They say that timing is everything, and roots rock singer-songwriter Andrew James ought to know. A Texas native who got his start as a guitar-slinging sideman, James broke out as a solo artist in 2016, when his Shoreline EP arrived to unexpected streaming success. Appearing at the dawn of a boom in curated playlists, it stood precariously on the edge of an emotional canyon, with soft-spoken confessionals capturing a sense of melancholy beauty to rack up more than 12 million plays on Spotify and counting. But now, the time has come to move forward. With What Am I Running From? – James’ long-awaited full-length album debut – the thought provoking Nashville tunesmith turns to face his inner turmoil, and move toward a new musical chapter. Over the course of 10 tracks co-produced by Rocko Wheeler and engineered by Andrija Tokic at East Nashville’s Bomb Shelter studio, James blends roots-rocking drive with folk curiosity and indie-pop whimsy, as the grayscale themes of self reflection find a technicolor sonic contrast.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zeyyi9q15n0&feature=youtu.bePAUL WHITACREPaul is a singer-songwriter based in Atlanta, Ga. “With his new album ‘The Reservoir’, Kenny Roby seeks some solace between the darkness and the light, gleans lessons learned and transmits them through a set of songs that are taut, tender and flush with both resilience and resolve.”– AMERICAN SONGWRITER (4.5 of 5 Stars)
Alan Lee Edwards has been a songwriter for over 30 years, and became the main singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the band Lou Ford. Punks, alt-country fans, and glam rockers alike agreed there was an honesty there, an authenticity not built on outward style but inner substance. The songs spoke mostly of the ebb and flow of personal relationships, and of the existence most of us south of "middle-class" immediately recognized as our own. They had critical respect, too, and from some of the best music magazines in the world -- Uncut and Mojo both talked the band up breathlessly, and they shared space on British "best of" compilation CDs with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Richard Thompson and Paul Simon.

Brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman and their band The Silent Comedy know trouble. Facing that trouble head on permeates their work. Rough-hewn, expansive American rock & roll with dirt under its nails and whiskey on its breath, the music of The Silent Comedy channels the iron spine of the blues, Honky-Tonk sweat, and punk swagger into a euphoric declaration that when trouble rears its worrisome head it’s time to crack knuckles, lock arms, and lift our voices high.
The brothers spent their formative years traveling the world with missionary parents before settling in California. In search of catharsis, the teens found solace in songwriting and stage lights. The young band proved capable of raucous shows and word spread. Years of touring followed, performing with Dave Matthews Band, Queens of the Stone Age, Mumford and Sons, Arctic Monkeys, and Vampire Weekend, and festival plays at Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Under The Big Sky, Summer Meltdown and more.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITF3owJvwQU

The Piedmont Boys started out in Greenville, SC over a decade ago by frontman Greg Payne. They’ve played thousands of shows, logged thousands of miles, released four albums, toured half the continental U.S., shared stages with everyone from Eric Church to Charlie Robison..hell, they’ve even played rodeos from Oregon to Texas. But wherever they go, the refrain of the fans who come up to them remains the same: “I never liked country music until I heard y’all.”
What these folks must be talking about is the watered-down pop-country stuff you hear on the radio nowadays, because if you don’t like REAL country…Merle, Willie, Waylon, Johnny…you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.
If you don’t like against-the-grain, outlaw brand, whiskey-soaked, blue-collar honky-tonk music, the kind where the volume and the energy are dead ringers for rock & roll but the sound is gritty hard-country, you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.
If you don’t like a live show that’s pedal-to-the-floorboard, rock the place down to the dirt and drain every drop of sweat from every human being in the house, you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.
If you don’t like your Jerry Reed mixed with a little Metallica if you don’t like a band that loves playing live so much that they’ve had one weekend off in seven years, if you don’t like country mixed with bluegrass mixed with southern rock mixed with a little…make that a lot…of Jack Daniels, you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.
If any of that sounds like one hell of a good time, though, y’all come on in. The door’s always open.

“The best Cajun band in the World!” —Garrison Keillor, Prairie Home Companion
“BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet—they play music that’s honest to the bone!” —Allen Toussaint
BeauSoleil is the biggest brand in Cajun music, 2-time Grammy winners and 11-time Grammy nominees.
BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet for the past 37 years. Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members, and created and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz, blues rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country and bluegrass, captivating listeners from the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, to Carnegie Hall, then all the way across the pond to the Meltdown Festival in England.
For their first studio release in four years, and the 25th in their 37-year career, BeauSoleil teamed up with Nashville-based roots music label Compass Records. The band named the new album From Bamako to Carencro, a title that alludes to the cultural and migratory connection between Bamako, in Mali, West Africa, and Louisiana (symbolized in name by the Lafayette, LA. suburb of Carencro), a connection that draws a sonic bloodline back to BeauSoleil’s roots. On the album’s 11 tracks, the band performs with a resounding authenticity all the while bringing a refreshed playfulness to the genre—the fiddle, flat-picked guitar and accordion carry driving melodies over the two-step and waltz dance beats characteristic of their Cajun and Zydeco music, but not without the country, jazz and blues leanings that informed the genre in the 1920s. They channel the godfathers of other music as well by including a Cajun/La La-style reimagining of James Brown’s classic 1962 Live at the Apollo version of “I’ll Go Crazy” and a swing version of John Coltrane’s tune-de-force “Bessie’s Blues.” Guitarist David Doucet even tucks an occasional Lester Flatt-style bluegrass G-run into his highly melodic guitar solos.
Since becoming the first Cajun band to win a GRAMMY with L’amour Ou La Folie (Traditional Folk Album – 1998) and then a second Grammy in 2010, Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, BeauSoleil has garnered many accolades, including twelve GRAMMY nominations, the latest being their 2009 release Alligator Purse. They are regular guests on Garrison Keillor’s National Public Radio show A Prairie Home Companion, where Keillor has dubbed them as “the best Cajun band in the world,” and their music is so integral to the Cajun culture that they have been featured on the New Orleans–based hit HBO program Treme. (Look for an on-camera performance from the band this year during the final season of the show). Critics unanimously agree that it is “bon temps, every time they play,” (New York Times).

“Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is.” – Carl Jung
There are singer-songwriters, and there are troubadours. Singer-songwriters are sensitive, polished souls, sharing their journal entries with the world… whereas troubadours do their best just to stay out of jail. In the wake of Ben de la Cour’s astonishing new record, Shadow Land, you can add his name to the top of the list of younger troubadours to whom this ever-so-occasionally poisoned chalice is being passed.
Shadow Land shimmers. It’s both terrifying and soothing – suffused with honesty, craft and a rare soul-baring fearlessness but with enough surprises to keep the listener guessing. It gets down and dirty with electric guitar but also features Ben’s diffident fingerpicking in quieter moments. Ultimately, it is a darkly beautiful meditation on what it means to be human. Ben’s voice renders raw emotion with authority as he recounts tales of suspicious characters, lost love, murder, bank robbers, suicide and mental illness against a backdrop of a dark and haunted America. On the brilliant “From Now On” he sings “it’s hard to hold a candle / in a wind so wild and strong.” That one line sums up the troubadour’s life about as well as anything ever said about it before.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrSiTT-cG7Y&feature=emb_logoTHE WEEPING WILLOWS
Every song penned by The Weeping Willows is a love song. They’d deny that, of course. These tracks, they’d claim, are works of imagination – tales of cruelty, tragedy, murder and betrayal, all populated by gamblers, sinners, infidels and travelling salesmen (read: wandering musicians). Ask Andy or Laura to define their work and they’d probably hit you with phrases like “cautionary tales”, “murder ballads” or simply “folk songs”, but in truth these are love songs – each and every one of them.
How are they love songs, you ask? Because The Weeping Willows are lovers – they are devoted to each other and to the life of the artist in seemingly equal measure. Have you seen them perform together? Have you seen the knowing glances they exchange as they harmonise their eerie, at times surreal lyrics over Andy’s patient, timeless ¾ strum? Think back to those performances, those moments of chemistry in its purist form, then try to convince yourself that The Weeping Willows were not singing a love song. Every note plucked or sung by Andy and Laura is a work of love. Every dark hour spent huddled together refining their sound in the dimly-lit backroom of their home on the Southern outskirts of Melbourne is a labour of love.

BUFFALO ROSE NEWS!-Buffalo Rose released a new album, co-written and recorded with Tom Paxton - 'Rabbit’, on 2/22/22. - The second single off the EP, "I Give You The Morning", written by the incomparable Tom Paxton and featuring his vocals; The song hit #1 on the FolkRadio.org charts, the album at #6, and the band ranked #7, tied with Joan Baez. https://spoti.fi/3BccH1K- The 18th Annual International Music Awards, (IAMA), have just recently announced Buffalo Rose as First Prize winners in the Best Group/Duo category. This news was followed by the IAMA announcing Buffalo Rose as the Overall Grand Prize winner for 2022. https://inacoustic.com/winners/- Buffalo Rose has been selected as 2022 Official Showcase Artists at both SXSW in March and Folk Alliance International (FAI) in May. FAI will feature Buffalo Rose as 2022 Official Showcase Artists joining the lineup alongside Steve Poltz, Diana Jones, Livingston Taylor, Big Little Lions, Peter Mulvey, and more, in May 2022.
Listening to Buffalo Rose is like driving on the open road with the windows down, letting the breezes of various musical styles wash over you. Buffalo Rose commandeers the shimmering and electrifying riffs of the mandolin, (Bryce Rabideau), the cascading guitar arpeggios of folk and bluegrass, (Shane McLaughlin), the ringing purity of the dobro, (Malcolm Inglis), and the steady percussive thrum of upright bass, (Jason Rafalak), providing an effervescent blanket of sound under and around which the ethereal harmonies of Lucy Clabby, Margot Jezerc, and McLaughlin float. There’s a singular beauty in every Buffalo Rose song, whether the group is covering Madonna’s “Borderline” or delivering their stirring original material.
The members of the band met four years ago in the Pittsburgh area. “All of us were active in the Pittsburgh music scene,” says McLaughlin. Each of them was playing different kinds of music, from folk to punk. They formed in 2016 when former member Mariko Reid got together with Clabby, Inglis and McLaughlin to record McLaughlin’s tune “Momma Have Mercy.” Before long the three had met up with Rabideau and Rafalak, and the band’s first EP, Red Wagon, debuted in November 2016.
