Parker Smith and the Bandwith

All aching pedal steel and cigarette-soaked pleas, Atlanta folk/Americana artist Parker Smith seems to put his own spiritual turmoil in a chokehold, elevating it until he squeezes out the elegant songs that make for his sophomore LP, Underground. Unlike most of his peers in the Americana community, Smith manages to defy being pigeonholed by inflecting his music with touches of blue-eyed soul (“Fray”), Asbury Park-indebted blues-rock (“Holy Water”), and even Gordon Lightfoot (“Arrowroot”). Of course, this album wouldn’t have been possible were it not for the crack-team of artists and players he assembled. Colin Agnew and Noah Kess both lent their production and mixing talents, while Colin also played drums and percussion and John Kingsley (pedal steel), Mimi Naja (backing vocals), Chris Case (keys), and Kelly McFarling (backing vocals) round out the supporting cast. These are songs not easily shaken from memory, with their raw, confessional nature and hummability: Underground grapples with pain, guilt, and heartbreak, on this breathtaking work of Americana.

Chuck grew up in the South Carolina Lowcountry,a Southern boy whose voice echoes the R&B, Rock & Roll, Gospel, and Country music he grew up listening to. He is a multi-award-winning songwriter whose genre defying songs have been covered by an incredibly diverse array of mega-stars ranging from Pop artists Paul Carrack (Mike &The Mechanics, Squeeze and Ace) to Folk Rock’s Shawn Mullins, Rodney Crowell and Antje Duvekot, to Country artists George Jones, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Wynonna Judd, George Strait and Toby Keith, to Euro-Pop super-groupBoyZoneand80’s rock superstar band Night Ranger, and Gospel’s Russ Taff and Bebe Winans.

Chuck’s chart-topping songs have logged over 25 million terrestrial radio airplays, over 700 million streams, and he has been the recipient of numerous coveted BMI Million-Air awards. His song,“I Love The Way You Love Me,” won The Academy of Country Music Song of the Year. His critically acclaimed solo music projects, “GOD SHAPED HOLE,”“LOVE AND MONEY,” and “SYMPHONY OFSCARS” sing with haunting productions and wide-open spaces surrounding songs that tell the tales of the weary and broken who live through the messes, lose their faith in the bad religion and still believe in the magic. His spoken-word project, “TRUE STORIES AND OTHERLIES:VOLUME ONE," is a collection of soul-deep stories that rides the listener down a twisted journey of laughter and tears through the life of an artist of The American South.

His latest solo project, “MACHINE,” is a wild song-ride down back-roads where houses still have tin roofs, screen doors and front porches; where rivers run with memories of places we can’t go again-then along sad city streets where dreams are swallowed whole by cold clanging contraptions of our own making. His wry socio-political commentary takes no sides, save that of the common folk who work hard, laugh loud and know only one thing for sure; we are lost without love. Chuck is, first and last, a Songwriter; and no one interprets a song like the writer of the song. His unique guitar style and engaging stories make for riveting live performances that will leave you wanting more. . .

In a town bursting at the seams with songwriters, it was a stroke of Nashville serendipity that found Americana artists Alice Wallace and Caitlin Cannon seated next to each other at songwriter’s round back in 2018. Now, two and a half years later, with an armful of co-written songs that deftly straddle the line between class and crass, Wallace and Cannon have decided to take their shared love for a heartbreaking hook and punchy turn of phrase and form their own band.

They call that band Side Pony.

To introduce Side Pony to the world, Wallace and Cannon plan to release a timely single called “Lucky Break” this spring, which lobs a metaphorical curveball in the direction of the pandemic that has upended the careers of so many in the music industry. The song aims to flip perception inside-out, as if the gift of time had been given to us for a collective reevaluation.

“Lucky Break” was recorded at the East Nashville studio of producer/guitarist Doug Lancio (Patty Griffin/John Hiatt/Todd Snider), with accompaniment from Chris Autry (Josh Turner) on bass, Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris) on drums and Dan Mitchell on keys. It was a chance for Cannon and Wallace to record with some of the best Nashville has to offer. Combine that with the sound that neo-meets-timeless producer Lancio was able to capture, and the entire experience was very lucky, indeed.

