PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Back in the late ’90s, the guitarist and founding member of “Ridin’ The Storm Out” – Rick Hunter, had the honor of playing and performing with REO’s founding member Gary Richrath for almost 3 years. Their chemistry was evident from the first chords that they played together.
Move forward to 2017, He decided to form an REO Speedwagon Tribute in search of players that loved REO’s music. After being in many successful Tribute bands since 2002, he embarked on celebrating Gary’s Richrath’s contribution to music history by forming this band’s library of hit songs in a tribute for the fans…
Knowing the signature vocal harmonies and musical style were key ingredients to reproduce REO’s sound, the quest was a challenge, but ultimately achieved after joining forces with 2 young unbelievably multi-talented musicians, and 2 other seasoned players, bringing all the pieces together to form –
“Ridin’ The Storm Out” – Tribute To REO Speedwagon… The name comes from the band’s 1st hit in the mid-’70s. REO’s signature song that ends each of their shows.

Detour, on Concord Records, is chart-topping jazz/R&B sax player Boney James’ 18th studio album. Appropriately titled, this latest album is a subtle stylistic turn that builds on the commercial success of 2020’s Solid, his highest charting release ever on the pop charts, peaking in the Top 10 on theBillboard200. “The urge to write again came from the joy of being back on the road, performing in front of live audiences,” explains Boney. “I had shut down creatively when the pandemic hit. It was the disruptive and disorienting detour we all took when the world locked down, and that’s reflected in the more experimental directions some of the new music takes. The thing about a detour, you may take a different route, but you still get to your destination. “Like Solid, Detour provides a welcome respite from an increasingly foreboding world filled with political strife. It’s a trip through James’ distinctive contemporary jazz/R&B landscapes, layered in quicksilver watercolor images and cinematic set pieces. Detour represents the next extension of Boney James’ trademark blend of genres which includes blues, soul, roots, classical, art-pop and hip-hop. “There are some people who think I’m a legend,” laughs Boney about his statuses one of the best-kept secrets in music. “And others who have never heard of me. It’s kind of a nice place to live and play in. I do sense a great deal of positive energy towards the music I’ve been making recently and for that, I’m tremendously grateful. ” coasting’” featuring Lalah Hathaway, a breezy ride through Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway, will be the first single at Urban Adult Contemporary radio. “I am so thrilled to finally have the opportunity to collaborate with Lalah,” says Boney. “I am a huge fan and it was a complete joy to co-write this song and have her come over and sing this amazing performance.” James’ new album gets underway with the title track, a winding, playful duet between sax and piano evoking a breezy, leisurely drive on an open road, that features some of Boney’s most adventurous playing. “I close my eyes and listen,” he says about choosing a name for a particular cut, and “Detour” fits this one perfectly. “The title is my trying to poetically convey what I feel when I listen to the music.” There are also “detours” along the way for a steamy, sweaty summer day in a bluesy “Memphis,” a shimmering glimpse of the aurora borealis via Boney’s chill-inducing soprano sax solo (“Northern Lights”) and even the fleeting present moment in the heartbeat which opens the closing “Blur,” a wistful lullaby that still manages to point us to the future. “Bring It Back,” the first Contemporary Jazz radio focus track, features a patented warm Boney melody, highlighted by a spirited funky point-counterpoint between James’ rhythmic tenor sax and buzzing West Coast new jazz musician Dontae Winslow’s punchy trumpet licks. “That interplay is one of my favorite moments on the album,” says Boney. “Tribute” is a eulogy to Boney’s father, an entertainment attorney who represented him for most of his life, who died last October. It’s a rhythmically complex neo-classical meditation.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Nicolas Reyes has been the leader and co-founder of the Gipsy Kings for well over 30 years. In the past three decades, they have
dominated the World Music charts and sold more than 14 million albums worldwide. Their platinum compilation, The Best of the Gipsy Kings, was charting for over a year upon its release and their ninth studio album, Savor Flamenco, was awarded the Grammy for Best
World Music Album in 2013.
This iconic legacy began when Nicolas’ father, Jose Reyes, formed a celebrated flamenco duo with Manitas de Plata (which boasted fans as famed as Miles Davis and Pablo Picasso). When the pair parted ways, the elder Reyes became even more popular upon starting his own band, backed by his son, called Los Reyes. In later years, Nicolas headed out on his own and began playing in the town of Arles in the south of France. He traveled throughout the country, busking on the streets of Saint-Tropez, playing wherever he could. Having adopted the perpetual motion of the gypsy lifestyle, his band eventually translated “Los Reyes” and became the Gipsy Kings.
The band’s music went on to fuse with popular culture. In addition to the accolades above, the traveling Gipsy Kings have played some of the world’s greatest stages, from the Hollywood Bowl to Royal Albert Hall as well as hitting the big screen. Their rendition of “Hotel California” was included in the film The Big Lebowski and the HBO series Entourage. The 2010 film Toy Story 3 featured a Gipsy Kings version of the movie’s popular, Randy Newman-penned theme, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. The Gipsy Kings recently featured in a Big Lebowski spinoff The Jesus Rolls with Reyes appearing in person with the director and star, John Turturro, for some of the promotion.
As active as this remarkable collective remains, they are also confident in the future of their legacy. “Even though it’s been 30 years, we
want to keep on making new music because it’s our life. It’s who we are,” says Nicolas Reyes. “But I think there will be a time when we
pass down the Gipsy Kings to our sons”.
30 years is an eternity in pop music but the story of the Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes has the depth to endure. Theirs is a music
that extends through generations, to the sounds of their ancestors—Spanish Romani people who fled the Catalonia region during the
Spanish Civil War—and reflects the vibrantly eclectic and peripatetic history of the gitanos.
