STRFKR
w/ The Undercover Dream Lovers, Das Kope

Being No One, Going Nowhere. The title of STRFKR’s fourth album may seem bleak at first. But hold it in your head a minute, feel its weight, and you may recognize the phrase for what it is: a goal. In the era of the personal brand — amid the FOMO Age — it’s increasingly hard to shed a stifling sense of self, or to just be in the moment that you’re in. Well, consider this an invitation to get blissfully insignificant. That’s what STRFKR founder Joshua Hodges aimed to do when he exiled himself to the desert to create this record, but he returned with his most significant work yet: a set of darkly glistening dance songs rife with sticky beats, earworming hooks, philosophical heft, and bittersweet beauty.

The album opens on “Tape Machine,” and the difference is readily apparent. On 2013’s Miracle Mile, STRFKR refined a full-band sound, but this doubles down on and completely reimagines the project’s electronic and pop roots. The initial synths could fuel a rave, and the ensuing groove could score a Drive sequel, but the song is richer still, with cosmic effects flying overhead and a psych-folk earthiness below. It isn’t that the band sat this LP out — drummer (etc.) Keil Corcoran penned the thick astral disco of “In the End,” and he and bassist (etc.) Shawn Glassford both pitch in throughout. But Being No One, Going Nowhere was born in Joshua Tree after Hodges packed up his Los Angeles apartment and moved to that tiny Mojave outpost under the great big sky. “It came together for me in the desert,” he says. “Out there, it’s easy to feel small and slow.”

When Hodges started STRFKR in 2007, it was designed to be success-proof. The name was both unfit for radio and a jab at fame-chasers. But the project was also meant to be bright, playful and brimming with energy. He stumbled upon a winning juxtaposition that’s a STRFKR staple to this day: dark (or heavy) lyrics set to happy music. Hodges credits that to Elliott Smith’s influence, although Being No One, Going Nowhere has closer sonic kin in Italo-disco, kosmische musik and Tony Hoffer’s work with Phoenix, Beck and M83. English thinker/writer Alan Watts, a scholar of Eastern philosophy, was another muse for Hodges — his voice appears on nearly every STRFKR release, including this one. That’s him on “interspace,” talking about sloughing off preconceived identity to find one’s place in the universe, which is the story of Hodges’ eventual career: stop trying — no, start not trying — and succeed.

Aggie Theatre Presents
Jimkata
w/ Special Guests

Four years after going on hiatus, Jimkata is back with a renewed sense of purpose and an extraordinary new album. Recorded in Syracuse with producer Jason Randall, Bonfires finds the trio digging deep and stretching their boundaries with bold, intoxicating arrangements fueled by swirling synthesizers and anthemic hooks. The songs here are at once modern and classic, blurring the lines between the organic and the electronic as they reckon with doubt, struggle, and perseverance in a search for truth and meaning. Like much of Jimkata’s catalog, Bonfires delivers transcendence in tight, dancefloor-ready packages, but there’s a sense of freedom at play that pushes the trio’s performances to new emotional heights, a kind of liberation that can only come from learning to let go of expectation and embrace the moment.

“I think the time away brought us all more maturity, more patience, an ability to see the bigger picture,” says singer/guitarist Evan Friedell. “We all gained a lot of perspective on life and the value of being in a band together.”

Indeed, the heart and soul of Jimkata has always been the enduring bonds between Friedell and his longtime bandmates, guitarist/keyboardist Aaron Gorsch and drummer Packy Lunn. Pals since middle school, the three launched Jimkata in 2005 while attending Ithaca College, where they quickly found an audience for their relentlessly feel-good performances, which grew from local house parties to club, theater, and festival dates on the strength of a series of critically acclaimed albums. Popdose hailed the band’s “bubbly sweetness,” while American Songwriter praised their “organic chemistry,” and Relix raved that the trio’s sound “proves that rock-based music still has a place in the world of four-on-the-floor beats.”

Jamestown Revival deliver skillful songwriting, flawless harmony, and intricate fingerpicking on their newest album, Young Man. The project is their first without electric guitars and their first to be recorded in a studio. Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance forged a musical bond as teenagers growing up in Magnolia, Texas. They draw musical inspiration from groups like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and The Doobie Brothers, as well as songwriters such as Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt. With themes like coming of age and settling into an identity, Young Man is envisioned as a collection of songs that should be played all the way through. Sonically, the album evokes the experience of musicians huddled together, singing and playing without headphones or click tracks. Chance and Clay are joined on the Young Man sessions by producer Robert Ellis and the band’s longtime rhythm section of bassist Nick Bearden and drummer Ed Benrock.

