Music and Lyrics by William Finn | Book by Rachel Sheinkin
Directed by Anthony Guest

Remember those middle school years — trying to fit in as a mid-pubescent tween — in search of what makes you, you? If you were athletic, then maybe you found your way on a sports team. If you were a nerd, then maybe you entered the 6th grade spelling bee! Winner of the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, this musical takes us back to that awkward stage of life as six of the most eccentric kids in the school district vie for the coveted title. With the audience serving as the county’s community members, Spelling Bee is fast-paced and uproariously funny, with moving stories that are certain to leave a tear in your eye.

Important health and safety information:

Oakland University has instituted a COVID vaccine mandate for audiences in the Studio Theatre and the Lab Theatre because of the intimate proximity of the performers and audience. Audience members should be prepared to show their vaccination cards and photo ID along with their OU health screening results.  We will not save or photograph the documents, nor keep records of any sort.  Unvaccinated individuals who wish to attend a performance must show both proof of a medical exemption and a recent negative COVID test in order to be admitted.

All guests MUST complete a daily health screening form before arrival to campus and present documentation of approval to come to campus at check-in. At this time, masks are required for entry to any building on campus.

Ticket buyers may receive an email with special instructions on the day of the event. Tickets may be printed at home or presented on mobile devices at the door. ALL EVENTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Any changes or additions to our season calendar will be posted on our website. Maps and parking information are available at oakland.edu/map.
