Marvelous Funkshun (Website)

Featuring soaring guitar and pedal steel over a heavy groove, Marvelous Funkshun blends Funk, Southern Rock, Blues, Sacred Steel, Hip Hop and R&B. The band has toured heavily throughout the Southeast since 2014 and they have solidified a unique sound and supportive fan base from North Carolina to Florida. The live shows are a dynamic, foot-stomping get down and “The Funkshun”, as fans have been known to call them, have shared the stage with many of the top names in the jam scene.

DOCO (Website)

Dave Burkart on drums, Josh Booth on bass, Trevor Booth on guitar.

Trevor and Josh are descended from the family of John Wilkes Booth, whose ill-fated oil speculation venture bore the name Dramatic Oil Company, abbreviated D.O. Co. Many historians consider the Dramatic Oil Company a desperate man's last clutch at reality before going insane and shooting someone in a crowded theater. We just think it's sort of interesting. Doco has been together for nearly ten years, in which time they have played all over the country in 31 states, from the east coast to the west coast, the southerners and the yankees, Doco has rocked them all. Currently in the studio working on new material, which will be posted periodically.

Sylvia Rose Novak (Website)

A tiny woman with a huge presence, Sylvia Rose Novak is a multi-instrumentalist hailing from south-central Alabama. Having been painted as a "dark and brooding intellectual" via her songwriting, Novak's best known, among her fans, to captivate an audience with her sharp sense of humor. Her carefully worded banter leads listeners delicately into her songs, much like the prologue of a book, or a narrator in a movie.

Drawing inspiration from writers such as Cormac McCarthy, Donald Ray Pollock, and Flannery O'Connor; Sylvia Rose Novak has crafted a unique style of songwriting that might, itself, be called Southern Gothic. Novak's resonant vocals couple with her unconventionally structured songs to create a listening experience that is akin to becoming immersed in a short story.

While Novak primarily fronts her band on the fiddle, she's the bassist for Birmingham rock outfit Five Shot Jack. She is also their primary songwriter. Over the last few years, on the heels of her three record releases, Novak has toured the United States extensively.

Having opened for acts such as American Aquarium, Chris Knight, If Birds Could Fly, The Ghost of Paul Revere, Heath Green and the Makeshifters, Mike and the Moonpies, Will Hogue, Rod Picott, Caleb Caudle, and Belle Adair; Novak's musical career has seen forward momentum with her third album, Someone Else's War, receiving major press attention.

Jeffrey Dean Foster (Website)

Long before the Americana movement caught fire – before the genre even had a name – Jeffrey Dean Foster was synthesizing folk, rock and roots music with the Right Profile, the Carneys and the Pinetops. The 1998 Pinetops album Above Ground and Vertical showed the individuality of Foster's vision, but it was the long-awaited release of Million Star Hotel, his first solo album, that finally gathered all facets of his musical vision in a uniformly spectacular fashion. Upon the release of Foster's latest, The Arrow, Stereophile Magazine commented, "This is the kind of album that will stop you in your tracks." Most recently, Foster composed the entire soundtrack for the upcoming Angus Maclachlan film, “Abundant Acreage Available,” starring Amy Ryan.

Once the curtain opens, GiddyUP! Film Tour unveils films from around the globe showcasing exactly why we all love to ride… A love of tight and twisty singletrack, finding that perfect gravel road for an adventure, grinding out a solid effort all the way to the top of a road climb or simply shedding all the stress from a long day.

Our headliners this year are Shared Territory, see what happens when two friends set out on an adventure to ride through the rugged terrain in the middle of Iceland. And In Amy’s Footsteps, this is a tribute to the life of Amy Dombroski and how she's impacted cyclists in many countries since her death in 2013.

The Way Down Wanderers (Website)

Often referred to by fans as one of the hardest-working, hardest-touring bands on the circuit today, the 5-piece Illinois-based act not only proves that classification with their jam-packed tour schedule but also on stage every night, with youthful exuberance and a lively stage show, as reliable as it is infectious. High energy percussion, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo and fiddle weave seamlessly together to create an experience for fans that has sold out shows across the UK and the United States, filling the front rows with fans not just singing along to one tune, but singing along to all of them. “Everybody says it. We’d be nothing without our supporters. Yeah, they buy tickets and of course we love that, but when we’ve been on the road for 10 hours and walk onto a stage road weary and we see familiar faces singing along, it’s hard to describe. It's everything, really. There’s a whole lot of love there.”

