"Experience Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” in what the Chicago Sun Times has called “an extraordinary intimate evening of live storytelling and music” performed by actor/violinist Frank Babbitt. “The tale delivered the way it was meant to be, in Dickens’ language” using the original reading text performed by Dickens himself. “Enhanced by Babbitt’s resonating voice and rich violin,” a one man performance with live musical underscore.

Rediscover the timeless story of Scrooge and Marley, the Cratchits, various ghosts and an old man’s life altering encounter with the true spirit of Christmas. Your imagination will be the pathway into a powerful shared experience as the story is brought to vivid life in a dramatic reading with festive holiday music from the time of Dickens."

Frank Babbitt has been sharing his dramatic reading of Dickens' Carol with audiences since 2007. These performances have frequently been given as benefits in partnership with care and educational organizations.

Babbitt received an MM in Violin Performance from SUNY Stony Brook and has been a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra since 1995. About Frank Russell:

Renowned Chicago bass guitarist Frank Russell recent recipient of the prestigious 2020 Jeff Award for Best Original Music In A Play. In collaboration with the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Frank is currently in the studio now recording an album in tribute to the legendary group and they will be taking part singing on the project. Frank also is the only bass guitarist to grace the cover of Chicago Jazz Magazine. Frank has performed with Ramsey Lewis, Wallace Roney, Freddie Hubbard, Alphonse Mouzon, Ken Chaney, Henry Johnson  and many more. Grammy Award winning writer Neil Tesser wrote I can’t imagine a more suitable artist for a project like this not only because Frank is such an astute chronicler of the bass guitars evolution in jazz but also because he can illustrate every stylistic development along the way.

About Megan Curran:

A versatile collaborator and leader, Megan Curran finds inspiration in classic jazz compositions, seeking to enliven them with thoughtful interpretation. A favored freelance solo pianist and nuanced accompanist, Curran particularly enjoys the interplay of the trio format, the connections between musicians and the creative exchange of ideas that occurs organically in performance. Like many musicians, Curran played in church from a young age. She continued her studies with Tony Caramia and Michael Kocour at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and played in jazz bands there. She has performed extensively at venues throughout the Chicago area, including FitzGeraldΚΌs, the Green Mill, and the Woodstock Jazz Festival. Living musical heroes include Benny Green, Michel Camilo and Kenny Barron. Megan Curran continues exploring the jazz canon with her trio, and plans to record in 2023. She performs regularly as a member of the Outcast Jazz Band, and shares her music with joy.

About Vince Clark:

Chicago-based vocalist and bandleader Vince Clark has been performing professionally in and around the Chicago area for over 40 years. As a trombonist, he studied Jazz Performance at the University of North Texas, before turning his attention to his true passion of vocal performance. He is a co-founder of the 18-piece Outcast Jazz Band, with whom he spent his formative years exploring his love and affinity for the likes of Louis Jordan, Nat Cole, Tony Bennett and Joe Williams. Vince is a Chicago mainstay, performing weekly at Chicago’s Green Mill Lounge as part of their 1930s Radio Hour. In addition to his work with the Outcasts, he is frequent guest singer with local musical chameleons Tributosaurus, and plays often with Expo ‘76 and the Total Pro Horns.

About:

Blue Violet Duo "excel at both extremes, from the nuanced and restrained to the incandescent and extravagant" (Stringendo magazine). Formed in 2013, the Chicago based duo (Kate Carter, violin; Louise Chan, piano) was born of a friendship and musical kinship and enjoyed immediate recognition, winning a competition that led to their performance in Carnegie's Weill Hall in New York in February of 2014. Their 2018 debut album, American Souvenirs, received critical recognition and was selected as WFMT's "New Release of the Day" in October 2018. They have been invited for repeat performances at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, most recently in January 2022. They enjoy bringing to light lesser-known, engaging works to surprise and delight audiences everywhere. This performance celebrates the January 2023 release of the duo's second album of all American works, Strike, Strum, and Stride.

About:

Constellation Men’s Ensemble (CME) is a Chicago-based vocal group dedicated to creating distinct performances in unique spaces, empowering the next generation of singers through educational engagement, and expanding the repertoire for men’s vocal music by commissioning new works from both emerging and established composers.

In 2016, CME founded their new music series NOVA, “new, original, vocal, art.”  NOVA seeks to capitalize on their mission of commissioning new works. Last year, the fifth annual NOVA concerts were centered around the theme of “humanhood,” and featured the largest commissioned work to date by New Jersey-based composer Robert Maggio entitled Man Up/Man Down. That work will be featured on Constellation’s first album being released in early 2023 with Sono Luminus Records.

Constellation has had the opportunity to partner with Music of the Baroque to bring their music and passion to students within Chicago Public Schools. Workshop performances focused on careers in music, the joy of community through singing, and the multitude of ways that music can remain a part of your life post high school. Pre-COVID, they toured to New England and Maine, working with over 2,000 middle and high school students through their passion of connecting with the next generation of singers.

CME is the 2019 winner of the American Prize in Choral Performance, professional division. www.constellationensemble.org
