Georgia native, Matthew Kahler, has been writing songs since childhood. Drumming on anything that made sound and singing aloud was one way to get noticed in a family with nine children.

In the early 90's Matthew made his way to Atlanta and became a part of the small group of singer-songwriters, who helped form the now legendary community of indie music, put together by Eddie Owen of Eddies Attic fame. Matthew, Shawn Mullins, the Indigo Girls, Jennifer Nettles, Clay Cook, John Mayer, Andy Offutt Irwin and more started what we now think of as Georgia indie music at it finest.

Matthew is so respected by his peers that he receives accolades from John Mayer saying that "Matthew has written some of my favorite lines." Kristian Bush of Sugarland calls Matthew "the unleashed one", and Zac Brown recalls that  "Matthew Kahler is one of the reasons I started songwriting".  Kahler is and has been a performer's performer, a writers writer.

Matthew has the ability to keep an audience on the edge with his sense of humor and genuine talent.  Live, off the cuff, out of control and within 3 feet of a mic stand is where he's at his best!

By Fred Thomas

Nothing about Call Me Spinster is ordinary. The closer you look at this trio of sisters fromChattanooga, Tennessee, the harder it is to locate something about their sound, background, or energy that delivers predictable results.

Call Me Spinster blurs old-timey traditions with modernized pop fun without ever landing in expected territory. Like many who forge their own path, the group started with seemingly inauspicious beginnings. While sisters Amelia, Rachel and Rosalie were living and working as teachers in various international locales, they’d get together occasionally to play cover tunes at family weddings or in low-key performance settings. By 2016, all three had centralized in Chattanooga and were gigging regularly, still playing cover songs but discovering that their individual musical journeys were gelling with their inherent familial harmony for something unique.

When the band played the Timber Roots festival in Lookout Mountain, Georgia in late summer of 2019, they met Strolling Bones label head George Fontaine, who had already heard positive buzzings about the band from friends in Chattanooga with good ears. Through George, Call Me Spinster would eventually be introduced to producer Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Toro y Moi,) who would work with them to create their first EP of original music. The band decamped to Athens, Georgia to work with Vandenberg at the vaunted studios of Chase Park Transductions. The studio turned into a creative playground, and long days spun on into 3AM nights of experimenting with overdubs and last-minute mixing choices that totally reshaped the songs. A major transformation came with the decision to branch out from the merry-go-round instrumentation of the band’s live set, bringing in session players to fill out arrangements that could be sometimes raw or skeletal in the club. After a week of work, time was up and the band returned home with the recordings still in progress, making plans to comeback soon and finish up in person.COVID-19 complicated those plans significantly, and the music took yet another unexpected turn with Call Me Spinster completing unfinished vocal tracking, overdubs and in some cases full songs on their own, with help in the form of video chat recording tutorials from their producer.

J2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary, award-winning musicians - John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals - delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band's undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship, incomparable songwriting, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the "high lonesome sound" of American roots music at its finest.

Jorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. After working as a freelance musician in Southern California, Jorgenson met Hillman and soon formed the Desert Rose Band. In 1990, Jorgenson went on to found the Hellecasters and toured with Elton John's band for six years. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson's guitar work. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008, Jorgenson won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs.

Herb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass bandThe Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician, he has worked with such music legends as Chris Hillman, Earl Scruggs, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris,Tony Rice, Dan Fogelberg, Stephen Stills, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Jackson Browne and John Denver.

Mark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He's toured and recorded with the Dixie Chicks,Alan Jackson,TravisTritt, DwightYoakam,Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton, as well as producing many artists in jazz, country, bluegrass and gospel genres.

Patrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar, mandolin and banjo, Sauber has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in "The Mighty Wind."

J2B2's debut album, From The Crow's Nest, was recorded in Sheryl Crow's home barn studio in Nashville,Tennessee. The album was recently released as part of a John Jorgenson limited edition, 3-CD box set called DIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records), which has received vast critical acclaim. DIVERTUOSO includes three new distinct albums by Jorgenson: J2B2 - From The Crow's Nest; John Jorgenson Quintet - Returning (gypsy jazz); and John Jorgenson - Gifts From The Flood (instrumental electric guitar).

