Victorian era cemeteries were designed to be so beautiful as to satisfy even the most restless of spirits. Old Tacoma Cemetery opened in 1875 with the air of a charming garden, but a morbid past lies underneath the surface. Raine Rath takes a closer look at the flora and fauna living there, as well as the spooky stories of the long dead...and undead.
Raine Rath is a Tacoma artist, designer, and Pacific Northwest native who has been birding and studying nature for decades. She has a degree in journalism and studio art from the University of Oregon and works as an art director and designer in book publishing. Raine’s experience working with the Washington State Historical Society ignited her love for Tacoma’s history.