“Alice Wallace is a powerhouse of a singer, in the classic definition,” says Lancio, who spent 14 years touring with Patty Griffin, and produced her 2002 album 1000 Kisses. “I’ve wanted to work on a record with her since I first heard her voice. Alice introduced me to her collaborator/ co-writer Caitlin, and turns out, Caitlin has an equally compelling voice with a distinct personality. It’s rare enough to work with singers of this caliber on their own, let alone have both of them singing material they’ve discovered together.”

When the two songwriters first met, Cannon was spending half of her time in Nashville, writing sometimes 3 songs a day in a mad frenzy of creativity before packing it up and heading back home to Colorado to tend to the hair salon she owned. And Wallace, then based in California, was in Nashville for only two weeks that September to perform at the Americana Music Festival when she found her way into a songwriter night on the west side of town. So it really was a touch of that sometimes elusive luck that found the two writers in the same place at the same time on that night back in 2018. The chemistry between the two was immediate, and they wrote their first song the very next morning sitting on the teal songwriting couch at Cannon’s Hermitage home. The first song of many.

JOSHUA RAY WALKER

Once the best-kept secret of Dallas’ music scene, Joshua Ray Walker catapulted himself into the international spotlight with his 2019 debut, Wish You Were Here. An album of character-driven songwriting and golden-era Texas twang, Wish You Were Here didn’t just nod to the larger-than-life troubadours who’d inspired Walker’s craft — it brought him into their ranks, too, adding Walker’s name to the shortlist of songwriters worthy of carrying the torches of Guy Clark, John Prine, and Blaze Foley.

What may have looked like overnight success to an outsider was, in reality, the product of a decade-long climb up the industry’s ranks. A working musician since the age of 13, Walker spent years balancing his gigs as a sideman with a dizzyingly busy schedule of solo shows, regularly racking up more than 250 gigs annually. He sharpened his songwriting, too, developing a blend of autobiography and fiction that often revealed as much about the song’s creator as its characters. That prolific approach now leads Walker to 2020’s Glad You Made It, a sophomore record that both matches and magnifies the vital, vulnerable lure of his debut.

MIKE AND THE MOONPIES RELEASE ‘CHEAP SILVER AND SOLID COUNTRY GOLD’

Sixth Studio Album Recorded at London’s Abbey Road; Features London Symphony Orchestra and Guest Vocals from Shooter Jennings, Nikki Lane and More

“The Year’s Most Sophisticated Country Album….” Rolling Stone Country

Mike and the Moonpies released their sixth studio album, ‘Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold,’ today. Produced by Adam Odor, this project was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with help from the London Symphony Orchestra and is the Austin-based band’s most adventurous record to date — an album that diversifies the band's honky-tonk roots by adding lush strings, cinematic arrangements, and collaborative songwriting to the mix. Inspired in part by the classic "countrypolitan" music of the 1960s and early '70s, these songs find frontman Mike Harmeier channeling the smooth delivery of crooners like Glen Campbell and Frank Sinatra, backed by a band of road warriors who all played a major role in the songs' construction. The result is a modern record steeped in everything that made their previous work so compelling: sharp storytelling; honest, dynamic performances; and a willingness to step far outside the box turning vintage influences into a contemporary that's dark, reflective, and refined.

Although largely recorded in London, ‘Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold’ still owes its inception to Texas, where the bandmates (pedal steel player Zach Moulton, guitarist Catlin Rutherford, bassist Omar Oyoque, keyboardist John Carbone, drummer Kyle Ponder) spent a week co-writing and arranging the eight-song collection at renowned yellow DOG Studios in Wimberley, TX.

Mike and the Moonpies last studio album ‘Steak Night At The Prairie Rose’ was one of 2018’s best reviewed releases as evident by their presence on numerous “Best Of” lists including nods from Rolling Stone Country for “40 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2018” and “25 Best Country and Americana Songs of 2018” and Saving Country Music named them the #1 Best Live Performance of 2018.

