Advanced tickets: $20 ($25 day of show)TAYLOR ALEXANDER

Alexander's early life was filled with—and deeply inspired by—music. His father, a classically trained opera singer and church music minister, encouraged his early interest in music by giving him a guitar at age 7. By age 14, Alexander formed his first band, largely influenced by punk music. Though he's still a punk fan to this day, everything changed when he heard Bob Dylan for the first time; then diving into the discographies of classic country songwriters like Hank Williams and Merle Haggard. At 17, he started alt-country band Young America and spent the next few years playing through the southeast. After embarking on a solo career and a brief stint on NBC's The Voice he released his debut full length album Good Old Fashioned Pain in April of 2019 to wide acclaim, with songs that "would fit right in on a playlist of today's biggest Americana acts: Jason Isbell, Margo Price, American Aquarium." - The Boot

It was listed as a "most essential album of 2019" by Saving Country Music who said "Good Old Fashioned Pain is the kind of record you hope and pray crosses your path as a country music fan."

"The Piedmont Boys’ brand of outlaw country is loud and proud ... It’s the anti-thesis to country radio, something The Piedmont Boys I’m sure will wear with a badge of pride."  - Country Perspective

The Piedmont Boys started out in Greenville, SC over a decade ago by frontman Greg Payne. They’ve played thousands of shows, logged thousands of miles, released four albums, toured half the continental U.S., shared stages with everyone from Eric Church to Charlie Robison..hell, they’ve even played rodeos from Oregon to Texas. But wherever they go, the refrain of the fans who come up to them remains the same: “I never liked country music until I heard y’all.”

What these folks must be talking about is the watered-down pop-country stuff you hear on the radio nowadays, because if you don’t like REAL country…Merle, Willie, Waylon, Johnny…you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.

If you don’t like against-the-grain, outlaw brand, whiskey-soaked, blue-collar honky-tonk music, the kind where the volume and the energy are dead ringers for rock & roll but the sound is gritty hard-country, you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.

If you don’t like a live show that’s pedal-to-the-floorboard, rock the place down to the dirt and drain every drop of sweat from every human being in the house, you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.

If you don’t like your Jerry Reed mixed with a little Metallica if you don’t like a band that loves playing live so much that they’ve had one weekend off in seven years, if you don’t like country mixed with bluegrass mixed with southern rock mixed with a little…make that a lot…of Jack Daniels, you won’t like The Piedmont Boys.

If any of that sounds like one hell of a good time, though, y’all come on in. The door’s always open.

Advanced tickets: $25 (Day of show: $28)The Mad Hatters...a Tribute to Tom Petty AND The Heartbreakers

Brewed in Florida, aged to perfection in LA, the genius of Tom Petty was at it's very best with the Heartbreakers. One just doesn't find a lead guitarist like Mike Campbell in a friend's back room or a keyboardist like Benmont Tench, the son of a Florida judge who had to fight to be a musician. But Tom Petty did and the Heartbreakers were every bit a 5 piece gang.

The Mad Hatters are seasoned Atlanta pro's who've made it a mission to replicate the Heartbreakers "NEW" Rock and Roll sound and vibe.. Band members include Vegas Dave Turner...Vocals/Guitar, Fred McNeal... Guitar/Vocals, Wayne Vokovich... Bass/Vocals, Todd Johnston...Drums/Vocals and Asher McKinney...Keys/Vocals.

Come, wear your best hat and have a cup of tea with the Mad Hatters!VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz4XNUiaMY0

“The best Cajun band in the World!”  —Garrison Keillor, Prairie Home Companion

“BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet—they play music that’s honest to the bone!” —Allen Toussaint

BeauSoleil is the biggest brand in Cajun music, 2-time Grammy winners and 11-time Grammy nominees.

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet for the past 37 years.  Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members, and created and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet.  BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz, blues rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country and bluegrass, captivating listeners from the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, to Carnegie Hall, then all the way across the pond to the Meltdown Festival in England.

