7 Deadly Sins is proud to announce the new solo show from PICA TBA festival veteran, local host of the Moth, and emcee and auctioneer about town, Andrew Dickson.
Kids These Days is part storytelling, part comedic monologue, and part TED Talk about how much and fast the world has changed, how awful and amazing it is to be a parent, and the generational politics of baby boomers, generation X and Y, millennials, and whatever kids younger who were born a few years ago are going to be called.
Kids These Days will feel a bit like a full-length comedy stand-up special, weaving together a dozen or so stories, lists, and rants that all relate to the above themes of change, technology, kids, parenthood, childhood and adulthood. Oh, and there will be lots of PowerPoint!
For example, he’ll perform his ABC book, written for the world kids are going to inherit. (A is for Apple. They make the bright, colorful devices we pay attention to instead of you.) And he’ll present his list of things he didn’t know about until he was an adult that his kids experienced by the time they were 5 (from pho, dim sum, sushi, to a Black president).
This one-night premiere will be a work in progress, with the feel of a polished final show, so willing audience members will be invited to share their reaction afterwards to help shape the show’s evolution for future runs and touring.
7 Deadly Sins produces several regular storytelling shows including 7DS: Pants On Fire! at McMenamins White Eagle, 7DS: ROUGH DRAFT, and 7 Deadly Sins: MainStage. This is their first solo artist show.
Andrew Dickson is a writer, emcee, auctioneer, and performer here in Portland. Long-time PICA fans might remember him from his many shows that have premiered at the TBA festival, including AC Dickson: eBay PowerSeller, Sell Out, and Life Coach. He hosts monthly storytelling shows for The Moth, performed as part of The New Shit Show, and frequently takes the stage as an emcee and auctioneer for non-profits, arts organizations, and schools.
