In 1858, incumbent Illinois Senator Stephen A. Douglas faced an unknown lawyer named Abraham Lincoln in a series of debates that electrified the nation. This dramatization by the renowned author Norman Corwin takes you on stage behind the scenes of these iconic debates.
The Rivalry is a Broadway play, has toured the country, and has visited Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., where Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.
Children 12 and under are welcome to attend The Rivalry free of charge but must download a ticket.
The Rivalry is being produced by Actor’s Community Theatre, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization headquartered in nearby Jasper, Indiana. It is their fourth consecutive season producing a Lincoln-based performance at the Lincoln Amphitheatre, having most recently produced the world premier musical Here I Grew Up in 2019.