For their first studio release in four years, and the 25th in their 37-year career, BeauSoleil teamed up with Nashville-based roots music label Compass Records. The band named the new album From Bamako to Carencro, a title that alludes to the cultural and migratory connection between Bamako, in Mali, West Africa, and Louisiana (symbolized in name by the Lafayette, LA. suburb of Carencro), a connection that draws a sonic bloodline back to BeauSoleil’s roots. On the album’s 11 tracks, the band performs with a resounding authenticity all the while bringing a refreshed playfulness to the genre—the fiddle, flat-picked guitar and accordion carry driving melodies over the two-step and waltz dance beats characteristic of their Cajun and Zydeco music, but not without the country, jazz and blues leanings that informed the genre in the 1920s. They channel the godfathers of other music as well by including a Cajun/La La-style reimagining of James Brown’s classic 1962 Live at the Apollo version of “I’ll Go Crazy” and a swing version of John Coltrane’s tune-de-force “Bessie’s Blues.” Guitarist David Doucet even tucks an occasional Lester Flatt-style bluegrass G-run into his highly melodic guitar solos.

Since becoming the first Cajun band to win a GRAMMY with L’amour Ou La Folie (Traditional Folk Album – 1998) and then a second Grammy in 2010, Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, BeauSoleil has garnered many accolades, including twelve GRAMMY nominations, the latest being their 2009 release Alligator Purse. They are regular guests on Garrison Keillor’s National Public Radio show A Prairie Home Companion, where Keillor has dubbed them as “the best Cajun band in the world,” and their music is so integral to the Cajun culture that they have been featured on the New Orleans–based hit HBO program Treme. (Look for an on-camera performance from the band this year during the final season of the show). Critics unanimously agree that it is “bon temps, every time they play,” (New York Times).

BEN DE LA COUR

“Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is.” – Carl Jung

There are singer-songwriters, and there are troubadours. Singer-songwriters are sensitive, polished souls, sharing their journal entries with the world… whereas troubadours do their best just to stay out of jail. In the wake of Ben de la Cour’s astonishing new record, Shadow Land, you can add his name to the top of the list of younger troubadours to whom this ever-so-occasionally poisoned chalice is being passed.

Shadow Land shimmers. It’s both terrifying and soothing – suffused with honesty, craft and a rare soul-baring fearlessness but with enough surprises to keep the listener guessing. It gets down and dirty with electric guitar but also features Ben’s diffident fingerpicking in quieter moments. Ultimately, it is a darkly beautiful meditation on what it means to be human. Ben’s voice renders raw emotion with authority as he recounts tales of suspicious characters, lost love, murder, bank robbers, suicide and mental illness against a backdrop of a dark and haunted America. On the brilliant “From Now On” he sings “it’s hard to hold a candle / in a wind so wild and strong.” That one line sums up the troubadour’s life about as well as anything ever said about it before.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrSiTT-cG7Y&feature=emb_logoTHE WEEPING WILLOWS

Every song penned by The Weeping Willows is a love song. They’d deny that, of course. These tracks, they’d claim, are works of imagination – tales of cruelty, tragedy, murder and betrayal, all populated by gamblers, sinners, infidels and travelling salesmen (read: wandering musicians). Ask Andy or Laura to define their work and they’d probably hit you with phrases like “cautionary tales”, “murder ballads” or simply “folk songs”, but in truth these are love songs – each and every one of them.

How are they love songs, you ask? Because The Weeping Willows are lovers – they are devoted to each other and to the life of the artist in seemingly equal measure. Have you seen them perform together? Have you seen the knowing glances they exchange as they harmonise their eerie, at times surreal lyrics over Andy’s patient, timeless ¾ strum? Think back to those performances, those moments of chemistry in its purist form, then try to convince yourself that The Weeping Willows were not singing a love song. Every note plucked or sung by Andy and Laura is a work of love. Every dark hour spent huddled together refining their sound in the dimly-lit backroom of their home on the Southern outskirts of Melbourne is a labour of love.

BUFFALO ROSE NEWS!-Buffalo Rose released a new album, co-written and recorded with Tom Paxton - 'Rabbit’, on 2/22/22. - The second single off the EP, "I Give You The Morning", written by the incomparable Tom Paxton and featuring his vocals; The song hit #1 on the FolkRadio.org charts, the album at #6, and the band ranked #7, tied with Joan Baez. https://spoti.fi/3BccH1K- The 18th Annual International Music Awards, (IAMA), have just recently announced Buffalo Rose as First Prize winners in the Best Group/Duo category. This news was followed by the IAMA announcing Buffalo Rose as the Overall Grand Prize winner for 2022https://inacoustic.com/winners/- Buffalo Rose has been selected as 2022 Official Showcase Artists at both SXSW in March and Folk Alliance International (FAI) in May. FAI will feature Buffalo Rose as 2022 Official Showcase Artists joining the lineup alongside Steve Poltz, Diana Jones, Livingston Taylor, Big Little Lions, Peter Mulvey, and more, in May 2022.

