produced by longtime collaborator Will Yip (Circa Survive, Code Orange), the album fuses post-hardcore and punk influences with a healthy dose of pop songcraft to create an album that defies scene conventions in favor of something wholly unique. In order to accomplish this, the band—which features vocalist Patrick
Miranda, guitarist Ira George, drummer Spencer York and bassist Austin Cressey—made three extended trips to Yip’s Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, to write and record the collection of songs that would end up as RUCKUS! “I truly don’t believe that it could have been a more streamlined process and I don’t think we’ve ever written music that’s as good as what we put together for this record,” Miranda explains. From the distorted grind of “Lead Pipe” to the syncopated groove of “Killing Time” and pop splendor of “Tightrope,” RUCKUS! sees the band integrating decidedly different influences such as Gorillaz and Strokes into their sound to challenge people’s preconceptions of their sound.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum (SGM) - the most gloriously unclassifiable American band in existence - is bringing back the apocalypse. The esteemed curators of SGM are proud to announce a series of GrandReopening tours, recordings, and related events. On any given night, SGM's live set careens from euphoric to eerie to ego-annihilating wall-of-sound. Gleefully dark and joyful noise emanates from a wild array of instruments, many homemade. Crowds are engulfed in circuitous melody, strange bursts of color and light, unknowable time signatures, spasmodic dance.

A Sleepytime performance is never just a string of head-bangin' anthems. Each song is an elaborate journey of its own, often clocking in at 10+ minutes, framing cameos from friends and family in the form of But oh dance, parades, puppet shows, even the occasional impassioned oration of Italian Futurist poetry. People speak in hushed tones about the live shows like rites of passage. What was an average local rock club just hours before is transformed into a volatile dream space where anything can, and does, happen.

Flustered reviewers, desperate to pigeonhole the ineffable, have labeled SGM everything from neo-RIO (Rock in Opposition) to avant-prog metal to grindcore funk theatre to, in the words of one particularly rapt concertgoer, "some kinda SatanicAnarchic Viking Shit". None of those descriptors come anywhere close to conveying the band's ethos.

Sleepytime's arsenal of instruments ranges from the searing violin of a certain lady, standard rock fare of electric guitars, basses and drums, to intriguing contraptions from various folk traditions, to junkyard percussion and Fisher Price toys, to horns 'n'bells 'n' rusty trash can lids, to a collection of handcrafted one-offs including thePercussion Guitar, the Wiggler, the Spring-Nail Guitar, and a brutal, seven foot long piano-stringed bass behemoth called The Sledge Hammer Dulcimer.Together the group has penned lyrics inspired by the Unabomber, by JamesJoyce, by Muriel Rukeyser, by madness, by a stroke-stricken obstetrician, by love, by death, by cockroaches, by the increasingly bleak industrialized end times we're all enduring. The band sports blackened teeth and spiked leather gauntlets and bonnets and tri-hawks and military khaki and antique lace nighties. They croon lilting post-modern folk melodies enmeshed with face-melting blasts of pure untrammeled black metal.Well, drop-kick a lithopedion, lizards and germs, because it's time to ROCK AGAINST ROCK AND REJOICE! Run, walk, crawl, slither your way to one of their upcoming shows. Whatever you gotta do to get to the club, where some truly spectacular DIY-or-Die-Tryin' art and community awaits you. Bring your body down to where SGM always has and ever shall live: on the loving, bleeding edge of aninterrobang.

This singular act is not to be missed.

On July 21st, 2016, a user on 4chan’s /mu/ board posted a photo of a demo CD they’d discovered in an Oxfam charity store in Nottingham, UK: titled D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, purportedly released in 1998. The listener uploaded the ripped audio to file-sharing sites, and later YouTube, where it began circulating around web forums. A cult of fans banded together to solve the origin story of the mysterious disc, until eventually a long defunct local band from Nottingham who called themselves Panchiko discovered their album (limited to 30 copies) had spread virally across the internet 18 years later.

By popular demand Panchiko reunited touring the music of D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L to sold out audiences across the US and UK in 2022 and in May 2023 self-released a new LP titled Failed at Math(s) followed by expanded tours in the US, UK, and EU. Panchiko are currently in the studio crafting a new album with news to come.

Bearing witness to the accelerating negativity of global affairs, Steel Pulse emerges withmusical vengeance to halt the disarray of humanity. The band's twelfth studio production, titledMass Manipulation, reflects four decades committed to bettering mankind through music. SteelPulse continues to be revolutionary in engaging controversial topics of racial injustice andhuman rights on a global scale. Their musical stance and conceptualizations are as potent andrelevant today as they were at the beginning of their career. The album’s uniquely thematicapproach provokes thought as it presses forward, toward humanities unification. A manipulationof our minds has been influenced by a New World Order currently dominating humankind. In 2021, Bayside celebrated more than two decades with the 21 Years of Really Bad Luck anniversary tour. For the past 21 years, Queens-based Bayside has represented a lifestyle, a counterculture, and a deeply held conviction, diverse in thought and background but united by a shared desire for authentic expression. At their core, Bayside is a band that has constantly proved that music is not about gimmicks and ephemeral trends, but a timeless reflection of our lives and our times. It is through this timelessness and consistency that they continue to cultivate a cult-following that lives and breathes everything the band creates.
Bayside has always focused on creating songs that are relevant to people who want substance, rather than being relegated to one genre. And while many bands would coast on their past success, Bayside rejects the premise and proves time and again that the best is yet to come.
With The Red EP, fans see Bayside refining their unique brand of punk rock even further. The EP’s three songs offer powerful, hard-hitting melodies that draw upon the band’s heavier influences. Fans can look forward to more new music coming soon.
