Children of Metropolis is the latest production by Scrap Arts Music.

It includes sixteen all-original music compositions written for over 145 self-made sculptural instruments (album released July 2023); a smattering of Scrap Arts Music’s signature action-choreography; and a whimsical story presented as a full-length B+W movie that's projected while the musicians perform live.

With a retro-futuristic, sci-fi vibe that takes visual inspiration from German films of the 1920s, Scrap Arts Music’s Children of Metropolis is a fast-paced, all-acoustic percussive bonanza with five musicians bringing an original score to heart-pounding life.

Children of Metropolis is a multi-year creation supported in part by the Canada Council for the Arts, Creative BC, Small Business BC, and FACTOR Canada.

    JIMMIE VAUGHAN
In true Texas fashion, four-time Grammy-winner Jimmie Vaughan has helped breathe new life into the music that has been his lifeline all these decades, becoming a hero to those who cherish America's real gift to musical history.

"When I talk about country and blues, they're the same thing," Jimmie Vaughan says. "Muddy Waters and Hank Williams, Webb Pierce and Jimmy Reed. When I was a kid, I didn't understand the difference. Everybody was always asking me, 'Why do you want to play blues? Why don't you play country?' But I would listen to the country guys and they would be doing a Jimmy Reed song. They're playing the same lick. And Ray Charles, Little Milton, Guitar Junior, Lonnie Brooks, B.B. King--they all did country songs. Is Bob Wills country blues or jazz? And the answer is, it's American music. I'm tired of trying to pigeonhole everything. I want to bring it together; it comes from the same place."

As a young teenager in Oak Cliff, Texas, his father told him to take guitar lessons if he wanted to really learn the instrument. But when Vaughan's teacher told the guitar student it wasn't going to work because the student "was too far gone" to learn from the lesson books, Jimmie Vaughan knew he was on his own. Which was perfect for him, because the blues would be his teacher for life. For those who find themselves living inside this true American music, it becomes a way of life, and a musical force to follow forever.

Jimmie Vaughan became possessed by his instrument while listening to the blues on the Black radio station in Dallas, and it has been that way ever since. When something this strong takes over, there is no way out—the pursuit just keeps going deeper. Jimmie Vaughan has been playing the blues he hears in his head and feels in his heart for over a half-century.

    MATHIAS LATTIN
At 20 years old, Mathias Lattin won 1st place at the 2023 International Blues Challenge in the band category and was awarded Best Guitarist by the judges. Mathias Lattin is an emerging young Texas guitarist and product of the acclaimed Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts.

“...there’s enough promise here to mark him as an artist to watch.”- Living Blues Magazine.

With their sleek, synth heavy, steady beat and driving guitar sound all inspired by proto-punk, garage rock, and power pop, Boston-based quintet the Cars racked up a string of multi platinum albums (6) and a whopping 16 Top 40 singles, becoming the most successful American synth-pop-rock (New Wave) band of the late ’70s and ’80s. Their immense popularity made them and their sound cross over into all top radio format and movie soundtracks. The first two albums (1978’s The Cars and 1979’s Candy-O) became instant classics; their fifth album, 1984’s Heartbeat City was a modern pop masterpiece fueled by a run of videos that became MTV staples. The Cars broke up in 1988, but their music’s popularity and influence never faded. These incredible pioneers were officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Carpool tribute band recreates the sound, feel, look and vibe that made the Cars world famous. The band is comprised of five of the best and hardest working full-time musicians in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Their performance meticulously captures all the essence and brings it onto the stage. A Carpool show will take you right back to when the Cars were (and continue to be) the soundtrack of our lives, reminding us all of why the Cars hold a very special place in all of our hearts and minds.