BB Palmer

"Alabama's B.B. Palmer creates music steeped in American Country Music while keeping an eye on contemporary events. You can hear this on the latest
Palmer opus, Krishna Country, a record that bridges the distant between Ravi Shankar and Tom T. Hall with remarkable aplomb." - Pop Matters

"The 'Lee County's Finest' album is a one & done kind of listen. It's an intricate yet simple telling of struggle vs. triumph, good vs. evil, & lucid dreams vs. harsh political realities. In my opinion, these are the primary themes of the record and they are wondrously interwoven within 11 songs that flow together as one concept." - RICKY'S REVIEWS // Nashville TN

"On repeated listens, the songs unfurl as the lyrics sink into your consciousness, suggesting questions as much as revealing answers. The depths of these songs seem to plunge further away as you become more familiar with them, until you are staring into the abyss of pain and struggle that is the human condition, wrestling with the facts of reincarnation, resurrection and Armageddon. As I said, this is existential honky-tonk." - Tony Sexton, Whiskey Preachin - Brighton UK

Hailing from the heart of railroad country in Opelika, Alabama, B.B. Palmer reworks the southeastern country sound with their "existential honky-tonk" (Mobile Press Register) songs and mesmerizing live show.

B.B. Palmer has shared bills with greats such as: Alan Jackson, Dawes, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Earth Wind & Fire, Brent Cobb, Mike and The Moonpies, Old Crow Medicine Show, American Aquarium and Andrew Combs.

FORREST O'CONNOR
Nashville-born singer-songwriter and guitarist Forrest O’Connor earned national recognition as one of the lead vocalists and instrumentalists in the O’Connor Band, a group he co-founded with his wife, Kate Lee O’Connor, and his father, seven-time CMA Award-winning violinist Mark O’Connor. Forrest wrote several songs, including the title track, for the O’Connor Band’s debut album Coming Home, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums Chart and won a GRAMMY Award in 2017.

Both independently and as part of the O’Connor Band, Forrest has performed and/or recorded with Paul Simon, Zac Brown, Judah & The Lion, Kenny Loggins, Clint Black, Emmylou Harris, Suzy Bogguss, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, and many others. He has played several times at The Grand Ole Opry as well as at other notable venues and festivals around the country, including Fenway Park, the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards Ceremony, the Strathmore Center for the Arts, RockyGrass Festival, DelFest, and Grey Fox. He also appeared in the final episode of the fourth season of ABC’s hit series Nashville, performing behind Chris Carmack’s character, Will Lexington.

Prior to the O’Connor Band, Forrest toured nationally as a duo with Kate (sometimes along with his college buddy, singer-songwriter Jim Shirey) and frequently performed as a sideman at The Station Inn in Nashville. In 2014, he won the Tennessee State Mandolin Championship.

ISSAC EICHER
Tulsa native Isaac Eicher grew up in a musical household and started playing the mandolin at 9 years old.  He inherited a multifarious taste of music from his parents, who are both well-accomplished artists- violinist Shelby Eicher and vocalist Janet Rutland.  Eicher's parents played all styles of music including jazz, bluegrass and western swing, in their home as he was growing up.  In his teen years, Eicher evolved into an extraordinary musician and began to compete on a national level, winning first place prizes at the Walnut Valley Mandolin Championship in 2006 and Rockygrass in 2010.

After graduating high school in 2009, Eicher's musical journey took a very interesting turn.  He enrolled in the University of Oklahoma, and developed a new interest: language arts.  Eicher became enamored with the Spanish language and learned it very quickly.  To further his studies, he went abroad to Valencia, Spain, to immerse himself fully in the culture.  With mandolin in tow, Eicher’s musical style became greatly impacted by the pursuit of learning Spanish.   He began to incorporate world music styles like gypsy swing, Brazilian samba, and Cuban montunos to his already strong foundation in jazz and bluegrass music.

