Ruthie brings her band along this time and will rock the Rose!
Ruthie Foster is a four-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who mixes a wide palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. Described by Rolling Stone as “pure magic to watch and hear,” her vocal talent was elevated in worship services at her community church. Drawing influence from legendary acts like Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, Foster developed a unique sound unable to be contained within a single genre. That uniqueness echoes a common theme in Ruthie’s life and career - marching to the beat of her own drum.
Healing Time is the latest jewel in Foster’s accomplished career, which includes multiple Grammy nominations and collaborations with fellow luminaries like Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. For her latest, Foster contributed more to the writing process than she had on any of her previous albums, effectively refining her own song craft in the process. “With this album, I dug deep and tried to go for the best way to write,” she explains. “This album says a lot about the period we were making it in, and how I wanted to find my way out of it.”
Ruthie Foster’s ninth studio album represents a new high water mark for the veteran blues artist—a collection of songs possessing pure power, like a tidal wave of musical generosity. Healing Time finds Foster pushing her boundaries as a singer and songwriter more than ever before, creating a truly live-sounding atmosphere with the help of her band, who sound refreshingly loose and lived-in throughout these 12 songs. We’ve all been in need of some healing in recent times, and Foster’s latest provides a guide for how to move through the world with equal parts compassion and resolve.
Alberta Rose fave Jeff Plankenhorn opens the show.

Tony Starlight's Neil Diamond Tribute
A Music and Comedic Salute to the Anointed One
Musical comedian Tony Starlight shall Neil before you! Starlight fronts a seven-piece band that performs a loving tribute to Neil Diamond with equal parts heart and laughter. Musically the performance is spot on, in fact Tony Starlight sounds so much like Diamond, that fans have remarked, “it’s eerie!” But what makes this show special are the laughs.Whether its monologues about the lifestyle of a living legend and the burdens of carrying around such enormous talent, or challenging the audience to perform better, or an all-new take on “You Don’t Bring me Flowers”, no other Diamond tribute is this much fun. And we guarantee it’s the only tribute with simulated figure skating! Here’s the kicker: Even people who don’t like Neil Diamond, like this show! (You know what you call people who don’t like Neil Diamond, don’t ya? LIARS!)

NATIONAL GUITAR is a Paul Simon tribute band featuring Pacific Northwest all stars musicians from Polecat, Petty or Not, Skillethead, and the Jenner Fox Band. The ensemble was formed on a fateful election night when they found themselves listening to “American Tune” and discovered a mutual reverence for Paul Simon. National Guitar performs a range of Simon’s music from Garfunkel to Graceland and everywhere in between. Come prepared to sing along, groove, and celebrate some of the finest music from a true American original.
The five piece band features piano, organ, electric guitar, bass, dobro, percussion, acoustic guitar, and layered vocal harmony. With decades of arranging and touring under their belts, National Guitar brings new life to Simon’s beloved catalog.
JENNER FOX is a multi-faceted, uber-talented individual who makes people feel better when they're around him. I've witnessed the unique twinkle in Jenner's eye in 2 separate arenas. One was when his hands are on the oars of a raft, smiling in the calm, blue-green pool below a powerful Class V section of the famous Futaleufú River in Patagonia. The other is in a dimly lit lodge, sitting on sheepskins under the Southern Cross in the sky above while he pours his soul into filling the space with his powerful music. In either venue, Jenner is inspiring, encouraging, and up-lifting.On the river and on the road, Jenner is a folk singer with music that ranges from a soft mandolin melody to full-blown guitar strumming that has strings on the edge of breaking. He draws his influence from river canyons, urban communities, John Prine, Josh Ritter, and the people, roads, and stories in between.
JENNER FOX BAND features Oregon’s tuba state champion Aaron Moore on electric bass, and former members of the beloved Northwest outfit Polecat – Jeremy Elliott on electric guitar and Aaron Guest on keys, this band is not one to be missed.
“Jenner combines the lyricism of Joni Mitchell and the commentary of Neil Young to represent the next generation of singer songwriters.” - Grammy nominated producer, Cookie Marenco

Evolution Under the Influence: Alcohol and the Coevolution of Humans and Yeast
Have you ever sat down at a bar, ordered a beer, and thought to yourself, “Why do humans even have so many specific genes for breaking down alcohol?” This is what happens when a guy with a PhD in Molecular and Medical Genetics from OHSU starts making booze professionally. The answer, as it turns out, takes you a long way back in human history; our relationship with yeast (the organism that makes alcohol), predates human evolution.
At this Science on Tap, Dr. Kevin McCabe, Winemaker, Enologist, and Beekeeper at Double Strand Wine, will take you through the history of primate alcohol consumption, the importance of yeast and alcoholic fermentation to human history, and how early microbiology turned the tables on yeast and gave humans control over our boozy destiny.Tickets:
