Colorful Collages

Learn about artist Juan Gris and explore how his artistic style changed by examining colorful collages and paintings in the exhibit Cubism in Color: The Still Lifes of Juan Gris. Then set up your own still life in the studio for a collaging adventure!
Adults do not need a ticket but do need to be included in the total group count. When classes are filled, email familyprograms@DMA.org to be placed on the waiting list.
Just for children 0-24 months old and their caregivers. Join us in the galleries for songs and story time, followed by socially distanced playtime!
For the months of April-June, we’ll use the colorful collages by Juan Gris to introduce colors and shapes to your babies, then enjoy socially distanced sensory play in the studio.

Building a Home

This April, kick off your shoes and make yourself at home as we explore the different ways artists depict familiar places, such as their childhood homes or hometowns.
Doors and windows, snuggles and hugs—this is what makes a home! This June, see how contemporary artists envision house and home in the exhibition For a Dreamer of Houses.
Paint, Print & Pattern

Stripes and dots, blues and greens, paint and paper—mix it all together and what do you get? Endless combinations of art! Take a whirlwind tour through the Museum’s galleries and discover how artists use different media and methods to create landscapes, portraits, and abstract paintings. Learn both basic painting and printmaking skills in the studio, and discover your own secret recipe for awesome art.

Rainbow Connection

Let’s go somewhere over the rainbow! Search the galleries for every color of the rainbow, and then investigate the science of rainbows with fun hands-on experiments. Learn all about ROY G BIV; play with prisms; and paint, draw, collage, and sculpt your very own rainbow connection.

Museum of ME
Ages 6-8

What would you do if you ran the Museum for a day? Step into the roles of curator, designer, and featured artist in this camp all about YOU! Explore the Museum galleries to discover art that makes your heart skip a beat. Then experiment in the studio with your favorite colors, materials, and techniques to create artwork that showcases your unique point of view. Make your own mini-museum by building gallery walls, curating an exhibition, crafting frames, painting and sculpting masterpieces, and designing posters. It’s a kid museum takeover!

Crazy About Color

Red, yellow, blue, green—how many colors in art can you see? Explore works of art in the galleries and discover how artists around the world use a rainbow of color to create paintings, textiles, sculptures, and more. Then put your color power to work in the studio as you make a color wheel, explore color theory, imagine inventing a new crayon color, and create art with real pizzazz!

Galaxy Adventures
Ages 9-12

In a galaxy far, far, away, a ragtag group of campers created art that was no match for the Dark Side. If you can’t get enough of Baby Yoda and would jump at the chance to attend Jedi training, this camp is for you! Create a galaxy painting, draw a favorite character, experiment with Jabba the Hutt slime, build your own light saber, and more. The force will be strong with this camp!

Beyond Canvas
Ages 9-12

When is a canvas not just a canvas? When an artist transforms it into images of faraway lands, dashing heroes, larger-than-life animals, and splashes of pure color! Go beyond the canvas in this camp focused on the joys of paint. Sketch from works of art in the Museum’s galleries, and then take on the challenge of new ideas and materials to create your own inspired canvas. Experiment with watercolor and tempera, transform 3-D objects to 2-D pictures, mix a personalized color palette, and more on your path to painting perfection.

Superhero Training Camp
Ages 6-8

Holy summer camp, Batman! If you’re an aspiring superhero or a trusty sidekick, join us for a week of SUPER fun. Meet mythical superheroes in the Museum’s collection—from a Japanese warrior to a Hindu god—and learn about real-life heroes like Mr. Rogers and Georgia O’Keeffe. Make superhero gadgets, design a superhero emblem, create your own cape, and more. Art superpowers, activate!