Music enthusiasts are not the only ones taking note. Critics and tastemakers alike have awarded the young artists an impressive number of accolades ranging from official showcases at AmericanaFest (2018) and International Bluegrass Music Association (2016) to Whitstable UK Session of the Year (2017), a BBC Scotland Session (2017) as well as Finalist, International Song Writing Competition (2015 & 2016), Chicago’s Best Emerging Artist, Deli Magazine (2014) and Songpickr’s Best Songs Spotify Playlist (2016) among others. The young men are no strangers to the festival circuit either, having played major National and Regional Festivals such as Merlefest, Summer Camp, Red Wing Roots Music Festival and Saskatchewan Jazz Fest all across the United States, Canada and the UK. The band has also graced the stage of coveted venues such as Bluegrass Underground (TN), The Fox Theater (CO), Park West (IL), The Vogue (IN) The Station Inn (TN) The Ark (MI), and countless others.

Whiskey Foxtrot (Website)

Whiskey Foxtrot is an Americana band from Winston-Salem, NC founded by Seth Williams and Sam Foster in 2017. Both Seth and Sam had been performing as solo artists for several years around North Carolina, and on various occasions would perform shows together. After they decided to team up together to form Whiskey Foxtrot in 2017, they quickly became a regional favorite. They play hundreds of shows per year across North Carolina and Virginia while continuing to grow a following in the Southeastern US, including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Seth and Sam formed Whiskey Foxtrot with a common goal: to write, record, and perform their own material for audiences across the country.

Whiskey Foxtrot is comprised of Seth Williams (Vocals/Guitar,) Sam Foster (Vocals/Guitar,) Brad Cardille (Bass/Vocals,) Terry VunCannon (Lap Steel,) and Steven Worley (Drums.) The group can perform as an acoustic duo, trio, 4-piece acoustic band, or with the full five-piece band. The group is primarily influenced by Blackberry Smoke, American Aquarium, Waylon Jennings, The Allman Brothers Band, Tom Petty, and The Eagles just to name a few. Their music is a combination of country, blues, and rock 'n roll, which is reflective of these influences.

Town Mountain (Website)

Raw, soulful, and with plenty of swagger, Town Mountain has earned raves for their hard-driving sound, their in-house songwriting and the honky-tonk edge that permeates their exhilarating live performances, whether in a packed club or at a sold-out festival. The hearty base of Town Mountain's music is the first and second generation of bluegrass spiced with country, old school rock ‘n’ roll, and boogie-woogie. It's what else goes into the mix that brings it all to life both on stage and on record and reflects the group's wide-ranging influences – from the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia and the ethereal lyrics of Robert Hunter, to the honest, vintage country of Willie, Waylon, and Merle. The Bend Bulletin’s Brian McElhiney says Town Mountain, “has serious country and rock ’n’ roll DNA.” Town Mountain features guitarist and vocalist Robert Greer, banjoist Jesse Langlais, mandolinist Phil Barker, fiddler Bobby Britt, and Zach Smith on bass.

Town Mountain just finished recording their 6th studio album at Echo Mountain Studios with roots music hero Caleb Klauder producing. Slated to release October 26th, the album is full of new material and features several guest artists including Tyler Childers who co-wrote one of the songs, Miles Miller (Sturgill Simpson, drummer), and other friends. Their most recent album, Southern Crescent, (April 1, 2016) debuted at #4 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart while staying for ten weeks on the Americana Music Association's radio chart Top 40, and widely considered one of the best bluegrass albums of that year.

Zoe & Cloyd (Website)

Hailing from opposite ends of the Appalachian mountains, Asheville, NC based duo Zoe & Cloyd is acclaimed fiddler and vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist John Cloyd Miller. Natalya trained classically in her home state of Massachusetts before moving south in 2004. John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. Their debut duet recording, Equinox (2015) and 2017 follow-up, Eyes Brand New, both met with high praise and the pair have continued to gain momentum with their brand of “New Appalachian Music” at performances and festivals all across the country. Joined by renowned bassist Kevin Kehrberg and master banjoist Bennett Sullivan, Zoe & Cloyd electrify audiences with soaring harmonies and heartfelt songwriting, seamlessly combining original folk, bluegrass, klezmer and country with sincerity and zeal. Their eagerly anticipated third studio album, produced by Jon Weisberger, will be released on Organic Records in September 2019.

