Ready for some “Haute Cuisine and High Adventure” in one of the most scenic spots in Southwest Virginia? Breaks Park, straddling Buchanan and Dickenson Counties, Virginia (on the Virginia-Kentucky Border), has been deemed the “Grand Canyon of the South” for its spectacular gorge and beautiful Russell Fork River. Offering accommodations from cabins, cottages, camping, and a lovely lodge, Breaks Park also offers high adventure in hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, fishing, white water rafting, boating, birding, geocaching, and the Canyon Rim zipline. The haute cuisine pinnacle for this Feastival features guest Chef Dale Hawkins of Fish Hawk Acres, known as the Appalachian Food Evangelist in his home state of West Virginia. Chef Hawkins describes his cooking as “New Appalachian Cuisine,” using fresh, local ingredients, mountain culinary traditions, and his adventurous innovations—all of which make for a spirited Feastival meal. Echoing the combination of tradition and innovation, music by the Mike Mitchell Trio from Floyd, Virginia, ranges from old-time to bluegrass to contemporary Americana, and even some jazz.