In Lowrey’s universe, music and a sense of community are inseparable. He recalls his grandparents taking him to jam sessions every Friday night at the “Chicken House” on Gid Tanner’s farm. It was just that—a converted chicken house—in which local musicians gathered for joy, relief and companionship.
“That was the beginning of music,” he says. “Before you had records being sold and the commercialization of music, it was primarily a get-together. That was the reason for it. It always belonged in a community. I feel we’ve lost sight of that. Now it’s about record sales and touring and concerts and things of that nature. I don’t get quite as much fulfillment from that as I do sitting around on the front porch playing with a bunch of guys.”

In the sixth grade, Lowrey began taking classical violin lessons and soon moved on to playing fiddle music, taking in and assimilating all the instrumental techniques and flourishes he saw on display at the Chicken House.

His next move was to join Sonia Leigh’s band as a fiddler. “All the while I was writing my own stuff,” he recalls, “coming up with my own voice and kind of figuring out what I had to say. About two years after I went with Sonia, I started playing out on my own and doing my own thing a lot more. I eventually decided to make music my full time profession. I was working construction at the time as a framer. So I quit my job and played just as much as I possibly could. I think one year—between my gigs and hers—we did over 285 shows. It was the only way we could make any money. You just kind of went up there and busted your ass, maybe for $25 bucks, especially in Athens. In some joints you got paid your bar tab.”

After touring with Leigh for years, Lowrey found himself playing on the same bill with Zac Brown at the Dixie Tavern in Marietta, Georgia. “Zac’s star was rising and he ended up forming a record label,” Lowrey says. “Sonia and I both signed to it on the same day. About then, Sonia and I went our separate ways. With my obligations as a recording artist, I couldn’t play with her fulltime. I hit the road with Zac and toured with him for several years. And I wrote a bunch of good songs with him. When the label folded, I went completely independent and put out My Crazy Head in 2015. Roots and Branches is my second independent release.”

It was while touring with Brown that Lowrey realized it was time to choose what he wanted to achieve with his music. He and Brown were sitting on the bus before a show “either in Greenville, South Carolina or Greensboro, North Carolina” when Brown asked the crucial question. “Zac said, ‘Do you want to be me—to follow this path that I’m on [to stardom]—or do you want to be Darrell Scott?’ Darrell Scott’s my heroin that he found something to say and a voice to say it with and the determination to control what he will and won’t do. And I chose then and still choose to this day ‘to be’ Darrell Scott.”

“When I first heard Joe nine years ago, I immediately thought of Chet,” says Jazziz magazine critic James Rozzi, “but lately his voice has taken on its own style with a deeper resonance. His trumpet has always alternated lyricism with an aggressive, angular approach. He has the ability to cover the gamut of emotions.”
Joe is from just north of Manhattan, New York. Coming from a family full of musicians, Joe’s introduction to music came early on through his father, a gifted singer and pianist. His grandfather was a trumpeter of merit, playing professionally his whole life throughout New York. On his mother’s side of the family was the piano virtuoso Carmen Cavallero.

“Music has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember,” says the unassuming Joe Gransden. “I can remember practicing with my father, and eventually him taking me along to sit in at jam sessions. Early on I developed a respect for individuals like my father whose lives revolved around music. While still in high school, I knew that music was the life I would choose.”

A widening schedule has found Joe performing the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month at Café 290 in Atlanta w/his 16 Piece Big Band , The Jazz Corner in Hilton Head, South Carolina, The Ritz-Carlton at Reynolds Plantation W/Michael Fienstein, The Museum of Art and Design in midtown Manhattan, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, Ga and Tehema Golf Club in Carmel, California (where Joe regularly plays events for Clint Eastwood). Joe also just released his brand new cd “Close To My Heart” produced by Saxophone great Kenny G. The cd is a collection of smooth jazz covers and originals written by Joe and Kenny. Joe has been performing w/Kenny G and his band around the country for the past year or so. His brand new project entitled “Songs of Sinatra & Friends” features Joe singing and playing w/his 16 piece Big Band & String Orchestra!