SubDocta is known for producing his own brand of dubstep and hybrid music that he has dubbed “West Coast Wobble”, paying tribute to his upbringing on the west coast of the US.

In 2018, SubDocta was featured on a number of high profile tours for some of the biggest names in dubstep, playing a multiple sold out shows with Ganja White Night and supporting Riot Ten on his 2018 “Hype or Die” tour. He also opened for Opiuo during his “SYZYGY 01” tour and joined Dirt Monkey’s “Rise of the Octopeel” Tour in the fall. As one of the fastest growing bass acts, he played some of the coolest festivals in North America including Valhalla, Big Dub, Lucidity, The Untz, Enchanted Forest, Infrasound, and SnowTa. Continuously supported by larger artists, he released 2 singles on Borgore’s imprint Fresh Blood and dropped his debut EP named after his signature brand “West Coast Wobble” on Ganja White Night’s SubCarbon Records, which reached #1 on the Beatport top 100 dubstep releases.

2019 started out just as strong with a string of support dates on Excision’s 2019 tour, a ton of headline performances across the country, and multiple festivals, including Forbidden Kingdom, Ever After, Dancefestopia, High Caliber, Freaky Deaky, Lost Lands, and Wakaan. He released his follow up EP “Swonkle” on SubCarbon in June, followed by releases on Boogie T’s Drama Club Records, Dirt Monkey’s 19K Records, and Insomniac’s Bassrush Records. He’s finishing up the year by supporting Ganja White Night on their “The One” tour, spanning more than 30 dates across the country. In late 2011, Matt Myers, Zak Appleby and Shane Cody started playing music together in a historic home in New Albany, Indiana dubbed “The Green House.” Its rooms were adorned with relics from times past, so it was no surprise that songs such as “Penitentiary” bounced off the walls. Nostalgic sounds from their first album seemed to serve as a welcome escape for listeners from the relentless demands of the digital age. But if you asked any one of the guys, they were ‘just having fun.’

Houndmouth signed with legendary indie label Rough Trade Records in 2012. From The Hills Below The City landed them on several world-famous platforms such as fellow lovable Hoosier, David Letterman’s stage. When vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Matt Myers first spoke with big-name producer Dave Cobb prior to working together on their sophomore LP Little Neon Limelight, the two laughingly agreed to “not make another fucking boring Americana record.” A natural sounding album captured in a familiar fashion came together, except this time with a #1 adult alternative radio single in “Sedona.” “I never once thought of us as an Americana band,” says drummer Shane Cody. “The four of us were just a rock band, but some of us had Southern accents,” he laughs. Cue Golden Age, the third album featuring some of the band’s most innovative and experimental songs yet. Coining the term “retro future”, Houndmouth combined creative songwriting with avant-garde instrumentation like the synthesized roar of an actual black jaguar on the track “Black Jaguar”.

The band finds themselves recording and also touring their upcoming untitled fourth album expected to release in 2021. From their humble start, genre-defining hits, and experimentation, Houndmouth has and continues to make their impactful felt with the unique take on storytelling through music.

Passafire
w/ Dubbest

Passafire’s latest single, Keepin’ On,  serves as a mission statement for the veteran rock-reggae outfit as they continue to forge ahead through their second decade of reimagining the boundaries of the current rock-reggae landscape.

Unflinchingly optimistic, Keepin’ On shows off what Passafire does best: expertly blending the macro/political and the micro/personal. The rock-steady anthem weaves together Passafire’s take on global warming, economic uncertainty, and technology’s threat to personal privacy with the band’s dedication to survival, intent on thriving by any means necessary.

“We are very grateful to be where we’re at with awesome fans that sustain and support us,” said Passafire’s bassist Will Kubley. “But every band wants to get to the next level” quickly pointed out lead guitarist/lead singer Ted Bowne. “We keep reaching new milestones and having new meaningful events, but we still have many ambitions we want to achieve. So we’ve got to keep going until we do.”

