Calling all Missoula County High School students who like cool words, and any adults who want to come support and cheer for them! This totally free All Schools Poetry Slam & Open Mic will feature students performing their own original work, hosted by Sentinel High School Kopee Staff.
If you’re a student who would like to participate, please enter by emailing your name, grade, and school to sentinelkopee@gmail.com by 5 PM on Monday, February 1. To participate in the open mic portion of the event, just bring the piece of writing you want to share and sign-in at the door. We may need to have a time limit depending on the number of readers. First, Second, and Third Place Slammers will receive a prize! *Participants and audience members should expect some mature topics and language.
Rules –
- The Golden Rule of Poetry Slam: The points are not the point. The point is poetry!
- Each solo poem must be of the poet's own creation.
- Each group poem must feature the primary author/s of the poem.
- Memorization is not required or necessary (but you sure can).
- Each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem. Shorter poems are fine at this slam.
Your poem or presented work may NOT include sexist, racist, homophobic, or transphobic comments. Just use your common sense and don’t be a jerk, and leave your hate at the gate. However – anger, upset, and frustration are totally legit emotions to express, just be creative in how you go about it.
Masks are required for attendees for all Show Room events at this time. Masks may be removed for beverage consumption, but we ask that they please be worn at any time when not actively drinking.