Listening to Buffalo Rose is like driving on the open road with the windows down, letting the breezes of various musical styles wash over you. Buffalo Rose commandeers the shimmering and electrifying riffs of the mandolin, (Bryce Rabideau), the cascading guitar arpeggios of folk and bluegrass, (Shane McLaughlin), the ringing purity of the dobro, (Malcolm Inglis), and the steady percussive thrum of upright bass, (Jason Rafalak), providing an effervescent blanket of sound under and around which the ethereal harmonies of Lucy Clabby, Margot Jezerc, and McLaughlin float. There’s a singular beauty in every Buffalo Rose song, whether the group is covering Madonna’s “Borderline” or delivering their stirring original material.

The members of the band met four years ago in the Pittsburgh area. “All of us were active in the Pittsburgh music scene,” says McLaughlin. Each of them was playing different kinds of music, from folk to punk. They formed in 2016 when former member Mariko Reid got together with Clabby, Inglis and McLaughlin to record McLaughlin’s tune “Momma Have Mercy.” Before long the three had met up with Rabideau and Rafalak, and the band’s first EP, Red Wagon, debuted in November 2016.

Guitarist and singer Grant Green Jr. has kept it funky with his Masters of Groove music project (with Bernard Purdie and Rueben Wilson) and his own jazz and original funk band.  His newest project, a tribute album to Burt Bacharach, was born from hearing his late father’s (jazz great Grant Green) homage to him in his Blue Note Records days.

“He is one of my favorite American composers,” Grant says. “His sense of melody in a song like ‘Alfie’ is beautiful and timeless.”

Grant says his love for all types of music made him the multidimensional musician that he is today. The self-proclaimed Led Zeppelin and Johnny Cash fan recalls how one-time pop songs such as “Days of Wine and Roses,” “Misty,” and “Stella by Starlight” later became jazz standards.

“Basically that’s what I’m doing with the Burt Bacharach stuff, he says. “It’s great material that you want to put your own spin on.”

While Bacharach is an inspiration, he has many others. Grant Jr. spent part of his childhood in Detroit where Motown legends would jam at his house, and New York City, where he had a bird’s eye view of the jazz scene.

His Detroit neighbors included Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight along with members of the Four Tops and the Temptations. Miles Davis was known to join impromptu jam sessions in their home.

The musicianship of Grant’s father, however, has had the greatest sway over him. “He highly influenced me,” Grant says. “He’s why I play the guitar.”

The elder Grant, who inspired the likes of Carlos Santana and George Benson, was not interested in his son following in his footsteps. He preferred that young Grant become a doctor or a lawyer. But from adolescence the son had studied his father playing the guitar, and at age 17 Grant gained his musical respect.

“Richman is one of America’s most unique and dynamic songwriters…” – Nashville Scene “Richman didn’t need much else besides a beat to work his magic.” – New York Daily News

“Buy tickets early. Buy tickets often. This is just good general life advice, but even more so when you’re talking about Jonathan Richman. Don’t get denied at the door, don’t leave things up to chance: You will regret it.” – Nashville Scene

“Rhymes worthy of Ogden Nash.” – The New York Times

“Richman has spent decades removing barriers between himself and his audience, cultivating an intimacy that is almost extinct in modern music.”- Nashville Scene

“The music we’re doing now works well in quiet places like theaters and performing art centers. We still don’t use a program or a set list so we don’t know what we’ll do until we do it. Please do not expect old songs. Many singers my age do a retrospective; this show is not like that. It’s mostly stuff made up in the last 3 and 4 years. Some of the songs presented might be in different languages; this is not to be esoteric or clever, it’s because the different languages help me express different feelings sometimes. One last thing, my idea of a good show has nothing to do with applause. It’s about if all the songs I sang that night were ones that I felt.” – Jonathan

After releasing four Top Ten Billboard albums, North Carolina based Nu-Blu has quickly established themselves as one of the top Acoustic acts in the music industry, delivering a set of songs that range from the melancholy to the exuberant, and at every step they prove they’ve got a knack for finding their way into the deeper parts of you.

Over the years, they’ve turned many heads, garnering major headlines with their George Jones inspired tribute single "Jesus and Jones" featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer 'Soul Man' Sam Moore (of the iconic duo Sam and Dave). The award-winning band has also made appearances on Fox News in the past, while also having their music featured on CBS "Sunday Morning."  Recently they have moved into the role of helping bring Bluegrass to the masses, serving as the permanent host of the nationally-syndicated TV show "Bluegrass Ridge," which airs in 160 million homes worldwide.

