Where does the organ go when the movie starts? Why is there a stuffed peacock perched near the proscenium? (And, for that matter, what is a “proscenium” anyway?)

Learn the Theatre’s secrets, stories, art and architecture and witness its historic restoration efforts with a “balcony to backstage” tour of Tampa’s majestic movie palace. The 90-minute tours will kick off in the lobby at 11:30am and include a demonstration of the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.

These tours do sell out, so please consider buying your tickets in advance, either online by clicking your preferred date and time at right, or in person at the historic Franklin Street Box Office.

Tour tickets are $10 for general admission / FREE for Tampa Theatre Members.

1h 45m / R / Drama, Thriller

At last, a film whose name we won't be able to say out loud from stage. And we once played a movie called Hail Satan!

The Tragedy of Macbeth is, at least this time around, the work of director Joel Coen (one of the Coen brothers, famous for Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men and many others) and his first film as a solo act. A violent, vicious and surreal take on Shakespeare's famous play of a Scottish king, his ambitious wife and what they'd both be willing to do for power, Macbeth has had a long and storied history not just as a play but on the silver screen as well. But this take, starring Oscar®-winners Denzel Washington as Macbeth and Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth and filmed in dreamlike black and white, lets the well-known story of treachery, murder and the psychological cost of crossing moral boundaries expand in the imagination to take on new dimensions of (frighteningly contemporary) complexity. It's a visual feast that's served with enormous respect for the essence of Shakespeare's words, even though the text has been pared down to move at a furious pace. A creepy, trippy, bone-shaking triumph. Join us for a vision of The Scottish Play unlike any you've ever seen.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

LIVE ON STAGE!

Bruce Dickinson is considered one of the world’s most storied musicians. Aside from decades spent delivering high-octane performances with his larger-than-life persona in IRON MAIDEN, Bruce has lived an extraordinary off-stage existence too.

A true polymath, his accomplishments include: pilot and airline captain, aviation entrepreneur, beer brewer, motivational speaker, podcaster, film scriptwriter, twice-published novelist and New York Times Top 10 best-selling author, radio presenter, TV actor, sports commentator and international fencer… to name but a few. So there’s plenty to be entertained by throughout the evening’s cornucopia of fascinating tales and derring-do exploits, all delivered by Bruce with characteristically infectious enthusiasm and wry wit.

Split into two parts, the first section of the show sees Bruce taking a humorous and often satirical look at the world from his own very personal perspective, treating the audience to private insights into his drive and ambition, peppered with plenty of Maiden anecdotes, and a myriad of other experiences encompassing not just the giddy heights but also the extreme lows, told first-hand in his inimitable anarchic style, punctuated with photographs and sometimes even erupting into song a cappella, to illustrate a point.

The final section of the evening is devoted entirely to a Q&A session, with the opportunity to pose questions on any subject whatsoever. As Bruce’s answers will all be completely improvised – the more left-field and quirky the question, the more interesting and compelling the response is likely to be!

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to spend an up-close and personal evening with one of the world’s most captivating icons in an intimate environment, as Bruce Dickinson brings his Evening With show to the U.S. for the very first time, where you are guaranteed a highly entertaining and enjoyable night out and may even go home inspired to try something new.

Tickets range from $34.50-$59.50, plus applicable fees ($39.50-$64.50 total at the Box Office & $43.25-$69.25 online) Ticket pricing increases on the day of the show to $40.00-$65.00, plus applicable fees ($45.00-70.00 total at the Box Office & $49.00-$75.00 online).

Drive My Car (2021)

2h 59m / Not Rated / Drama

An aging stage actor named Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima), fresh off a deep personal tragedy, is to be artist-in-residence at a theater festival out of town and needs a driver. He turns to his go-to mechanic, who recommends a young woman in her twenties, Misaki (Tôko Miura), with some painful secrets in her past. Despite their initial misgivings, a very special relationship develops between the two. And despite the huge differences in their life experiences, they find they have more in common than shows at first glance.

Understated but extraordinarily rewarding, this is the second feature from director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi released this year (the other being Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy), which gleans its premise from one of Haruki Murakami’s short stories in the collection Men Without Women. Selected as Japan’s entry for the Best International Feature Film OSCAR—the first time this filmmaker’s work has received the honor—Drive My Car marks his deserved breakthrough.

Citizen Cope – aka Clarence Greenwood – is an American songwriter / producer. He has released seven studio LP's that have garnered him a loyal following despite never being fully embraced by mainstream media and commercial radio.

Describing his music is difficult, he's been inspired by artists such as John Lennon and Stevie Wonder to Bob Marley and Outkast. Citizen Cope's compositions have been recorded by Carlos Santana, Dido and Richie Havens. In 20 years of touring, he has built a devout following, performing at sold out theaters and ballrooms across the country. Over time, Cope's music has become the soundtrack to the lives of those who have embraced it and he continues to inspire audiences through what can only be described as deep personal connection

1h 46m / PG / Musical Drama

Hugh Jackman plays P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman, the 2017 musical celebration of the life of one of America’s true original entertainment pioneers, the producer of the most famous touring circus in history, and the spiritual godfather of marketing.

A worshipful celebration of the joy and equalizing power of show business (and featuring songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who composed for that other big love letter to showbiz, La La Land), The Greatest Showman presents a slightly sanitized-for-public-consumption version of Barnum’s history – but who cares? It’s pure delight, song and dance and romance all the way through, and its message that everyone deserves to be celebrated just as they are is definitely worth singing to the rafters about. Just like Barnum would have wanted, audiences are transported into a fantasy of spectacle and music for 90+ minutes, and hopefully leave with a fuller appreciation for the magic in their own lives.

Showman-inspired costumes are welcome when you come “follow the bouncing top hat” and add your voice to the flying circus of fantastic songs onscreen at the most requested, most successful sing-along in Tampa Theatre history!

LIVE ON STAGE!

Tampa Theatre and Sun Events are proud to announce that
7 Bridges: The Ultimate EAGLES Experience is coming LIVE to Tampa Theatre at 7:00pm Saturday, Feb. 19.

7 Bridges: The Ultimate EAGLES Experience is a stunningly accurate tribute to the music of the Eagles. Using no backing tracks or harmonizers, 7 Bridges faithfully re-creates the experience of an Eagles concert from the band’s most prolific period. Every show features one brilliant hit single after another with some mighty Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh surprises sprinkled into the mix. 7 Bridges offers the perfect blend of songs to capture all levels of Eagles devotees.

Combining incredible musicianship, vocal precision and a stage presence that has garnered them nationwide acclaim, the band features Jay Sweet as Glenn Frey, Keith Thoma as Don Henley, Joe Sax as Randy Meisner/Timothy B. Schmit, Richie Scholl as the eccentric and unpredictable Joe Walsh, Brian Franklin as guitar wizard Don Felder, and Vernon Roop as Joe Vitale, the often unsung hero of many Eagles studio albums and live performances.

Tickets range from $29.00-$65.00, plus taxes and applicable fees, and will go on sale at 10:00am Friday, Oct. 15 at the historic Franklin Street Box Office and online at www.tampatheatre.org.
