PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Portland's finest musicians perform the songs of Crosby, Stills & Nash with CSN guitarist Jeff Pevar!  Featuring members of Nowhere Band, Decemberists, Saloon Ensemble, Love Gigantic and more!

How often do you get to see / hear the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) live?  Judy Blue Eyes is a brand-new project birthed during the lock-down.  Says singer John Averill “I’ve always felt that the music of CSN - in particular the vocal harmonies - have held some kind of mystical quality for me.  About 6 years ago I had the idea of diving into CSN material and dissecting the harmony parts and perform it live, but there was never the time do devote to it.”

Enter 2020, when all live music stopped.  Feeling the acute void of singing with other people, Averill (along with fellow Nowhere Band-mates Sarah King and Jason Wells on vocals, and David Langenes on guitar and vocals) met casually in Averill’s backyard.  “After less than a dozen rehearsals scattered over a year, we realized we had learned 12 tunes.  Since then we’ve begun diving into Neil Young material for a longer show."

In July of 2021 word of Judy Blue Eyes leaked out and the yet-not-completely-formed band was offered a private gig, and other members were brought in fulfill the sound.  “In terms of lead guitar, the most unexpected thing happened when I was contacted by Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, David Crosby, Joe Cocker, James Taylor, etc.).  He lives in Ashland and actually plays lead guitar with CSN!, so the fact that he was available and interested blew my mind.”

Rounding out the band is a stellar cast of Portland-based musicians, featuring Rachel Blumberg (Califone) on drums, Jenny Conlee (Decemberists) on keys, Greg Hyatt (Berthaline) on bass.

For fans of CSN&Y, and for those who have witnessed the vocal harmony prowess of the Nowhere Band’s Beatles (White Album Xmas, etc) shows, this is a must see/hear evening.  The show will feature familiar CSN&Y favorites, as well as deep cuts for the die-hard fan.

About She’s Speaking:

Women’s voices and contributions matter.

Named for Vice President Kamala Harris’ now-famous line from the 2020 vice presidential debate, the She's Speaking project began as the brainchild of Oregon singer-songwriters Bre Gregg, Kristen Grainger, and Beth Wood to lift up and amplify women's voices.

Gregg, Grainger, and Wood invited women songwriters from across all genres, backgrounds, and experiences to write an original song about a woman who has inspired them. The three co-founders collaborated during the pandemic shutdown to launch the She's Speaking YouTube channel to elevate all of these original songs and share them worldwide. With more than 60 contributing artists and hundreds of subscribers, this vibrant community of women artists continues to grow.

She’s Speaking’s co-founders are committed to amplifying women’s voices, promoting songs written about women, by women, for everyone.

Paul Thorn has created an innovative and impressive career, pleasing crowds with his muscular brand of roots music—bluesy, rocking and thoroughly Southern American, yet also speaking universal truths. Among those who value originality, inspiration, eccentricity and character—as well as talent that hovers somewhere on the outskirts of genius, the story of Paul Thorn is already familiar.

Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, raised among the same spirits (and some of the actual people) who nurtured the young Elvis generations before, Paul Thorn has rambled down back roads and jumped out of airplanes, worked for years in a furniture factory, battled four-time world champion boxer Roberto Duran on national television, performed on stages with Bonnie Raitt, Mark Knopfler, Sting, and John Prine among many others, and made some of the most emotionally restless yet fully accessible music of our time.

He’s also appeared on major television shows, received numerous National Public Radio features and charted multiple times on the Billboard Top 100 and Americana Radio Charts.

Dar Williams was always in the right place at the right time for the success she’s had over a 25+-year career. She rose out of the vibrant mid-90’s Boston scene, inspired by the eclectic influences of alt-rockers, Berklee jazz musicians, slam poets, and folk artists, like Patty Griffith, Melissa Ferrick, the Throwing Muses, Vance Gilbert, and Jonatha Brooke.

After a year of touring non-stop with her first album, The Honesty Room, in 1994, she was invited by Joan Baez to tour in Europe and The United States. Meanwhile, thanks to her avid supporters and 100,000+ sales for each new album, Dar’s literate but highly-listenable songs were showing up everywhere from commercial radio to college reading lists.

She is excited to be returning to the road with a new album titled “I’ll Meet You Here” to be released by Renew/BMG in the fall of 2021.

Located in the heart of the eclectic Alberta Arts District, the Alberta Rose originally opened as a motion picture house in 1927 and showed films until it closed in 1978. The theatre has 300 fixed seats and radiates the serene feeling of a Spanish-Colonial courtyard. The Alberta Rose is a mid-size, seated listening room where the audience can enjoy excellent lines of sight, outstanding acoustics and where every seat feels close to the stage and the artist.
