One-night only Live Production James Weldon Johnson’s God’s Trombones
The Dothan Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will present God’s Trombones: Using Old Keys to Unlock New Doors on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 6 p.m. at the Dothan Opera House. The performance, based on Johnson’s 1927 book of sermons, features local pastors and ministers who will bring to life sermons that embody the exuberant style of preaching made famous by the African American culture. After almost a century, these sermons still serve as old keys with the power to unlock new doors.
Montgomery’s Carver High School Alumni Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Henry Terry, will accompany the preachers to assist in taking the audience members to church.
Proceeds will support the chapter’s public service programs including scholarships and youth programs. Tickets are $30.00 per adult and $15.00 for children under 12 years of age. Tickets will be available beginning February 1, 2023, at the Dothan Civic Center Box Office.

The Florida-based Indiana native has been an integral part of the popular radio program, "The Bob and Tom Show", since 2005 as the voice of rascally redneck Donnie Baker; aging good old boy, Floyd the Trucker; and hyperactive traveling salesman Kenny Tarmac. A versatile comedian, he brings live on the stage many recurring characters that he presents on the nationally syndicated radio show.
“It was going well bringing Donnie Baker to the show, but you settle into a routine, I felt like I had to create the next mold, which was adding Floyd and Kenny, two more characters that bring the audience to laugh and enjoy the evening. I love doing what I do because I’m getting a chance to branch out and bring some different characters I do on the air to the stage.
