"Who doesn't love Tom Petty?" bassist Darryell Stone asked himself one day in 2012 while listening to the radio. There was only one answer he could imagine, "Nobody." Testing his hypothesis, Stone polled friends, family and fellow musicians how they felt about Petty. The result was always the same. Everyone loves Tom Petty.

One of these fellow musicians just happened to be Tom Petty's doppelganger, guitarist and lead vocalist Jonathan Guthrie. Guthrie was an avid fan and had always fantasized about being a Heartbreaker. As two seasoned musicians and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fans, there was really only one thing for them to do - form a tribute band.

It wasn't hard for Stone and Guthrie to find skilled musicians excited about playing in a Tom Petty tribute band. Drummer Steve Lucas, formerly of Feverdog and a band mate of Stone's local band, Theatrix, quickly signed on. Lucas brought with him his M-80s band mate Glenn Freeman. Freeman, who boasts of seeing multiple Petty concerts in the 80s, brought an instrumental cornucopia to the group with keyboards, harmonica, guitar and backing vocals. Lead guitarist Curt Granger rounded out the lineup. With 30+ years experience in Birmingham's local music scene, Granger has played in such circuit bands as Pyrate, Scream Sophie and his own solo project as well as creating a line of world-renowned boutique guitar amplifiers.

Equipped with decades of experience and a passion for Tom Petty's magic way with songs, The Wildflowers bring music lovers of all stripes what they adore. More Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Damon Johnson has been a triple threat guitarist, singer, and songwriter since his early days of fronting Brother Cane and scoring three #1 singles at rock radio in the 90s ("Got No Shame", "And Fools Shine On", and "I Lie In The Bed I Make").
Since the early 2000's, Johnson has co-written songs for Stevie Nicks, Carlos Santana, Steven Tyler, and Sammy Hagar. He toured the world for several years as guitarist for Alice Cooper and in 2011 joined legendary Irish rock group, Thin Lizzy. In 2013 the core of that band morphed into Black Star Riders and released three well-received albums, of which Johnson co-wrote all the songs.
His much-anticipated full-length solo album, 'Memoirs Of An Uprising', was released worldwide in the Spring of 2019 on Johnson's own label, Double Dragon Records.
VIP Experience includes:
- Pre-show meet & greet and photo with Damon, including a solo acoustic performance + signed commemorative poster + Damon's 2019 M.O.A.U. signature guitar pick and early access to the venue to get the best view!
The Ladies of...featuring James Hall
Birmingham Stages called The Ladies Of... a "Southern Supergroup," and it's true: when Jim Troglen (previously the guitarist for Birmingham outfit The Autumn Lords) founded this band in 2011, he assembled an impressive lineup of musicians who will be well-familiar to anyone who's followed the region's rock scene during the past 30 years. The core members are based out of Atlanta or Birmingham: vocalist/guitarist James Hall (Mary My Hope; Pleasure Club), bassist James Wahl (Promise the Ghost; Stone Cobra), and former Storm Orphans guitarist Mark Patrick and drummer Jack Massey, along with Brooklyn-based vocalist Jaz Jillette, while guitarist Sam Smithwick (Spunkadilly; Smithwick Machine) and bassist Roman Glick (Jackyl; Brother Cain) have also contributed songwriting or performing duties.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Andy Cabic's musical being is, like many curious 21st century musicians, shaped and sustained by divergent tangents. If he's not crafting a melancholy folk rock diamond in his Northern California studio, he's moving a dance floor with bossa nova and house DJ sets, or helping curate a compilation of Japanese City Pop.

What's magic about this new Vetiver LP Up On High is the way these tangents color the ten songs without undermining a distinct move to more elemental, spacious and natural arrangements. At the heart of each of these ten songs is Cabic's voice: sweet, tender and weathered - a welcome and soothing old friend if ever there was one. There are other familiar friends: the album also features longtime engineer and collaborator Thom Monahan and the same resourceful and versatile band that helped Cabic make the more dense and layered Complete Strangers from 2015.

Up On High was written on acoustic guitar. Having moved twice since Complete Strangers, increasingly accustomed to a life in and out of boxes, it was the easiest
instrument to reach for in moments of inspiration. The basic tracking of the album took place over a few Spring days at a friend's house in the high desert of California. This simple set - up captured the organic immediacy of a roomful of friends playing together on the floor. It's alive and ever so subtly crackling with the intensity of a band working together, teasing out the melody and rhythms of songs with warmth and intimacy. Cabic and Monahan took the fruits of this session to Los Angeles and finished the album at Monahan's studio over the summer as other friends popped by to lend their talents.

This album reflects the world that Cabic created and lives in: Jorge Ben phrasings peek out from behind Tom Petty's Wildflowers outtakes, a gentle jangle lifts whispers of REM's Murmur on a breeze up from Compass Point Studios. But Up On High is most clearly Cabic and his band inhabiting the realm the band was born in - sleek, economical, soulful, and sometimes sadness - tinged melodies riding on the gentle choogle and sway of an ensemble moving in beautiful unison. This is an album that breathes with you in real, lived in, natural time.

Sugarcane Jane, otherwise known as Anthony Crawford and Savana Lee from L.A. (Loxley, Alabama)- have been Americana's go-to husband-wife duo from Alabama's Gulf Coast for over a decade. Between them, they have amassed a rich musical heritage working with such notables as Neil Young, Steve Winwood, and Dwight Yoakam. The music they make together is simple and direct, rooted in country and rock, and anchored by their sweet and soulful harmonies.

After a request from Dwight Yoakam to put a backing band behind them and join his Fall 2019 Northeast Tour as support act, they welcome longtime friends, The Bucket Fillers, to their ensemble - a staggering and undeniable amount of talent now charges the stage - Pete Nice on pedal steel, lap steel, and mandolin, Leif Bondarenko on drums, and Gary Edmonds on electric guitar, all hailing out of Birmingham, Alabama.

The WorkPlay Theatre was built to make the audience leave saying WOW! WorkPlay has been bringing the most incredible shows to Birmingham for over 15 years. Simply put, it has superb sounding acoustics. Much thought went into everything from the construction of the room, to the dimples in the walls, to the metal railings making the acoustics sound amazing! There is not a bad seat in this listening mecca! The room seats a total of 325 people with a capacity of 450 standing and seated. The theater is primarily a General Admission room, but does offer limited seating and tables. Due to the demand for seating, we have a table reservation program for those who wish to guarantee they have a seat at a show. Sometimes, when you arrive there may be some tables available at a first come, first serve basis, but they go VERY quickly, be sure to guarantee that you have your seat and table in advance of the show. Please contact Bryan for more information - bryan@workplay.com.
