Back in summer 2021, acclaimed singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, band leader, and rock and roll performer Grace Potter took off on a solo cross-country road trip that would soon bring a life-saving connection with her most unbridled self. The Vermont-born artist spent the coming weeks crashing in roadside motels and taking time each night to transcribe the song ideas she’d dreamed up behind the wheel, often scrawling those notes onto the backs of postcards and motel notepads. After completing two more trips on her own—Potter flew to Nashville for a series of recording sessions that resulted in her most magnificent, unfettered collection of songs to date. Evocative artist-writer Zandi Holup is a wildflower: unique, free as the wind, and blossoming in Music City. Born in Pennsylvania, she drifted from city to city until she found her home in Nashville six years ago. Cut from the same cloth as legendary folk singer-songwriters like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell, Holup's raw brand of original folk country flourishes through unfiltered storytelling reminiscent of Dolly Parton and emphasized by her emotive vocals. A grassroots following placed her on the map as snippets of demos and unreleased songs resonated across social media in increasing numbers. Her first release, “Wait for You,” sat at No. 1 on the all-genre Spotify Fresh Finds playlist, amassing over a million streams with no promotion outside of her TikTok following. She has opened for the likes of 49 Winchester, Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Ann Wilson of Heart, and more. Named a 2023 Artist to Watch by The Nashville Briefing, Holup signed a publishing deal with Arthouse Entertainment and TurnTable Music in partnership with Universal Music Publishing, and a record deal with Big Loud Records in 2023. Hawthorne Heights’ eighth studio album, The Rain Just Follows Me, offers some of JT Woodruff’s most resonant, and personal, writings to date. Candidly exploring the life of a touring musician, he navigates the complex themes of physical and emotional distance from his wife and daughter back in Ohio, while introspectively exploring his personal identity as the frontman of one of the most iconic emo bands of the new millennium.

Throughout Hawthorne Heights’ long and storied career, the band has overcome obstacles at every turn – but these roadblocks always seemed to come from external forces, from unscrupulous record labels and the shifting whims of fickle audiences to unimaginable personal tragedy threatening to derail them.

Despite the odds, the quartet composed of JT Woodruff (Vocals, Guitar), Mark McMillon (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Matt Ridenour (Bass, Backing Vocals), and Chris Popadak (Drums), have overcome it all: earning two Gold albums (2004’s The Silence In Black And White and 2006’s If Only You Were Lonely), penning some of the genre’s most well-known songs (“Ohio Is For Lovers,” “Saying Sorry”), and remaining a hard-touring act nearly two decades after forming in Dayton, Ohio.

In 2022, Hawthorne Heights added festival curator to their resume, launching the Is For Lovers Festival, a North American touring event uniting music aficionados for a day filled with joy, laughter, and camaraderie—all set to an exceptional soundtrack. 2023 saw the expansion of the Is For Lovers Festival to 10 cities, with tens of thousands of fans enjoying the summer spectacle. Featuring performances by a multitude of bands, including Jimmy Eat World, Alkaline Trio, Yellowcard, Underoath, Thrice, The Story So Far, and handpicked emerging artists, the festival also extended its support to local communities through an onsite marketplace and activity center.