Folk Legends may seem to be a pretentious name, but it may be the only name appropriate for the collective talents of George Grove, Rick Dougherty and Jerry Siggins. These three men have been involved with music from the great Folk Era since the actual days of the great Folk Era.
<P>
Along the way, all three gentlemen became close friends with and performed on the same stages with the best known names of the folk and the folk-rock eras: Peter Paul & Mary, Tom Paxton, Judy Collins, Barry MacGuire, The New Christy Minstrels, The Brothers Four, The Chad Mitchell Trio, The Mamas & The Papas, The Association, John Sebastian, Josh White Jr, The Limeliters, Glenn Yarbrough, The Kingston Trio, Pete Seeger... Yes, this is a list of musical icons, but it is also a list of people with whom they've performed, traveled, written songs and shared meals. These are the friends and memories Folk Legends brings to life with the memorable and exciting music of the Great American Folksong Book™.

What began as Celtic Thunder's Neil Byrne and Ryan Kelly performing a series of shows together called 'Acoustic By Candlelight' back in 2012 has turned into what is now known as Byrne and Kelly.

Driven by dynamic vocal harmonies, the duo seamlessly combines genres like traditional Irish and Americana to create a fresh, Celtic folk sound that has garnered comparisons to iconic folk-rock duos like Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers.

Raised in Tupelo, Mississippi, among the same spirits (and some of the actual people) who nurtured the young Elvis generations before, Paul Thorn has rambled down back roads, battled four-time world champion boxer Roberto Duran on national television, signed with and been dropped by a major label, performed on stages with Bonnie Raitt, Mark Knopfler, Sting, and John Prine among many others, and made some of the most emotionally restless yet relatable music of our time.
<P>
With 20 years of writing, touring, and entertaining under his belt, he shows no sign of slowing down with his new record, Don't Let the Devil Ride, breaking genre barriers and topping charts, putting a new twist on his already-entertaining live show.

Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment, taking the rote, menial, mundane, and allowing it to be surreal, ever poignant, and candidly honest, lilting, blooming, and resonating.

The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world, what is at stake here, and our place in it. And ultimately, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters, that we don't always get it right, but that's the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things, why we forever chase it, and why it is held sacred.

Darrell Scott comes from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of 4, alongside a brother who played Jerry Reed style as well. From there, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University, along with playing his way through life. This would never change.
<P>
After recently touring with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (2 years with each), and producing albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark and being named "songwriter of the year" for both ASCAP and NSAI, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property and playing music.
<P>
He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories, and is as busy as always writing, producing, performing, and just plain fully immersing himself in life.

"The simple fact is that James McMurtry may be the truest, fiercest songwriter of his generation..."

Stephen King (Entertainment Weekly)

New Album from James McMurtry Due Out 2020!

James McMurtry has been working with legendary Los Angeles-based producer Ross Hogarth at Santa Monica's GrooveMasters for his forthcoming album. Liner notes enthusiasts know multiple-Grammy-winning producer/engineer/mixer Hogarth from his work with Gov't Mule, Roger Waters, The Black Crowes, Shawn Colvin, John Mellencamp, R.E.M.and Jewel, among many others. Hogarth's wide and varied experience and taste opened up all creative doors and usual and unusual possibilities for all their classics. And no need to explain the incredible GrooveMasters Studio.

Hogarth has never allowed himself to be pigeonholed or trapped in any one musical genre as his studio work runs the gamut from the heavy metal icons Mötley Crüe to the Grammy-winning Americana favorite Keb' Mo' to recent releases by Van Halen, Ziggy Marley and the Sick Puppies. Exclusive and particular in its clientele, the semi-private Santa Monica recording studio where McMurtry will be recording has recently opened its doors to Laurel Canyon legends such as David Crosby, Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon, David Bromberg and more. The spiritual vibe and feel of this studio, along with the cast of characters, will most definitely bring out the best in the upcoming McMurtry record.

Other notable players on the album (in addition to his stellar band) include David Grissom (John Mellencamp) and Harmoni Kelley (Kenny Chesney). McMurtry will unleash this latest collection of poignant and timely songs on New West Records this fall! "I first became aware of James McMurtry's formidable songwriting prowess while working at Bug Music Publishing in the '90s," says New West President John Allen. "He's a true talent. All of us at New West are excited at the prospect of championing the next phase of James' already successful and respected career." McMurtry joins New West's singular roster of top-tier roots music all-stars including Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, John Hiatt, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Buddy Miller, Nikki Lane and dozens more.