STIG (Website)

STIG is an all-instrumental Psychedelic Nu-Funk band based out of Asheville, North Carolina, consisting of 5 best friends from a myriad of places both geographically and musically, including Ryan Stigmon on saxophone, Thomson Knoles on keyboards, Artie Sadtler on bass, Jack McChesney on drums, and Riley Hoover on guitar. They are individually influenced by jazz, funk, metal, bluegrass, psychedelic rock, and beyond. A day in the STIG tour van is soundracked by an absurd potluck of 5 musical brains and their live shows artfully weave their improvisational nature with tight communication and 3 years of playing and growing together, to create a high energy, exploratory and engaging experience.

Unaka Prong (Website)

Meeting in Boone, NC through Appalachian State's Hayes School of Music, Unaka Prong began as a joint collaboration of songwriting in 2013 between John Hargett, Mike Welsh, Daniel Stevenson, Jonathon Sale, and Chris Pope.

Over the past six years, Unaka Prong has been sculpting a sonically unique identity. Offering a fresh and memorable musical experience that many fans have described as a melding between prog rock groups like King Crimson, jazz funk groups like Soulive, and psychedelic jam rock groups like Phish. Combining odd meters, funky grooves, and earnest lyricism, their latest release, 'Salinity Now!', reflects the group honing in their songwriting with each stylistic direction. Recently the band has been busy touring the east coast performing at music festivals and clubs alike supporting notable acts including Tauk, Col. Bruce Hampton, Moon Taxi, Toubab Krewe, Jonathon Scales Fourchestra, and Dumpstaphunk.

TUB (Website)

The band consists of Dennis Brumback (guitar/vox), David Murray (bass/vox), Daniel Combs (keys/vox), and Marcus Clonts (drums/great attitude).

Aaron Lee Tasjan (Website)

Most people know Aaron Lee Tasjan as one of the wittiest, most offbeat, brilliant, weed-smokin’ & LSD microdosin’ Americana troubadours writing and singing songs today. And the New York Times, NPR and Rolling Stone will all gladly corroborate. But steel yourselves, folk fans, because he’s about to follow his restless muse straight out from under the weight of everyone’s expectations into the kind of glammy, jingle-jangle power-pop- and- psych-tinged sounds he hasn’t dabbled in since his younger days playing lead guitar for a late-period incarnation of The New York Dolls.

Really, the roots of Tasjan’s new record, Karma for Cheap, stretch even deeper, drinking up the sounds of a Southern California childhood spent listening to The Beatles while riding around with his mom at the wheel of their navy blue Volvo station wagon—back to the very first pre-teen year he picked up a six-string and started figuring out all the pretty little chords in those Lennon-McCartney tunes. Back to the pure, blissful unfiltered innocence of falling in love with music for the first time.

Lilly Hiatt (Website)

"Gonna hang on a little bit longer, sleep well, work a little harder; put my faith in something I can't see," sings Lilly Hiatt on the title track of her third LP, Trinity Lane. It's a set of honest words from an album of personal truths; a collection of songs that take stock of where she's been, where she's going and the challenges she's weathered to get there. Produced by Michael Trent of Shovels & Rope, Trinity Lane is indeed about hanging on, working hard and keeping the faith, centered on songwriting that melds the observational with the confessional and never tries to follow any particular genre code – the guitar riffs are as Seattle as they are southern, the topics are modern as they are built on the past. East Nashville's Trinity Lane is where Hiatt lives, and Trinity Lane is a document of what lives inside her.

Paul Thorn (Website)

Raised in Tupelo, Mississippi, among the same spirits (and some of the actual people) who nurtured the young Elvis generations before, Paul Thorn has rambled down back roads, battled four-time world champion boxer Roberto Duran on national television, signed with and been dropped by a major label, performed on stages with Bonnie Raitt, Mark Knopfler, Sting, and John Prine among many others, and made some of the most emotionally restless yet relatable music of our time. With 20 years of writing, touring, and entertaining under his belt, he shows no sign of slowing down with his new record, Don’t Let the Devil Ride, breaking genre barriers and topping charts, putting a new twist on his already-entertaining live show.

