PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Ever-evolving artist Bob Mould-whose face belongs on the Mount Rushmore of alternative music-decided to "write to the sunshine," as he describes it, not because he likes the current administration. It comes from a more personal place-a place found in Berlin, Germany, where he's spent the majority of the last three years. Here Mould would draw inspiration from the new environments.

The theme, the cathartic vocals, and the strings all amount to Mould's catchiest, grabbiest album since Copper Blue, the acclaimed 1992 debut of his trio Sugar. Back then, Mould's work in Hüsker Dü, as a solo artist, and in Sugar helped define the sound of guitar rock in the alternative age. Sunshine Rock finds him doing it again for an era that has ostensibly eschewed rock.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
It's hard to imagine a band just coming into their own after 20 years of success, but that's exactly what makes a true anomaly. This multi-national, Celtic juggernaut grows stronger with each live performance, and as you can imagine, after two decades and over 2000 shows, it is a true force to be reckoned with. With their latest release, Go Climb a Tree, their music has never sounded more representative of themselves as musicians and as live performers.

The band attributes their continued success to their fanatic audience, and it's a well-diversified crowd for sure. The country-music folks adore the storytelling, the bluegrass-heads love the instrumentals, Celtic fans love their devotion to tradition, and the rockers simply relish the passion they play their instruments with. Each band member, in their own way, expresses a deep gratitude for their fans, but it's best summed up in the words of Patrick Murphy: "The fans are the ones that have given us this life. We're here for them."

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
"I want it to bring comfort," The Lone Bellow guitarist Brian Elmquist says. "But it's not all hard conversations. There's a lot of light and some dancing that needs to happen." Brian is reflecting on Half Moon Light, the band's highly anticipated new album.

Half Moon Light is an artistic triumph worked toward for years, earned not by individual posturing, but by collective determination and natural growth. With earthy three-part harmonies and songwriting as provocative as it is honest, the trio made up of Brian, lead vocalist Zach Williams, and multi-instrumentalist Kanene Donehey Pipkin creates sparks that make a stranger's life matter or bring our sense of childlike wonder roaring back. On Half Moon Light, The Lone Bellow mix light and dark to muster a complex ode to memory, a call for hope, and an exercise in empathy. Anchored in the acoustic storytelling that first so endeared the band to fans and critics, Half Moon Light also takes more chances, experimenting with textures and instrumental fillips to create a full-bodied music experience. The result is The Lone Bellow's most sophisticated work to date.

"We try to invite as many people into the process to see what we can make together," Brian says. "I like that spirit and that freedom. Then, the songs speak for themselves."

Mustard Plug started out in the punk clubs, basements and dive bars of the Midwest, playing punk-influenced ska music before most people in the U.S. had ever heard of ska. They clung to a DIY work ethic that had been ingrained in them growing up in the 1980's hardcore punk scene and applied it to everything they would ever do together as a band. Mustard Plug released their first cassette tape themselves (1992's Skapocalypse Now!), and played constantly to earn enough money to record their first album - 1994's Big Daddy Mulititude. Their debut full length was released on legendary NYC label Moon Records (home of Toasters, Hepcat, Dance Hall Crashers, and pretty much every other 90's ska band of note). With their new found national distribution and exposure, the band climbed into their van and performed their music to new fans across North America. Twenty-one years, 1500 shows and 200,000 album sales later, it cannot be denied that the band has surpassed all expectations and permanently staked their claim in contemporary music..

It's a beautiful moment when music from the heart and poetry from the soul truly connects with its intended audience. For Satsang lead singer and songwriter Drew McManus, that moment occurred on a 2018 tour through the Midwest, Northeast and Pacific Coast in which two-thirds of the band's dates sold out. That's when the truth hits home for McManus that his soulful, reggae-infused blend of folk-rock and melodic hip hop and its message of strength, growth and resilience is his testimony to the world - and the world is finally listening.

Satsang, in its few short years, has headlined or shared the stage with the likes of Michael Franti & Spearhead, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Trevor Hall, Wookiefoot and many more. The Montana-based quartet is currently enjoying the success of its 2019 release, Kulture, a collection of songs representing the culmination of all the band's influences

"In Kulture, you can hear influences from Motown to 90's hip hop to Tom Petty, but none of it was really intentional," McManus says. "It was just me finally finding my sound. It's authentic. It's the first thing we've made that feels 100 percent like us."

2020 Bell's Beer Garden Summer Concert Series

Doug Martsch formed Built To Spill in 1992. His intention was to sustain a project that would involve a rotating cast of musicians to record albums and tour. The first incarnation of Built To Spill included Doug, Brett Netson, and Ralf (Youtz). Recording in the middle of the night in order to get free studio time, they assembled 1993s Ultimate Alternative Wavers. For a few years and a few records band members came and went.

Their latest release, Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston features Martsch, bassist Jason Albertini and drummer Steve Gere. The songs derive from the band's rehearsals during Johnston's final tour in 2017 when they served as the late songwriter's backing band.

"It was pretty special for us," Martsch tells Rolling Stone of playing with Johnston. "It was a lot heavier than what I thought it would be." As far as the album itself, Martsch added, "Basically we wanted to get a good documentation of what our rehearsals were like." The album was in the final stages of production in September when the cult artist died from natural causes at the age of 58

New Built To Spill lineup features Melanie Radford and Teresa Esguerra.

Southern Culture On The Skids has been consistently recording and touring around the world since its inception in 1983,
when Rick Miller was a grad student at UNC-Chapel Hill.

The current lineup (Dave Hartman - drums; Mary Huff - bass and vocals; Rick Miller - guitar and vocals) has been playing together for over 30 years. The band's musical journey has taken them from allnight NC house parties to late night network talk shows, and from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin' out for the
inmates at NC Correctional Facilities. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, and used to sell everything from diamonds to
pork sausage, and their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock and roll.