Passafire is set to embark on their Keepin’ On Tour in spring of 2020, and will play both coasts and the Midwest, as well as several festival dates.

Since forming in 2003, Passafire has released a total of six studio albums and boasts credits like producing with Paul Leary (Sublime, Pepper, U2, Slightly Stoopid), #1 albums on both the Billboard  and iTunes Reggae charts, and sharing stages with rock-reggae OGs 311 and Pepper, and legends Toots & the Maytals, the Wailers, and John Brown’s Body, who in the band’s early years, inspired them to explore reggae with a gritty edge.

“We like to mix tight, clean reggae grooves with distorted guitar riffs” insisted Ted, “We’re ‘90s kids,” added Will, “we love rock, hip-hop and metal equally. It was always natural for us to straddle the line between genres.”

Passafire’s name is a take-off on The Wailers’ classic Catch a Fire album and the band’s hypervigilance towards honoring the culture without appropriating it combined with their unwavering dedication to the expansion of their skills as musicians, producers and songwriters, has led the band to create a sound that stands out from their peers.

From the brimming light of the lead guitar on opener “Saturnine & Iron Jaw” to the mellow grunge unfolding in the finale “Rats in Ruin,” Nothing as the Ideal is a signature All Them Witches release, which of course means it sounds like nothing they’ve ever done before. The Nashville trio thrive on contrast. Now six records deep into a tenure that began in 2012, they are unremittingly forward-looking, and while signature elements can be found throughout Nothing as the Ideal – from guitarist Ben McLeod’s prog-tinged explorations to the slacker-soul vocals of bassist Charles Michael Parks, Jr., to the restless energy and rhythmic nuance in Robby Staebler’s drum patterns – it is also their most experimental work to-date.

Dancing Bears?

Who is Dead Floyd and why do they keep following me around?

Dead Floyd is a celebration of the music of two of rock and roll’s greatest bands, The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, mashed together into one high-energy, unpredictable show. Drawing from both extensive catalogs of music, the Dead Floyd performances include early rarities to modern classics and everything in between. The love of the music of both bands inspires Dead Floyd to uniquely interpret the songs in a way that allows the music to timelessly live on and the legacy of both bands to stay alive to the next generation of fans.  The excitement, creativity, and improvisation that went into both bands live shows of so many years is brought back for old and new fans to enjoy today.

Because the number of songs available from both bands is so large, the question that is heard at every Dead Floyd show is “What will they play next?”  The unpredictability of the set list and the modern translation of classic, beloved songs bring an element of surprise to every Dead Floyd show.  That is what has kept fans captivated and why their legacy as a tribute band continues to grow.

Dead Floyd is based out of Fort Collins, Colorado and, since forming in summer 2009, they have performed at renowned venues such as The Fox Theater, Aggie Theatre, Boulder Theater, Mishawaka Amphitheatre, Belly Up Aspen, and more.  In addition, the band has been consistently voted one of the top tribute bands in Colorado.

The members of the band draw on their roots in jazz, funk, and rock to bring a high level of musicianship to the music and close attention to detail. The band is made up of Charlie Humphreys (guitar, vocals), Josh Miller (bass, vocals), Stu Crair (drums, vocals), and Matt Goldberg (keys, synth).   This group of players has combined to perform over 1000 shows across the country in various original projects including The Grippe, Musketeer Gripweed, Hot Gazpacho, The Maji, Wooleye, Holy Moses and the High Rollers, Orooni, and many more.

The audience response to Dead Floyd has been overwhelming for everyone involved and the fans’ love of the music pushes this project to new heights.  Come to the next show and find out why…

Get A Good Look World Tour

Purpose is at the cornerstone of Sports’ resonance and impressive second album Get A Good
Look. Childhood friends Cale Chronister and Christian Theriot have come to realize that life
can change at any second. Perspectives are reshaped, relationships rise or fall, and home is
anywhere you want it to be. For Sports, it's the intricacies of their lifelong friendship, the
victories and shortcomings of growing up, and the lessons learned along the way that have
influenced their worldview. Growing up on the outskirts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, life for Cale and
Christian revolved around watching MTV and going to church. The pair first met in middle
school and formed an instant connection with both seeking to break out of the conformity of
their quaint small town upbringing. “We have been making and recording music under
different names since we were about 13,” they share. The genesis of Sports would come
almost a decade later. On choosing the name Sports, Cale and Christian show reverence to
their parents. “They’re big sports fans. It’s like we’re fulfilling some childhood dream of
being in the NBA.”

