PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Join us for the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty. Our story blends the backstory of Maleficent, the classic 1950s movie, and the classical ballet all in one show! Our Jr shows are performed by students aged 3-12.

 

As a beautiful young woman of pure heart, Maleficent, has an idyllic life in a forest kingdom. When an invading army threatens the land, Maleficent rises up to become its fiercest protector. However, a terrible betrayal hardens her heart and twists her into a creature bent on revenge. When a princess is born to King Stefan and his queen, the entire kingdom rejoices. At a ceremony, three good fairies - Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather - bestow gifts of magic on the child. Maleficent bursts in and she places a curse on the princess - named Aurora - that she will die before sunset on her 16th birthday when she pricks her finger on a spinning wheel's spindle. Merryweather casts a spell so Aurora will not die, but only sleep and awaken to a kiss from her true love. The fairies take Aurora to a cottage in the woods to keep her away from the eyes of Maleficent, and raise her as their own child, named Briar Rose. On her 16th birthday, Aurora meets Prince Phillip, the son of a king whose own kingdom will soon merge with King Stefan's - and falls in love. Maleficent's horrible prophecy is fulfilled when she lures Aurora to prick her finger on the spindle, sending her into sleep. After defeating Maleficent Phillip awakens Aurora with true loves kiss. The kingdom celebrates their wedding with a ball! We meet other fairies such a the Lilac Fairy. Fairytale characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and more dance at the ball concluding with the famous “garland waltz”