Kenny Roby (Website)

Kenny Roby is a founding member of 6 String Drag. Their 1997 album “High Hat” was released to national critical acclaim. (co-produced by Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy and released on Earle’s Warner Brothers imprint label E-Squared). In 1998, Roby went solo and released three excellent but vastly different solo records: Mercury’s Blues, Rather Not Know, and The Mercy Filter. His latest album, Memories & Birds, came out in 2013.

Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives (Website)

With legends like George Jones, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard all passed on, country music purists often echo the question Jones himself asked: “Who’s going to fill their shoes?” The answer, in part, is Marty Stuart.

While he’s too gracious to admit it himself, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician is living, breathing country-music history. He’s played alongside the masters, from Cash to Lester Flatt, who discovered him; been a worldwide ambassador for Nashville, Bakersfield and points in between; and safeguarded country’s most valuable traditions and physical artifacts. Including its literal shoes: Stuart counts the brogan of Carter Family patriarch A.P. Carter and an assortment of Cash’s black boots among his vast collection of memorabilia.

But most importantly, Stuart continues to record and release keenly relevant music, records that honor country’s rich legacy while advancing it into the future. Way Out West, his 18th studio album, hits both of those marks. Produced by Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), the album is a cinematic tour-de-force, an exhilarating musical journey through the California desert that solidifies Stuart as a truly visionary artist.

VIP PACKAGE: THE BIG CHIEF SPECIAL

Shinyribs (Website)

Once you’ve seen Shinyribs’ Kevin Russell on-stage and heard his band’s music, it’s impossible to forget. Known for his outrageous outfits and antics, he’s a regular fashion icon, liable to turn up in anything from his lime-green sherbet leisure suit to a flashing LED cloak, which he recently donned for a soulful performance of “East Texas Rust” on the award-winning PBS show Austin City Limits.

Born and raised in Beaumont, East Texas, Russell’s been variously dubbed (mostly by himself), the Baryshnikov of the Big Thicket, the Pavarotti of the Pineywoods, the Shakespeare of Swamp Pop, or the Shiniest Man in Showbidniz. One of the pioneers of Americana as a member of The Gourds, Russell took his musical inspiration from the fertile Ark-La-Tex turf. In the immortal words of the title track to their most recent album, “I Got Your Medicine,” Shinyribs have the cure to whatever ails you, moving that ass until you’re a helpless member of the Kevin Russell-led “all-in” conga line which snakes through the audience at the close of every show.

“It’s the universal dance anyone can do,” he says. “Nobody feels self-conscious or out of place. It’s a great way to get everybody involved. You can’t really top that.”

Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters (Website)

“We’re switching things up a little. After four albums I’ve decided to step out and start using my own name. It’s something that a lot of people have encouraged me to do over the years, and I guess that 2017 just felt right.” That name, Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters, is also the title of the band’s new album, which will be released by Organic Records on June 9, 2017. “We’re keeping The Honeycutters too because we don’t want to confuse people…really, we’ve always been Amanda Anne Platt and the Honeycutters. I think I’ve just gotten to a place where I feel comfortable enough to be in the spotlight.”

Lyrically driven, the songs on Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters blend the band’s old-school country roots attitude with their shared influences of rock and folk. Amanda says of the album, “I think it’s just about life and all that that entails. Including but not limited to death, strangers, birthdays, money, leaving, arriving, seasons, corruption, and love.”

Performing along with Platt, The Honeycutters are Matt Smith on pedal steel and Stratocaster, Rick Cooper on bass, Josh Milligan on drums and harmony vocals, and Evan Martin on keys and Telecaster.

Bonnie Montgomery (Website)

Upon first listening to Bonnie Montgomery, it’s easy to mistakenly assume that you’ve stumbled upon a long-buried track by a legend from the golden era of country/western music. Such is the artistry of this Arkansas native and silver-voiced songstress. Her story is of her journey, but she presents it through a folk/bluegrass/country perspective that’s traditional and timeless.

the bo-stevens (Website)

Having opened for acts as big as Dwight Yoakam, Asleep at the Wheel, and The Avett Brothers, the bo-stevens are more likely to be found in the same honky tonk haunts that birthed the music. Traveling from Memphis to Charleston, Richmond to Atlanta, playing within a vibrant and supportive music scene, the bo-stevens is preparing for a second decade on the road.
