LIVE ON STAGE!

Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road and Tampa Theatre are proud to welcome Tab Benoit's Swampland Jam & The Samantha Fish Band to the Tampa Theatre stage at 8:00pm Saturday, Dec. 4.

Tab Benoit, one of music’s most enduring and masterful blues and roots performers, and an authority on Louisiana music and culture, leads an all-star band featuring three giants of Louisiana Roots Music - Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Sansone and Waylon Thibodeaux.

Benoit is a GRAMMY®-nominated singer, songwriter and guitarist who has built a remarkable 30+ year career on the foundation of his gritty and soulful Delta swamp blues, acquiring a devoted legion of fans along the way, as well as five Blues Music Awards, including BB King Entertainer of the Year (twice) and an induction into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

Benoit’s accomplishments as a musician are matched only by his devotion to the environmental health of his native Louisiana wetlands. He is the founder and driving force behind Voice of the Wetlands, an organization working to preserve the coastal waters of his home state.

Anyone who has ever heard Samantha Fish’s previous albums knows that she has earned a place in the top rank of contemporary blues guitarists and that her voice can wring the soul out of a ballad and belt out a rocker with roof-shaking force. Over the course of her career as an award-winning artist, singer/songwriter and guitarist, Fish has brought extraordinary power to her self-expression, capturing her inner world in combustible riffs, visceral rhythms and spine-tingling vocal work.

On her new album, Faster (Rounder Records) due in September, she joins forces with super-producer Martin Kierszenbaum (Lady Gaga, Sting, Sheryl Crow) and imbues even more intensity into her electrifying brand of blues/rock-and-roll.  With Fish accompanied by legendary drummer John Freese (Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, The Replacements) and bassist Diego Navaira of The last Bandoleros, the result is a singular body of work both irresistibly galvanizing and emotionally raw.

Tickets range from $34.50-$69.50, plus applicable fees (from $39.50-$74.50 total at the Box Office and $43.25-$79.50 total online), and will go on sale Friday, Aug. 27 at 10:00am.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

1954 / 2h 20m / Not Rated / Musical

White Christmas
is most famous for its namesake song “White Christmas,” which was written for the movie … Holiday Inn. But in the twelve years since that movie came out, it had already become an enormous hit, so setting a new movie around it seemed obvious -- and sure enough, White Christmas is a loose thematic remake of Holiday Inn. When you have Irving Berlin ready to write another movie musical for you, you just say yes. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen are captivating as matched pairs of entertainers caught up in cute misunderstandings as they strive for stardom and travel the road to love. And for the first time, Tampa Theatre is showing the sing-along version, so now you can add your own voices to standards like “Sisters,” “Count Your Blessings,” “Snow” and “White Christmas” itself.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

You asked for it, and we're bringing it to you: Wes Anderson's latest, The French Dispatch, is hot off the presses at Tampa Theatre for a very special limited engagement!

Written, produced and directed by Wes Anderson, The French Dispatch is a vibrant, freewheeling love letter to journalists set in the overseas headquarters of a 20th century American newspaper. Starring his usual stable of collaborators and a brand-new crop of actors besides (Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Timothée Chalamet, Bill Murray, Jeffrey Wright and more), it tells the story of the end of the newspaper's lifespan, as it's ceasing publication following one final farewell issue containing three republished articles from past editions. Those three interlocking stories combine in a visually sumptuous picaresque that takes viewers on a romantic dance all over the last century.

We simply couldn't stand the idea of missing a chance to play The French Dispatch — Anderson is a favorite among our fans and patrons, and we personally believe that his incredibly intricate, meticulously composed films simply look better in our cinema. So join us to see The French Dispatch as it was meant to be seen: in an improbably extant, distractingly overdecorated, anachronistic building operated by a loving clutch of well-meaning eccentrics.

2h 5m / R / Biographical Drama

Starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as both on-screen and off-screen couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Being The Ricardos chronicles the tumultuous relationship of the stars of the genre-defining '50s sitcom I Love Lucy.

Written and directed by Academy-Award®-winner Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Trial of the Chicago 7), this revealing glimpse of the couple's complex romantic and professional relationship, the film takes audiences into the writers' room, onto the soundstage and behind closed doors with Ball and Arnaz during one critical production week — from a Monday table read to a Friday shoot — of their groundbreaking show. But more than workplace drama, it also discusses the racist, bigoted cultural taboos they had to navigate: Desi was discriminated against as a Cuban, their marriage was held against them, and Lucy had to defend his right to be on the show at all.

Come see this fascinating character study of two bigger-than-life entertainers before it starts streaming — and before the Oscar® heat around it ignites!

2020 / 2h 2m / PG / Family Musical

In the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton, legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle's (Forest Whitaker) fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But when his trusted apprentice (Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it's up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter (Madalen Mills) — and a long-forgotten invention — to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within.

Originally conceived by writer/director David E. Talbert as a stage musical, Jingle Jangle retains the lively character of an in-person theatre experience — and the exceptionally strong, majority Black cast gives this overflowing stocking of a movie a fresh perspective on the optimism and redemptive potential of Christmas.

1946 / 2h 15m / PG / Drama

Watch It’s a Wonderful Life every year, and you’ll see a different message in it every time. On its face, it’s a heartwarmer about treating your fellow man with fairness and love, knowing that they will stand behind you when you need them. But it’s also a political movie about the destructive influence of consolidated wealth (Lionel Barrymore’s Mr. Potter is one of cinema’s great villains); it’s nearly a tragic portrait of a talented dreamer who sacrifices himself completely for others and is almost destroyed by his own frustration; and in the tradition of Dickens’s three Christmas ghosts, it’s a look at the chilling consequences of all the paths not taken in a life. Solemn and sweet but uncompromising, the movie refuses to let George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) off easy. And the key is the title — it may not be the life he wanted, it may not be the life he deserved, it may not always be easy to admit, but it is, truly, a wonderful life.

711 N Franklin St
Tampa, FL
United States
Built in 1926, the Tampa Theatre is one of America’s most elaborate movie palaces and a beloved community landmark.

Visitors to the Theatre enjoy world-class entertainment under a realistic night sky with twinkling stars, in a romantic Mediterranean courtyard replete with old-world statues, flowers, and gargoyles.

Today, the Theatre is managed by the not-for-profit Tampa Theatre Foundation. As one of the most heavily utilized venues of its kind in the United States, Tampa Theatre’s single auditorium hosts more than 600 events each year, including a full schedule of first-run and classic films, concerts, special events, corporate events, tours and educational programs.