Musically, Sports inspires images of the youthful idyll of bygone times through dulcet melodies
and sun-drenched funk synths. Their elaborate, mind-expanding arrangements are warm and
enveloping, creating a world where David Bowie, The Beach Boys, and The Clash collide.
Sports first introduced themselves with their 2015 debut single “You Are The Right One,” a
concentrated slow drip of funk. Their debut project, Naked All The Time (2015) and its
follow-up, People Can’t Stop Chillin (2016) delivered additional critically-praised singles
including: “Panama,” “Whatever You Want,” and “Someone You’d Rather Be Dating.” The
band returned in 2018 with their first full-length album, Everyone’s Invited, a vibrant offering
that received acclaim from Pitchfork, Pigeons & Planes, and plays on KCRW’s Morning
Becomes Eclectic.

Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway—her brand new band of bluegrass virtuosos featuring mandolinist Dominick
Leslie, banjoist Kyle Tuttle, fiddle player Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, and bassist Shelby Means—will tour the United
States in 2022 in support of Tuttle’s forthcoming Nonesuch Records debut.

An award-winning guitarist and songwriter, native Californian Molly Tuttle continues to push her songwriting in
new directions and transcend musical boundaries. Since moving to Nashville in 2015, she has worked with many
of her peers and heroes in the Americana, folk, and bluegrass communities, winning Instrumentalist of the Year
at the 2018 Americana Music Awards. Tuttle’s 2019 debut album, When You're Ready, received critical acclaim,
with NPR Music praising its “handsomely crafted melodies that gently insinuate themselves into the memory,”
and the Wall Street Journal lauding Tuttle’s “genre-boundary-crossing comfort and emotional preparedness,”
calling the record an “invigorating, mature and attention-grabbing first album.”

Tuttle’s accolades also include Folk Alliance International’s honor for Song of the Year for “You Didn’t Call My
Name,” from her 2017 Rise EP, and consecutive trophies for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s
Guitar Player of the Year; she was the first woman in the history of the IBMA to win that honor.
During the pandemic, Tuttle recorded a covers album, …but i'd rather be with you, which was released in August
2020. The record, which features guest vocals from Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith and Old Crow Medicine Show’s
Ketch Secor, includes songs by musicians ranging from FKA Twigs to Cat Stevens, Rancid to Karen Dalton, and
The National to The Rolling Stones. The New Yorker’s Jay Ruttenberg, in praising her rendition of the Stones’
“She’s a Rainbow,” says: “In Tuttle’s reading, the song uses a bluegrass spirit to look to the past—and a feminist
allegiance to peek at the future.”

DBT is finally back on the road after the year and half pandemic lockdown. Just in time to celebrate our 25th birthday.

The band had just released its 12th studio album in January 2020. The Unraveling was mostly recorded in Memphis at Sam Phillips Recording Service – nine new songs detailing the horrific state of MAGA America in songs that addressed white supremacy, school shootings and the opioid crisis.

The album earned excellent reviews (including later being named “Album of the Year” by Rolling Stone in France) and we set out on the road playing shows up the east coast including NYC, Boston and DC. Unfortunately, the pandemic happened and we only completed one three-week leg of what was supposed to be a 15-month tour.

In lockdown, we all did what we could. Cooley, Jay and I played numerous virtual shows from our respective homes. Matt Patton built up his already successful studio (Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, MS) and album productions including acclaimed records from Bette Smith and Jimbo Mathus. Jay Gonzalez released his third excellent solo album Back to the Hive.

I wrote two new songs inspired by the BLM protests occurring around the country and the federal occupation of my adopted hometown of Portland, OR. We combined them with some tracks we had already recorded in Memphis and released The New OK.

Its nine songs picked up where The Unraveling had left off, continuing the themes of an unraveling country, but also breaking away on a more personal front. It included the title cut single (which had a very moving video centered on the Portland protests) and the song “Tough To Let Go” which displayed a poppier side of the band than is usually mentioned. It got stellar reviews and ended up in UNCUT Magazine’s Top 5 at the end of the year.