In 2018, Eicher released his debut solo album “Native Language,” featuring original music arranged for an acoustic quartet. Currently, Eicher resides in Nashville, Tennessee where he performs with a wide range of artists, including wife Marcela Pinilla, and groups such as Hot Club Time Machine, Forrest O’Connor, The Jazz Grass Association, Giovanni Rodriguez and Rebecca Frazier, to name a few. Producers and recording artists also call upon Eicher for his specific sound on the mandolin for their projects.

GARRISON STARR

Garrison Starr thought she was done playing music. A lifetime of trauma, from her upbringing in a fundamentalist Christian household to more than two decades navigating the music industry, left her spirit broken. With her days as a major-label artist behind her, the Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and producer was ready to pack it in.

"I could never get free from the feeling that what I had to say didn't matter to anybody. And that I was a failure," says Starr. "I was like, 'You know, I'm just gonna stop trying.' So I stopped trying and just started working on myself."

That an artist of Starr's caliber should feel this way seems unfathomable. She scored her first hit with 1997's acclaimed "Superhero," then went on to release 15 solo albums and tour with Melissa Etheridge, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Lilith Fair. Starr's songs appeared on countless TV shows like Grey's Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars. She even collaborated with close friend Margaret Cho on a comedy album and podcast.

Starr always prided herself on writing her own material — a fact driven in part, she admits, by her own insecurities. Looking to open a new chapter in her life, she decided it was time to work behind the scenes. She threw herself into songwriting collaborations and a new role penning songs for other artists.

Or so she thought. Having learned to exercise her creative muscles once more, she discovered a voice that was distinct, powerful: Garrison Starr's. Girl I Used to Be is the fruit of those labors, a nine-track album of self discovery due to be shared with the world by Soundly Music on March 5, 2021. Starr's first new music since her 2017 EP What if There is No Destination and first full-length in nearly a decade, it was produced by longtime friend Neilson Hubbard, engineered by Danny Aldredge, and features cowrites with talented young songwriters like Carly Paige, Katie Pruitt, and Dominique Arciero.

MATTHEW MAYFIELD

From haunting acoustic ballads to gritty rock and roll songs filled with swagger and attitude, Matthew Mayfield has spent the past decade releasing music that has changed the hearts and lives of his listeners. His latest LP, Gun Shy, is a collection of songs as varied as the emotions each of us feels. If his previous release, RECOIL, was the fruit of an intense effort by Mayfield to depict the good, the bad, and the ugly in the world he inhabited, Gun Shy is a look into all worlds – those full of darkness and hope.

Gun Shy is now available on all digital platforms worldwide. Physical copies are available on matthewmayfield.com.

Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter and former frontman of The Ugly Americans and The Scabs, Bob Schneider has become one of the most celebrated musicians in the live music capital. Drawing from a range of diverse musicals styles, Schneider’s talent has defied genres.

Schneider will be releasing a new record ‘In A Roomful Of Blood with A Sleeping Tiger’ in August 2021 with supporting tour dates throughout the US.

Combining elements of funk, country, rock, and folk with the more traditional singer/songwriter aesthetic, Schneider draws inspiration from the ’70s with a modern twist, reminiscent of contemporaries such as Beck. His catalogue is both uplifting and sober, unafraid to tackle powerful subjects like alienation, drug addiction, and lost romance in addition to celebrating life’s joys.

Schneider has won more than 59 Austin Music Awards including Best Album, Best Songwriter, Best Musician, and Best Male Vocals making him the most decorated artist in Austin music history.

However, Schneider’s fan base reaches far beyond the city limits of Austin. He started gaining national recognition when he released 2001’s Lonelyland, his major-label debut for Universal Records, followed by 2004’s I’m Good Now. Since leaving Universal, Schneider has gone on to release more award-winning albums under Vanguard and began releasing “side projects” on his label, Shockorama Records.

He has released more than a dozen albums, written over 1,000 songs, is a published author, and is also an avid painter and collage artist – and doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.