Hailing from Siler City, the textbook definition of a picturesque small southern town, Nu-Blu’s heart and soul is husband-and-wife duo Daniel and Carolyn Routh. Carolyn’s caramel-coated soprano is one of the band’s defining traits, at times a tender lullaby, at times a freight train headed straight for you, but always unwinding a surprising tale. Daniel is the group’s backbone, a multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist who also handles band management. Austin Hefflefinger on banjo, and Justin Harrison on mandolin round out the quartet’s warm, layered, Appalachian sound. Together they deliver upbeat, blazing-fingers pick work just as well as gentle, heartwarming ballads, and they do it all with a natural togetherness that can’t be faked, forged over hundreds of shows on the road.

The band got their start in September of 2003, the end result of several of Carolyn and Daniel’s previous projects. From the beginning, they’ve embodied the American working band, pushing through challenges that would bring most of us to our knees. Just a few months after their formation, their original record label folded, and Carolyn suffered a stroke that left her unable to speak, let alone sing. But barreling past those early trials toughened them, and the muscle and calluses that came with them have led Nu-Blu to ever-new heights, with multiple runs on the radio charts from their 2014 release, All The Way. It featured the chart-topping Rhonda Vincent collaboration “That’s What Makes the Bluegrass Blue,” along with “Jesus and Jones.”

The long road led them to release their previous 2017 album, Vagabonds. “I love that we get to wake up somewhere different every day,” says Daniel. “We meet people from all over the country.” Those people, and their stories, provided the timber for this most recent album, and are most present on songs like the poignant “A Lot More Love,” a simple, sincere invitation to build better bridges across a divided America, and the No. 1 hit “640 Battlefield Drive,” a ballad about love of country, loss, and strength. The album’s standout single, the effervescent, unstoppable “Still Small Voice,” was written by Devin Bell, Tony Lopacinski (Train), and Jimmy Fortune, who says of the band, “Nu-Blu’s unique sound captures the attention of your heart and soul.”

Blending pop sensibilities with classical chops and folk traditions, “Violet Bell puts an avant-garde twist on traditional roots music” (INDY Week). This “elegant marriage of strings and vocals” is “delicate yet powerful,” (Encore Magazine) breathing new life into the traditional Americana sound. Singer-songwriter Lizzy Ross “channels the spirit of Eva Cassidy,” while multi-instrumentalist Omar Ruiz-Lopez’s violin performance is “chocolate,” resulting in an undeniable onstage chemistry that captivates audiences of all ages (Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Show).

Performing as a duo or quintet, Violet Bell are equally at home in a performing arts center or an intimate listening space. They have mesmerized audiences across America with their “fiery live performances” (The Boot), offering “a mashup of classical, soul, bluegrass, jazz, old-time and blues that floats effortlessly” (Greensboro News & Record).

This unique blend of skill, innovation and joy has not gone unnoticed. In their young career, they have been featured at festivals and events across the country, including Americanafest 2018, WoodSongs, Rooster Walk Festival, Grassroots Festival, the Charleston Bluegrass Festival, and many more. When Alice Howe Alice Howe Alice Howe wants to unlock a memory or understand an emotion, she steps  outside. “There’s something about the stillness,” she says. “When I’m sitting with my  guitar and looking out at a forest or the ocean, I have the space to reflect to on  people and places. My muse strikes.”

Vistas and the faces and emotions they summon unfurl with compelling grace on  Visions, Howe’s anticipated debut album. A modern love letter to 60s and 70s folk  and timeless blues, Visions pays homage without succumbing to imitation, and offers  an intimate snapshot of a young artist discovering her own power.

FREEBO

IF NOT NOW WHEN is the culmination of Freebo’s successful transition from world-renown bass player to world-class songwriter, artist, and producer. The CD is a combination of newly written and recorded songs, interspersed with previously recorded songs, all re-sung, re-mixed, and sometimes re-orchestrated. Freebo’s revealing and poetic lyrics are beautifully supported and emotionally enhanced by the varied styles of music he has played with so many of the legends of Rock ‘N’ Roll, artfully producing his songs by focusing on his acoustic guitar and voice with tastefully augmented instrumentation, including his iconic fretless bass. A rare combination of musical sophistication and lyrical wisdom, IF NOT NOW WHEN is an inspiring, motivational, deeply revealing, and often humorous look into a kind, thoughtful, and artistic soul whose musical imprint has been memorably embedded in the last six decades of American music.