With the lockdown ending and shows starting up again, DBT is excited to reactivate in a big way. I have solo dates, Cooley and I are going out to play some Dimmer Twin dates including three shows in NYC and an appearance at the Newport Folk Festival.  DBT will begin playing out in late July with a full-on tour beginning in August that will take us across the USA and our long delayed UK/European Tour next spring.

DBT will also begin work on our 14th studio album; one that should take us in some new directions. On tour, we‘ll be playing songs from all of our albums as well as surely premiering some new ones. As usual, we won’t be using a set list so anything goes.

Turn it up loud and see you at the Rock and Roll Show,

Patterson Hood

After 16 years, eight albums, and hundreds of shows, Joshua Radin still treats music as an antidote to any ailment. The LA-based singer/songwriter finds healing in between waves of acoustic eloquence and dyed-in-the-wool Americana storytelling. On his ninth album The Ghost And The Wall [Nettwerk], the troubadour continues a cycle of catharsis meant to be shared among any and all receptive hearts.

Since 2004, he’s affected countless listeners with palpable transparency, selling over 1 million records, generating 1 billion+ streams, and garnering a gold plaque for single “I’d Rather Be With You.” Landing north of 150 film, television, and commercial syncs, his voice courses throughout the zeitgeist. Among many highlights, First Ladies Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden personally handpicked “Brand New Day” for a commercial in support of the troops. In addition to memorable performances on Ellen, The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, and Today Show, he famously serenaded avowed super fan Ellen DeGeneres and Portia DeRossi during their wedding. Beyond sold out headline shows on four continents, he’s performed alongside Ed Sheeran, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Imogen Heap, and more. He also remains a committed philanthropist, supporting charities like Little Kids Rock and North Shore Animal League America (NSALA), among others.

The Ghost And The Wall was produced entirely remotely by Jonathan Wilson [Father John Misty, Conor Oberst, Dawes}.

Del Water Gap
w/ Special Guests

Del Water Gap is the solo project of songwriter and producer S. Holden Jaffe, born in New
England. He has already amassed a cult-like following with more than 52 million streams
worldwide and a slew of collaborations all before a debut album. Most recently he was
featured on two songs “(Does It Feel Slow?)” and “New Song'' from Maggie Rogers' 2020
album Notes from the Archive: Recordings 2011-2016. In 2020 he collaborated with Claud on
their track “My Body,” which Nylon called “an intimate and bittersweet ballad.”

His newest singles “Sorry I Am,” (his debut release with Mom+Pop) and “Hurting Kind”
have been well received by fans & media alike. “Sorry I Am” is a deeply confessional track,
accompanied by an alluring music video filmed in a picturesque desert in Joshua Tree
directed by Angela Ricciardi. This single follows his breakout 2020 track “Ode To A
Conversation Stuck In Your Throat,” which racked up over 8.5 million streams on Spotify
alone. It was the soundtrack to actors Margaret Qualley and Kaitlyn Dever’s summer
pandemic dance party, and earned praise from Vogue UK as an “ear-worm.”

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Aggie Theatre Presents
Brother Ali
The Travelers Tour
w/ MC Supernatural, DJ Last Word

Brother Ali is a highly respected Hip Hop artist, speaker and community leader from Minneapolis, MN. His two-decade resume includes eight critically acclaimed albums, mentorships with iconic Hip Hop legends Chuck D and Rakim, and performances on late night talk shows with Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien.

His provocative and uplifting brand of Hip Hop has earned him coveted press features like Rolling Stone’s 40th anniversary edition and Source Magazine’s legendary “Hip Hop Quotables”, while his outspoken social justice message has landed him on government watch lists. He’s also lectured at universities from Princeton to Stanford and delivered the keynote address at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum.

When he’s not rocking the mic at Coachella, or being arrested for civil disobedience in support of marginalized communities, Brother Ali travels the world learning and teaching Islamic Spirituality under some of today’s renown Muslim leaders. In addition to leading worship services and classes across the country, he co-founded The Gemali Project, an organization that helps Muslim converts and spiritual seekers access the beauty of the Islamic tradition.

Brother Ali’s latest release, Secrets & Escapes, surprised fans when it was released without warning in November 2019. Evidence from Dilated Peoples provided the beats, delivering a dusty, downtempo, lo-fi soundscape for Ali to revisit his basement roots. Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli and CS Armstrong also bless the special unannounced project with their own genius.
