I Want You to Know We're Still Here, a poignant memoir by Esther Safran Foer, is her account of growing up in the shadow of the Holocaust, a tragedy that loomed in the backdrop of daily life, felt but never discussed. When Foer learns that her father had a previous wife and daughter, both killed in the Holocaust, she travels to Ukraine, armed with only a black-and-white photo and hand-drawn map, determined to find the shtetl where her father hid to survive during the war.

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
"An extraordinary novel about a courageous young woman, riven by loneliness, by time, and (ultimately) by tsunami. Nao is an inspired narrator and her quest to tell her great grandmother's story, to connect with her past and with the larger world is both aching and true. Ozeki is one of my favorite novelists and here she is at her absolute best-bewitching, intelligent, hilarious, and heartbreaking, often on the same page."

Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami
When a thirty-something portrait painter is abandoned by his wife, he secludes himself in the mountain home of a world famous artist. One day, the young painter hears a noise from the attic, and upon investigation, he discovers a previously unseen painting. By unearthing this hidden work of art, he unintentionally opens a circle of mysterious circumstances; and to close it, he must undertake a perilous journey into a netherworld that only Murakami could conjure. The complex landscape that Murakami assembles in Killing Commendatore is a word portrait of the artist's inner life."-The Times Literary Supplement

Erik Larson, master of narrative nonfiction, delivers The Splendid and the Vile, a compelling portrait of Winston Churchill and London during the Blitz. Larson shows, in cinematic detail, how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless." Drawing on diaries, original archival documents, and once-secret intelligence reports, Larson provides a new lens on London's darkest year, transporting readers to a time of true leadership, when-in the face of unrelenting horror-Churchill's eloquence, courage, and perseverance bound a country, and a family, together. Larson's bestselling books include The Devil in the White City and In the Garden of Beasts.
